Download or read book Global Business Local Law written by Amanda Perry-Kessaris and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-04-22 with total page 199 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume establishes a theoretical framework for exploring the role of host state legal systems (courts and bureaucracies) in mediating relations between foreign investment, civil society and government actors. It then demonstrates the application of that framework in the context of the south Indian city of Bengaluru (formerly Bangalore). Drawing on the 'law-and-community' approach of Roger Cotterrell, the volume identifies three mechanisms through which law might, in theory, ensure that social relations are productive: by expressing any mutual trust which may hold actors together, by ensuring that actors participate fully in social life and by coordinating the differences that hold actors apart. Empirical data reveals that each of these legal mechanisms is at work in Bengaluru. However, their operation is limited and skewed by the extent to which actors use, abuse and/or avoid them. Furthermore, these legal mechanisms are being eroded as a direct result of the World Bank's 'investment climate' discourse, which privileges the interests and values of foreign investors over those of other actors.

Book The Global Business Law

Download or read book The Global Business Law written by Hyungjin Kim and published by Quseum. This book was released on 2020-08-22 with total page 201 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book was motivated by the desire we and others have had to further the evolution of the core course in international legal issues on corporations under current global crisis. As this book is written for students with little legal knowledge, we have done our best to make it simple and easy when we are dealing with legal jargons and theories hoping that this book can be a guiding light to the readers when they want to grasp the very fundamental structure of legal system surrounding today’s corporations in the global market. As the U.S. is a dominant power in the world economy, it is unavoidable and also necessary that this book is focusing on the U.S. perspectives rather than many other countries’ perspectives. We would like to focus more on other countries, especially China, when we publish a revised version of this book later. It has been a great time for us to finish this book after many years of preparation and research. We are of concern that after such a long period of preparation, this book still needs to be improved in many points. We will continue to make every effort to improve the quality of this book from now on. Nevertheless, we are very honored and excited to wrap up this chapter of our lives by introducing this book of the second edition to the world.

Book Global Business Regulation

Download or read book Global Business Regulation written by John Braithwaite and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2000-02-13 with total page 194 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How has the regulation of business shifted from national to global institutions? What are the mechanisms of globalization? Who are the key actors? What of democratic sovereignty? In which cases has globalization been successfully resisted? These questions are confronted across an amazing sweep of the critical areas of business regulation--from contract, intellectual property and corporations law, to trade, telecommunications, labor standards, drugs, food, transport and environment. This book examines the role played by global institutions such as the World Trade Organization, World Health Organization, the OECD, IMF, Moodys and the World Bank, as well as various NGOs and significant individuals. Incorporating both history and analysis, Global Business Regulation will become the standard reference for readers in business, law, politics, and international relations.

Book Global Business Law

Download or read book Global Business Law written by John Warren Head and published by . This book was released on 2007 with total page 784 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This text, with its accompanying documentary Handbook for Global Business Law, substantially revises and updates the very popular first edition of Global Business Law (by David Frisch and Raj Bhala). In doing so, this second edition provides students of international business law (especially in law schools but also in practice) with a clear "story line" that addresses key questions facing international business lawyers as they advise clients on the three main forms of international business -- commercial sales, licensing & franchising, and foreign direct investment. In particular, the new edition provides helpful chapter overviews and Study Questions to highlight key elements to be drawn from the material. These new features -- together with a streamlining of case reports and secondary materials, a modest restructuring of the topics presented, additional illustrations and sample forms, and an updating from the earlier edition -- combine to make this text a clean and comprehensive introduction to the principles and practice of global business law.

Book Business Law in the Global Market Place

Download or read book Business Law in the Global Market Place written by Peter Nayler and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2006-08-11 with total page 271 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The study of Law forms a component of many undergraduate and postgraduate programs. Its inclusion does not aim to equip business practitioners with skill and expertise to render professional legal advice unnecessary, but more to provide a legal framework of reference in which both strategic and more immediate business issues can be placed. Equipping managers with a basic understanding of how law impacts upon business activity can help them avoid legal pitfalls in the first place or at least identify potential problems at an early stage, to avoid inconvenience and cost. International business can present problems that are not present in a purely domestic transaction. Any law component in a management program should embrace it and by doing so the business practitioner can be familiarized with the wider picture in which modern business, aided by technological development, is increasingly practiced.

This well-known book, now in a fully updated third edition, provides all the necessary information in an easy-to-use country-by-country format. Twenty-six country reports, each by a local expert, provide detailed information on the particular legal environment in each country vis-à-visadvertising, including specific effects of all relevant treaties and trade agreements. Among the issues and topics taken into account are the following: · effect of import restrictions on advertising; · use of price comparisons in advertising; · ‘cold calling’; · consumers’ right to dispute resolution; · ‘blacklisted’ practices; · use of a language other than that of the target country; · special rules for agricultural products; · principles of non-discrimination and equal treatment of nationals; · precautionary principle versus risk principle; · protection of trademarks; · false or deceptive indication of source; · product ‘placement’ in non-advertising communications; · respectful interaction with religious, cultural, and social values; and · when a statement may be deemed ‘misleading’. Because the freedom to market a product simultaneously in several countries is a significant economic benefit, the invaluable information and guidance in this book on what is legally possible in a broad range of countries will be enormously beneficial to firms in all fields that engage in the sale and marketing of products or services. Corporate counsel and marketing directors will warmly welcome this new edition of a proven handbook. "
