Book excerpt: Easton's Bible Dictionary is a classic book of definitions which serves to explain and clarify the meaning of the names, places, and words found in the Bible. Many Christians and scholars who read the Bible often remain unawares of the meanings or significance of the Holy Book's vocabulary. Such words are often derived from Ancient Hebrew or other old scripts, which makes it even more difficult for readers who only speak English to understand. Location names, in the context of ancient geography, are likewise hard to scrutinize - yet Easton's Dictionary not only explains what these places are, but their size and overall impact across the entire Bible. First published in 1893, this dictionary uses the authoritative King James Bible as its source. As well as containing definitions and accounts of the many terms found throughout the Old and New Testaments, Easton's Bible Dictionary points out the significance of certain things and exactly where mentions of such phenomena appear in the Bible. The presence and significance of iron, for example, is noted in the Books of Genesis, Chronicles, Ezekiel, Deuteronomy, Isaiah, Job, Joshua, Kings and in the Psalms. Individuals in the Bible are also given biographical definitions. Through Easton's referencing of the names, we can discover the exact Bible passages where such figures are mentioned. Likewise we hear of terms relevant to the life of the ancient peoples; the term 'Levy' for instance is shown to equate to a form of involuntary recruitment which kings ordered. Words in frequent use today, such as 'Schism', are also shown to originate from the Bible. Other words we use today - such as 'Teeth', are shown to have been informal terms: 'cleanness of teeth' in Amos 4:6 denotes an outbreak of famine, for example. Many of the parables and tales of the Bible are retold in abbreviated form in Easton's Bible Dictionary. These retold anecdotes reference other relevant passages, further evidencing how the various portions of the Bible are interconnected and related to one another. Such a style also gives this unconventional dictionary a flowing quality, making it easier for the reader to enjoy large tracts of this text without pause. The ancient world of the Biblical canon is given life and color by Easton's descriptions. Primarily however, Easton's masterwork is designed for reference. Yet it not only defines the individual entries, but places these entries in their proper context throughout both the Old and New Testaments. Owing to this wealth of information, the reader may perceive that Easton's Dictionary is not merely a book of definitions, but an authoritative and significant work of classic Christian literature.

It has taken on meanings that are completely at odds with what the Bible says and has become a buzzword for both social justice and redemption. In Kingdom Conspiracy, McKnight offers a sizzling biblical corrective and a fiercely radical vision for the role of the local church in the kingdom of God. Now in paper. Download or read book God s Everlasting Kingdom written by Given O. Blakely and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2008-07-16 with total page 467 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: DESCRIPTION An in-depth exposition of the person of GOD as viewed through the revelation of His eternal purpose in the Holy Scriptures. SUMMARY OF THE BOOK GOD's Everlasting Kingdom sets the jewel of redemption with its facets of faith, the Word of God, the Savior, the church, and the knowledge of GOD in the context of GOD's person, will, and eternal purpose. The whole of Truth is put into focus and made more understandable. Men of faith are brought into a fellowship of reason with their Maker, which is essential, to our pilgrimage in this world and obtaining our inheritance in the world to come. The believer, as with all things, is of, by, and to GOD. This is not a book primarily about man and how GOD can be given participation in our lives to make things better for us now. Rather, it is about GOD, who is ruling and reigning according to the councils of His own will, and how we can be adopted into that glorious and eternal purpose to everlasting life and joy. THE CENTRAL TOPIC OF THE BOOK Who GOD is, what He is doing, and how man relates to it. WHAT QUALIFIED BROTHER BLAKELY TO WRITE THIS BOOK? Faith. Extensive knowledge of the scriptures. Devotion to and exhaustive study in the Word of God for more than fifty-five years. Neither reliance upon nor ignorance of the works of other men of GOD (long deceased and living). WHAT IS UNIQUE ABOUT THE BOOK? Most books on the topic of Scripture deal with a particular aspect of it, or is confined to specific accounts, personalities, or times. This work looks upon the whole of GOD's revelation in reference to Him from the foundation of the world, through the present, into the new heavens and new earth. It explains the realities governing this present world, and shows the reasonableness of making things which are temporal secondary to things eternal. It validates the believer in his assurance of faith and confidence in God. FIVE SINGLE WORDS DESCRIBING THIS BOOK Fresh, non-sectarian, discerning, intelligent, foundational. WHY SHOULD YOU OBTAIN THIS BOOK? 1. No other book like it (in content and perspective) of which I am aware. 2. It is written to communicate profound truths in an understandable manner. THE PRIORITIES OF THE BOOK 1. God Himself. 2. The eternal purpose of God. 3. The relationship of Jesus Christ to that purpose. 4. The relationship of the Word of God to that purpose. 5. The relationship of man to that purpose. WHO WILL PROFIT FROM THIS BOOK? Theologians, Preachers, Teachers, believers, anyone with a genuine interest in the Holy Bible. Click here to go to brother Blakely's website THE OBJECTIVE OF THIS BOOK The objective that dictated both the subject and the content of this volume is the glory of God. His kingdom, like Himself, is great and thus is apt to be perceived less clearly than is possible. Because the kingdom of God involves His deliberate dealings with men, it is of particular importance to them. To neglect the kingdom is to neglect God Himself while to "seek fi rst the kingdom of God" is to seek Him primarily. We cannot think properly about God in separation from His kingdom. It is related to His objectives, His will, and His person. The law of God, the grace of God, the salvation of God all are resident in, and associated with, the kingdom of God. Any concept of God or His kingdom that introduces contradictory thoughts or that mystifi es God's person and work contributes to man's basic spiritual ignorance. Such concepts obscure deity and thus constitute alienating influences. My purpose is to elaborate upon that most worthy objective of the pure religion and sound doctrine: to glorify God and to advantage men by clarifying the nature of God's kingdom and establishing the priority of an intelligently revealed religion as evidenced in the holy scriptures. In earlier days in the U

