Download or read book 1 Timothy Volume 1 written by Paul S. Jeon and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2017-12-22 with total page 249 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 1 Timothy is one of the more controversial documents in the New Testament. For years, critical scholars have rejected Pauline authorship, highlighted the apparent misogynistic quality of the text, and argued against any coherence in the letter. Jeon takes a fresh look at the letter, incorporating many recent advancements in NT scholarship. In detail he demonstrates the macro- and micro- chiastic arrangement of the entire letter and explains how the presumed first-century audience would have heard and responded to an oral performance of the letter. In doing so, Jeon offers a fresh challenge to more popular ways of (mis)understanding the letter and points a way forward for appropriating the letter both in academia and in the church.
Download or read book The House That God Built written by Zebedee King and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2016-02-27 with total page 384 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: By looking at the nightly news and simply observing for themselves the denigration of homes and communities across our country, many would agree that family foundations are cracking and shifting out of place. This has resulted in untold devastation within the home and our other social systems; therefore, many households and lives have simply given way and collapsed under the weight of a host of societal pressures. Many believe that a generation of social experimentation along with our cultures fixation at redefining virtually every foundational institution (especially the first human institutionmarriage) are responsible for placing the family and society on very shaky ground indeed, leaving a very dubious moral and economic legacy for successive generations. When cracks begin to appear upon the walls of a house, it may indicate a shifting or damaged foundation, which may indicate poor foundation work. As a result, builders typically reexamine the blueprintsthe masterplansto determine the manner and materials with which the house and foundations built in order to pinpoint and repair a weak or damaged foundation. It is the authors conviction that in many households within society, weak or faulty spiritual and moral foundations have been laid, resulting in the cultural cataclysm we witness throughout our land. In his book, The House that God Built: Gods Master Plan for Marriage and His Blueprint for Blessing, Book One of his Strong Foundation for Strong Families series, the author discusses the need for a RE-Vision, of marriage and the familybut not by redefining, replacing or removing these honorable foundations and pillars which have supported societies from the beginning of time. Rather, by employing the word RE-Vision, he calls for a refocusa fresh new look at Gods original design for the marriage and family. This plan is found in Gods Holy Word, specially, the first two chapters of the Book of Genesis because this, he feels, is where marriage, family and social systems began. Therefore, the book is a thorough exposition of the first chapters of Genesis which explore the motivations and the methods through which God Himself built His house (the heavens and the earth). This study provides keen spiritual and practical insights as to how we can build our homes according to Gods plans so as to receive His best blessings upon our homes and upon our communities.
Download or read book Nietzsche and the Gods written by Weaver Santaniello and published by State University of New York Press. This book was released on 2001-10-05 with total page 260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "I have slain all gods—for the sake of morality!" — Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche Although often regarded as an atheist who did not take religion seriously, Nietzsche in fact thought deeply about the gods and how they functioned in the human psyche. The son of a Lutheran pastor who dropped theology in college after only one semester, Nietzsche was a profound religious thinker who devoted much of his writing to reevaluating the concept of god that prevailed in nineteenth-century Germany. As this volume demonstrates, Nietzsche sharply discerned between the positive and negative aspects of various gods, including the Christian God, the Jewish God (Yahweh), the Greek gods (especially Apollo and Dionysus), and the Buddha. The essays further touch upon Nietzsche's relationship to prominent religious thinkers of his time, as well as his influence on later religious thinkers, such as Martin Buber and Paul Tillich. Wide-ranging and diverse, Nietzsche and the Gods will be indispensable to our continuing understanding of Nietzsche's thought and to the broader study of philosophy and religion.
Download or read book The Ministry Vol 06 No 01 written by Various Authors and published by Living Stream Ministry. This book was released on 2002-01-01 with total page 201 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a special combined issue (January/February) of The Ministry. It contains a complete record of the messages given in Anaheim, California, during the 2001 Winter Training on the Crystallization-study of Ephesians. These messages are being published immediately following the training in order that they might benefit the saints participating in the many video trainings held throughout the earth. Because of the specific nature of this issue, the usual section of reports concerning the Lord's move throughout the earth has been omitted. The burden for the twelve messages given during the 2001 Winter Training on the Crystallization-study of Ephesians may be summarized by four statements: 1) the dispensing of Christ is for the gradual building up of His Body and the transmitting of Christ is for the sudden raising up of God's churches; 2) God's eternal intention is to head up all things in Christ, the universal Head, through the church, which is His Body; 3) the oneness of the Spirit must be kept diligently by all the believers in Christ with the transformed human virtues strengthened and enriched by and with the divine attributes; and 4) as the unlimited, immeasurable Christ makes His home in our hearts, we are filled unto all the fullness of God—the ultimate, corporate expression of the Triune God.

Download or read book Gods Behaving Badly written by Marie Phillips and published by Little, Brown. This book was released on 2007-12-10 with total page 225 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this “witty and entertaining” twist on Greek mythology (James Urquhart), the once all-powerful gods find themselves scraping by in a run-down London townhouse as they learn how to be human—and try not to destroy the world in the process. Being a Greek god is not all it once was. Yes, the twelve gods of Olympus are alive and well in the twenty-first century, but they are crammed together in a London townhouse—and none too happy about it. And they've had to get day jobs: Artemis as a dog-walker, Apollo as a TV psychic, Aphrodite as a phone sex operator, Dionysus as a DJ. Even more disturbingly, their powers are waning, and even turning mortals into trees—a favorite pastime of Apollo's—is sapping their vital reserves of strength. Soon, what begins as a minor squabble between Aphrodite and Apollo escalates into an epic battle of wills. Two perplexed humans, Alice and Neil, who are caught in the crossfire, must fear not only for their own lives, but for the survival of humankind. Nothing less than a true act of heroism is needed—but can these two decidedly ordinary people replicate the feats of the mythical heroes and save the world?

Download or read book Rules of a Godly Life written by and published by . This book was released on 2016-10-25 with total page 42 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Rules of a Godly Life" is a popular Pietist devotional source for the Amish. Comprised of 47 proverbs, this text was originally written in the early 18th century by a non-Amish author. The proverbs are intended to guide the Amish on how to center their daily life on God through their everyday thoughts, words, and deeds. This includes what one's mind should focus on when waking up and going to sleep, and how to conduct yourself when interacting with others during the day, all in order to maintain God's focus in all that you do and live in accordance to the Bible.Despite its title, "Rules of a Godly Life" does not actually detail Amish rules, which are known as the Ordnung. The Ordnung vary from community to community, district to district, by each individual group of Amish, and they specify prohibitions and restrictions on modern technology, job options for Amish men and guidelines for everyday living such as dress codes and how to interact with non-Amish people. When an Amish person is baptized, they are promising to uphold these rules of their church and to never break from them. The "Rules of a Godly Life," on the other hand, are considered more of an annex to the Bible -- an inspirational book to help guide the way to a more fulfilling life.
