Book excerpt: Nobel Laureate Desmond Tutu has long been admired throughout the world for the heroism and grace he exhibited while encouraging countless South Africans in their struggle for human rights. In God Has a Dream, his most soul-searching book, he shares the spiritual message that guided him through those troubled times. Drawing on personal and historical examples, Archbishop Tutu reaches out to readers of all religious backgrounds, showing how individual and global suffering can be transformed into joy and redemption. With his characteristic humor, Tutu offers an extremely personal and liberating message. He helps us to “see with the eyes of the heart” and to cultivate the qualities of love, forgiveness, humility, generosity, and courage that we need to change ourselves and our world. Echoing the words of Martin Luther King, Jr., he writes, “God says to you, ‘I have a dream. Please help me to realize it. It is a dream of a world whose ugliness and squalor and poverty, its war and hostility, its greed and harsh competitiveness, its alienation and disharmony are changed into their glorious counterparts. When there will be more laughter, joy, and peace, where there will be justice and goodness and compassion and love and caring and sharing. I have a dream that my children will know that they are members of one family, the human family, God’s family, my family.’” Addressing the timeless and universal concerns all people share, God Has a Dream envisions a world transformed through hope and compassion, humility and kindness, understanding and forgiveness.

Download or read book God s Rainbow Promise written by Lauri Kerr and published by Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2019-04-24 with total page 33 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: God's Rainbow Promise is a book that looks at the issue of human sexuality through the lens of the three-legged stool that the Anglican Church has used for centuries. The legs of the stool are represented by the areas of scripture, tradition, and reason. This book is meant to provide a start for a group to begin a conversation with each other. It emphasizes that God made the promise of the Rainbow to all Noah's descendants. This is one of the reasons that the symbol of the rainbow became a symbol for the homosexual community to recognize safe places. Please make the place you meet to discuss this book with others a safe place for all. My prayer for those who read God's Rainbow Promise is that they will come away with an appreciation for the opinion of the other, and that we are all God's children, and that there is strength in diversity. Above all, I pray that we live into the summation of God's law found in Matthew chapter 22, by loving God with all of our heart, with all of our mind, and all of our soul, and loving our neighbor as ourselves. The Rev. Lauri Kerr grew up on a dairy farm in North Central Pennsylvania. Received a BA in Psychology from Mansfield University and a Master's in Organizational Leadership from Mansfield University. Attended and graduated from Virginia Theological Seminary, she was ordained as an Episcopal Priest on December 12, 2001. She severed several small parishes during her 17 years of ordained ministry. She currently serves the three parishes of GLEAM (Greater Lycoming Episcopal Area Ministry). Rev. Kerr has been with her wife Mary since 2002. She enjoys golf and bowling. Her main hobbies are collecting Elvis memorabilia and being a movie buff. Rev. Kerr has traveled to Israel and Myanmar. These experiences of overseas travel and life experience of having Turner syndrome and being a lesbian have led her to be a fierce advocate for inclusivity within the Episcopal Church.

Book The Truth About God s Rainbow

Download or read book The Truth About God s Rainbow written by Lisa Soland and published by . This book was released on 2021-09 with total page 64 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Truth About God's Rainbow tells the story of Noah and the rainbow in a new, refreshing way, using images of religious artwork from over the ages to help recount the events. I vividly remember learning about the importance of the rainbow as a child in Vacation Bible School. Each time it rained, I would run outside in search of the sun so I could witness, once more, God's miracle displayed in the sky. The story of the rainbow is not just an ancient story restricted to the pages of God's Word. The presence of the rainbow is an ongoing, living example of God's faithfulness and grace toward His people whom He loves. This is the very reason we need tell this story, over and over again, especially to our children. All the promises of God are real. And while the events told in this book occurred over 4,000 years ago, the promises of God to His people stand firm today.
