Book excerpt: When it comes to having a desire to see things change, it is obvious that most Christians are ready for it! The problem is that churches have tried every program available, and yet they still feel that there is something missing from their ministry. This book takes a fresh look at ministry and challenges us to consider that we may have actually left God out of the ministry equation, by not realizing how desperately we need for God's Spirit to set us on "fire!" Take a journey through the Bible and discover for yourself, how God's fire is present when God is on the move! Discover how God's fire reveals his character as well as our calling to be transformed into the image of Christ! You will also discover how being one of God's Fire Starters can be one of the most exciting adventures of anyone's life! Donald A. Broadwater was born in Roanoke, Virginia and spent most of his early life growing up around the Blue Ridge Mountains. He graduated from Covenant College and Westminster Theological Seminary, and for the past three decades, Don and his family have been on an adventure that has taken them from America to Australia. He is married to Gloria and has two grown children from their 37-year marriage. God has unfolded a unique ministry of discipleship that has sought to encourage people to take their next step on a Journey in Jesus. This ministry is needed because our journeys are as unique as God who is fashioning them for us. He has also spoken for church camps and seminars, which have included the international conference, "Fire on the Mountain," on Mt. Tambourine in Queensland, Australia. Contact him at www.journeyinjesus.com for additional information or for scheduling seminars for your ministry.

Book excerpt: There are times in life where Christians may experience dullness or lack of vigor when it comes to fully worshipping God in Spirit and in Truth. I call these moments "lulls". Sometimes we feel that God has forgotten about us or is mad at us. Sometimes we feel like we're not worthy to be part of God's family. Sometimes we may not feel like going to church or bible study. Sometimes we may not feel like praising or worshipping God. Sometimes we may not feel like praying. Sometimes we don't feel like serving God or people. Sometimes we have these "lulls" where we are lethargic, dull, uninspired, weak, weary or tired and we end up living a life reflective of how we feel and not the life that God intends for us to have. During these "lulls" we need an energy drink; an energy boost. We need a kick or a lift-me-up to get us back to where we were or to even go higher. The energy drink we need is not of this world; we need to drink the water from the well of living water. We need to fan the flame by stirring up the gifts that already dwell inside of us. One way to get that energy boost is by saying what we call "Fire Starters". Fire Starters help to reignite you so that you may have passion and zeal for the Lord and the motivation to do the things that are pleasing in His sight. Fire Starters help to fan the flame so if your light is only burning dimly then the Fire Starters will help your light to burn bigger and brighter so you arise to your position as a child of the Most High God.

Book excerpt: Though daily Mass is held most frequently, resources for daily homilies can be in short supply. In this book, Bishop Sklba offers a rich collection of ideas — fire starters — for preparing brief, spiritually nourishing homilies for daily Eucharist. Like building a campfire, where one ignites the logs with more easily flammable paper, these fire starters" are intended to provide the spark for weekday homilies. God's Spirit provides the flame. Each day, the biblical citations and summary phrases for the reading and the gospel plus the refrain from the psalm are provided. After each citation, Bishop Sklba offers a series of meaningful insights from his expertise as a Scripture scholar, prayerful study of Scripture, and many years of preaching and pastoral experience. These brief entries provide knowledge and inspiration that will stimulate personal prayer and spark homily possibilities for the preacher every day. Fire Starters will support anyone privileged to be called to leadership at weekday celebrations of the Eucharist to prepare for the important ministry of preaching. Bishop Richard J. Sklba served as auxiliary bishop of Milwaukee for over thirty years. He is a well-known biblical scholar, completing the licentiate in Sacred Scripture from the Pontifical Biblical Institute in Rome. He is a member and former president of the Catholic Biblical Association of America. He has served on many committees of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, chairing its subcommittee on the Review of Scripture Translations from 1991 to 2001. In 1988, he received the Catholic Theological Society of America's John Courtney Murray Award for achievement in theology. "

Book excerpt: Called: A Firebrand is not about the author, it's about you and God's call on your life. Are you walking by faith or does it look more like you're a wounded soldier, army crawling by faith on most days? Have the trials of life been a more frequent companion than victory? If you answered yes to either of these questions, you are not alone. Lauren Stoenescu has been there and lived to tell about it. She wants you to know, this all-out breaking is just a precursor to finding your destiny. A destiny that was dreamed up in the heart of God. A destiny uniquely fitted for you by the One who perfectly created you. The firebrand of God endures fiery trials. At just the right time, God pulls you from the fire, scorched and still slightly aflame, perfect for starting fires in and under His Church. Romans 8:28-31 from the Amplified Version says it this way, "And we know [with great confidence] that God [who is deeply concerned about us] causes all things to work together [as a plan] for good for those who love God, to those who are called according to His plan and purpose ... And those whom He predestined, He also called; and those whom He called, He also justified [declared free of the guilt of sin]; and those whom He justified, He also glorified [raising them to a heavenly dignity]. What then shall we say to all these things? If God is for us, who can be [successful] against us?" God's firebrands know deep within themselves, and maybe always have, that they have a significant call on their life. You want nothing more than to answer that call with a resounding, YES! And God wants that for you too. That's why He has been so focused on conforming you into the image of His Son. So, you can be trusted to love those He loves, into His Kingdom.

Now captives, Colton, Daphne, and the others have a stark choice: join the Prometheus’s cause or fight back in any small way they can and face the consequences. But Zavier, leader of the terrorists, has a bigger plan—to bring back the lost god of time. As new threats emerge, loyalties must shift. No matter where the Prometheus goes—Prague, Austria, India—nowhere is safe, and every second ticks closer toward the eleventh hour. Walking the line between villainy and heroism, each will have to choose what's most important: saving those you love at the expense of the many, or making impossible sacrifices for the sake of a better world.
