Download or read book We All Wrote on the Same Outhouse Walls written by Larry M. Farrar and published by Trafford Publishing. This book was released on 2003 with total page 329 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We All Wrote on the Same Outhouse Walls is a warm-hearted very humorous book about the many joys and few sorrows of growing up during the 40s and 50s in a small town exiled in the Appalachian foothills. The book is about the author's small hometown which The Wall Street Journal described as "Intact but decaying: pure 19th Century." The Journal suggested that the town could be "On the scale of Williamsburg," but the town folks "Don't want to be preserved, saved or otherwise bothered by outsiders, no matter how good their intentions." This priceless narrative tells about first grade in a one-room schoolhouse called Possum Hollow, a splendid misspent youth, and a homespun education which was acquired while working in a country story and hanging out in a poolroom. The hilarious description of an endangered time and place is about colorful and unforgettable characters. It tells memorable stories and folklore which began with "I mind the time," and ended somewhat in borderline disbelief, but always in laughter. It's about nicknames, front porches, and coon dog field trials after church. And it's' about the down-home wit, sayings and opinions that made the personalities and their town so engaging. The book also tells what the old timers, the orthopedic set, would tell you, whether asked or not, about the 60s movement, the break-up of the traditional family, the present day media, and the theory of victimization. Their opinions, today, would be unfashionable to some, but refreshingly politically inappropriate to others. Not that the author's small hometown was perfect or blameless. The good old fashioned behavior by some of getting drunk on Saturday night and going to church on Sunday was alive and well. The town has its assortment of saints and sinners. But when it came to values and time-honored beliefs which now seem out-dated, back then small towns had them. maybe that's what one of John Steinbeck's characters in Mice and Men pointed out when the character commented, "There's nothing wrong anymore." We All Wrote on the Same Outhouse Walls is a must read for all of you who will enjoy a nostalgic visit back to your youth or your small hometown. It will bring back happy memories of a better time and make you glad that you were there. The book is also a must read for young readers who wonder what it was really like, and if they really were "the good old days." Most of all the book is for those of you who just want a good laugh.

Book excerpt: Sometimes comical or bizarre, and at other times pathetic and tragic, this cautionary story is for persons wanting and needing to find an ally as they struggle with breaking away from a destructive religious environment. Buoyant and hopeful overtones often battle with discordant angry and bitter undertones as this book consistently lays bare the detrimental dark core at the heart of one womans lengthy Christian experience. Since far too many other persons have fallen into similarly laid traps by con-artist leaders of the institutional church, this book provides possible psychological rescue tools.

Book excerpt: The book of Job is an epic poetic work of the highest order, unmatched in the world’s literature for its depth of feeling and emotion, sensitivity toward human suffering, magnificence of language, and narrative and poetic artistry. At the same time, it is one of the most perplexing books in the Bible. Dr. Jerry Gladson, a seasoned minister and professor of religion, not only presents a comprehensive interpretation of the biblical text, but also confronts religion’s greatest dilemma: Why do innocent people suffer? While highlighting the problem of evil as presented in the classic book of Job, he thoroughly explains each passage and offers a thorough introduction to Job and its ancient Near Eastern context that demonstrates the astounding relevance of Job for contemporary readers. Through it all, Dr. Gladson’s commentary proves that even in today’s modern world, Job still speaks to the needs of the suffering. Touched by the Hand of God shares an enlightening, spiritual study of Job—one of the Bible’s great books of wisdom.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Humanity is defined by emotional and mental control. Freedom through our emotional health and thoughts help us to be our own selves and who God meant us to be. But mental and emotional bondage are still prevalent in American society and culture today. Seeking to free people from this bondage, Dreams, Visions, and Destiny offers a deep exploration of dreams and their guidance from God and his Holy Spirit. Dreams help shape our destinies and prepare our listening ears for the blessing of God to manifest his promises. God gives dreams and visions to men, women, boys, and girls. He speaks to both believers of his Gospel and nonbelievers through dreams, visions, supernatural activities, and prophesies. This concept is from Christian beliefs and the notion that God is universal. Dreams help us understand who we are in relation to other humans individually, locally, and globally. They provide an understanding of how we fit into society. Our belief in God expands our place in society and is based on a spiritual point of view. Sharing uplifting guidance, this study reveals how God still speaks to us today, in the twenty-first, century through dreams and visions.
Download or read book The Perfect Religion A Beacon to the True Kingdom of God written by Phillip Cimei and published by Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2019-01-23 with total page 174 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Is there such a thing as a perfect religion? If so, then why are there over 34,000 branches of the Christian faith? If there is one true body of believers, why do some feel like the following: - I need to wander around from church to church because I'm not satisfied - I'm afraid if I make a mistake I'm hell bound - I'm stuck in a lukewarm church with members who are satisfied with a mediocre religious life - I'm tired of that one doctrinal point that defines my church and excludes other Christians - I'm not sure if what the preacher is teaching is correct, but I'm afraid to buck the system The author, having embraced all of these distressing feelings, takes the reader on an unprecedented treasure hunt to find that illusive perfect religion. And after fifty years of digging, he might have hit the mother lode""the Sermon on the Mount. Will it satisfy those still searching for the truth? Will it reaffirm the faith of those who have found the treasure? Will this truth set those shackled to a confused state free? The author addresses the problem head on. He weaves through the maze of controversy, theological mumbo jumbo, and religious opinions to give answers to why there is so much division in the church, and why so many wandering souls are searching, if not in their heart, from church to church. He uses captivating illustrations""a girl with a moose, a boy ravaged with a flesh-eating disease, and a vulture eyeballing a starving child""to bring to life Christ's quest to show those wandering souls the way. Are you brave enough to take the journey? "Will I truly find God?" you ask. "I love those who love Me and those who seek Me diligently will find Me" (Prov. 8:17).

Download or read book With God S Blessing written by Irving R. Smith Sr. and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2015-02-13 with total page 318 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Smith Family's tradition on Sundays was to sit around the dining room table after dinner and hear Daddy and Momma talk about old times. You see, they were African Americans born in Staunton, VA in 1916 and 1918 during difficult times. But they expected that God would make a way! They had so many stories. Sometimes we had a good laugh, many times we would cry and yet other times it was almost unbelievable what they went through in an unfair and unjust society. We were mesmerized and amazed how our parents maneuvered and thrived the 20th Century. We were in awe of how they maintained their dignity and achieved so much in the face of so many obstacles and challenges. But "With God's Blessing" (this is the name they gave to the collection of stories that made up their life experiences), the impossible happened over and over. These life lessons we want our children's children to read and learn. We are also sure that each reader can appreciate and learn something from their life stories. Though there are many celebrated books and articles about the lifestyle of African Americans during the 20th Century, the story of Irving and Jane Smith is interesting and compelling. They endured persecution, betrayal and sometimes imprisonment - which is why they were said to have been ‘active in their own ruin’. It is largely based on the life of the rector of Brightling in East Sussex who, after his ejection, remained in the parish, caring for the people after plague had spread from London and his successor had fled. It shows how the life and loves of a whole family were affected by the nationwide upheaval.
