Book Stability in Viscoelasticity

Download or read book Stability in Viscoelasticity written by A.D. Drozdov and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 623 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The subject of stability problems for viscoelastic solids and elements of structures, with which this book is concerned, has been the focus of attention in the past three decades. This has been due to the wide inculcation of viscoelastic materials, especially polymers and plastics, in industry. Up-to-date studies in viscoelasticity are published partially in purely mathematical journals, partially in merely applied ones, and as a consequence, they remain unknown to many interested specialists. Stability in Viscoelasticity fills the gap between engineers and mathematicians and converges theoretical and applied directions of investigations. All chapters contain extensive bibliographies of both purely mathematical and engineering works on stability problems. The bibliography includes a number of works in Russian which are practically inaccessible to the Western reader.

Book Mathematical Problems in Linear Viscoelasticity

Download or read book Mathematical Problems in Linear Viscoelasticity written by Mauro Fabrizio and published by SIAM. This book was released on 1992-01-01 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Describes general mathematical modeling of viscoelastic materials as systems with fading memory. Discusses the interrelation between topics such as existence, uniqueness, and stability of initial boundary value problems, variational and extremum principles, and wave propagation. Demonstrates the deep connection between the properties of the solution to initial boundary value problems and the requirements of the general physical principles. Discusses special techniques and new methods, including Fourier and Laplace transforms, extremum principles via weight functions, and singular surfaces and discontinuity waves.

Book Initial Value Problems in Viscoelasticity

Download or read book Initial Value Problems in Viscoelasticity written by W. J. Hrusa and published by . This book was released on 1988 with total page 30 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This document reviews some recent mathematical results concerning integrodifferential equations that model the motion of one-dimensional nonlinear viscoelastic materials. In particular, the authors discuss global (in time) existence and long-time behavior of classical solutions, as well as the formation of singularities in finite time from smooth initial data. Although the mathematical theory is comparatively incomplete, some remarks are more concerning the existence of weak solutions (i.e., solutions with shocks). Some relevant results from linear wave propagation will also be discussed. Keywords: integrodifferential equations; mathematical models; Nonlinear viscoelasticity, materials with fading memory, viscoelastic fluids, linear wave propagation, acceleration waves, smooth kernels, singular kernels, Laplace transforms, hyperbolic equations, global existence, smooth solution. Download or read book Linear Theory written by A. Cemal Eringen and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 676 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Elastodynamics, Volume II: Linear Theory is a continuation of Volume I and discusses the dynamical theory of linear isotropic elasticity. The volume deals with the fundamental theorems regarding elastodynamics and the different mathematical methods of solution and their employment in one, two, and three dimensions. The text outlines the fundamentals of linear elastodynamics and explains basic equations, displacement formulation, stress formulation, and the uniqueness theorem of elastodynamics. The book also investigates elastodynamic problems involving one-space dimension in governing boundaries, equations, and initial conditions. The book then compares two-dimensional problems as being subject to more precise mathematical analysis compared to three-dimensional situations by using scalar wave equations. The text then analyzes elastodynamic problems in three space dimensions when the solution depends on the condition of separability of the vector wave equation and the satisfaction of the boundary conditions. The diffraction of elastic waves is also described using two approaches: the integral equation method or the Eigen function technique. The book can prove valuable to researchers and practitioners whose work involves advanced statistics, general physics, and thermodynamics.

Book Nonlinear Evolution Equations That Change Type

Download or read book Nonlinear Evolution Equations That Change Type written by Barbara L. Keyfitz and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 297 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This IMA Volume in Mathematics and its Applications NONLINEAR EVOLUTION EQUATIONS THAT CHANGE TYPE is based on the proceedings of a workshop which was an integral part of the 1988-89 IMA program on NONLINEAR WAVES. The workshop focussed on prob lems of ill-posedness and change of type which arise in modeling flows in porous materials, viscoelastic fluids and solids and phase changes. We thank the Coordinat ing Committee: James Glimm, Daniel Joseph, Barbara Lee Keyfitz, Andrew Majda, Alan Newell, Peter Olver, David Sattinger and David Schaeffer for planning and implementing an exciting and stimulating year-long program. We especially thank the workshop organizers, Barbara Lee Keyfitz and Michael Shearer, for their efforts in bringing together many of the major figures in those research fields in which theories for nonlinear evolution equations that change type are being developed. A vner Friedman Willard Miller, J r. ix PREFACE During the winter and spring quarters of the 1988/89 IMA Program on Non linear Waves, the issue of change of type in nonlinear partial differential equations appeared frequently. Discussion began with the January 1989 workshop on Two Phase Waves in Fluidized Beds, Sedimentation and Granular Flow; some of the papers in the proceedings of that workshop present strategies designed to avoid the appearance of change of type in models for multiphase fluid flow.