Book The Kingdom of God and the Glory of the Cross

Download or read book The Kingdom of God and the Glory of the Cross written by Patrick Schreiner and published by Crossway. This book was released on 2018-03-15 with total page 166 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “The kingdom of heaven is like a grain of mustard seed that a man took and sowed in his field. It is the smallest of all seeds, but when it has grown it is larger than all the garden plants and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and make nests in its branches.” —Matthew 13:31–32 When Jesus began his ministry, he announced that the kingdom of God was at hand. But many modern-day Christians don’t really understand what the kingdom of God is or how it relates to the message of the gospel. Defining kingdom as the King’s power over the King’s people in the King’s place, Patrick Schreiner investigates the key events, prophecies, and passages of Scripture that highlight the important theme of kingdom across the storyline of the Bible—helping readers see how the mission of Jesus and the coming of the kingdom fit together. Part of the Short Studies in Biblical Theology series.

Download or read book God s Kingdom For Today written by Peter Toon and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2018-02-16 with total page 128 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What is the kingdom of God? When will it (or did it) come? What does it have to do with the Old Testament Israel? With the Christian Church? With present-day society? These and many other questions are brilliantly addressed in God's Kingdom for Today. As in his other books, Peter Toon uses an extensive knowledge of the Scriptures to construct a thoroughly biblical approach, which is then applied to daily life. The result is a truly significant study. Among the topics discussed are the kingdom of God in the Old Testament, with special emphasis on God as King of Israel, and Jesus' teaching on the subject, pointing out that He not only taught about the kingdom, He personified it. Toon also focuses upon the practical implications of the kingdom, especially as it bears upon the related topics of the church, personal ethics, and social responsibility. A proper understanding of God's kingdom is central to the Christian faith. God's Kingdom for Today brings much-needed clarity to this often misunderstood subject.

Download or read book THE LAWS OF GOD S KINGDOM written by GODSWORD GODSWILL ONU and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2015-03-22 with total page 331 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When we talk of the Laws of God's Kingdom, we are speaking of Rules which people who are in the Kingdom of God must obey or follow. The Rules instruct and command us on how things must be done, or the things that are allowed in it. The Laws of God's Kingdom also refer to how things happen in the Kingdom of God. In other words, the Laws of God's Kingdom describe the outcomes or resultant effects of doing this and that, or not doing this and that. Some things may happen in your life, which you did not expect or which you may not explain; but it may just be that an existing Law in the Kingdom of God has worked. God has magnified and exalted His Word above all His Name. Therefore, be careful not to go against the Laws of the Kingdom of God.

This book was released on 2016-12-21 with total page 60 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Why are people the way they are? Why are some cultures and nations progressive, while others seem to be perpetually mired in backwardness and poverty? What were the original foundations upon which Western culture thrived? What are the current effects of secularism on the West and the rest of the world? What would it be like if Christians not only prayed for God's Kingdom to come but heeded Jesus' teaching to live out the truths of His Kingdom on earth? Worldview and the Kingdom of God is an easy to read book for the ordinary man on the street that challenges the worldview of Christians. Based on the original good news of the Kingdom that Jesus and His disciples preached; not the popular gospel of salvation to go to heaven that most Christians preach, it calls for a paradigm shift from a "salvation from this world" worldview to a "God's Kingdom on earth" worldview. Beginning with the premise that the world is ruled by ideas, and that ideas have consequences, the message invites the reader to examine his worldview and reflect on what has been influencing and shaping it. The concept of worldview is explained in simple terms and the reader is invited to reflect on the worldviews of animism and secularism and its consequences, and examine how much of his worldview is still rooted in animism and/or influenced by secularism. God's Kingdom is then introduced and contrasted against Satan's kingdom and man's kingdom. In the light of the Biblical teaching of the three kingdoms, the call is for Christians to discard their "salvation from this world" worldview if they are to get beyond themselves and "Church as we know it", to get on with God's agenda for His Kingdom to come and His will to be done on earth as it is done in heaven.

Book The Coming of the Son of Man

Download or read book The Coming of the Son of Man written by Andrew Perriman and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2012-08-21 with total page 282 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Tracing the powerful motif of the coming of the Son of man from Daniel through to Revelation, Andrew Perriman provides thought-provoking ideas about eschatological narrative. What was it like to hear the biblical proclamation of this coming for the first time in a cultural, political, and religious context very different from our own? How did early Christians think about the imminence of the promised day of the Lord? What difference did this message make to how they thought, lived, and spread the gospel message? This book engages the minds of jaded twenty-first-century postmoderns who have heard it all before. By seeing the fulfilment of much of New Testament apocalyptic in events of the first centuries, Perriman proposes that in some important sense we have moved beyond eschatology--into an age of renewed community and mission that is creational in its scope.ÊThe Coming of the Son of ManÊis important reading for those who want to engage in the debate concerning what church is--and will be.
