Book excerpt: Life after death has been the mesmerizing subject of the ages. Is there an afterlife? If so, can we learn truth about that plane of existence this side of eternity? The answer to both questions is a resounding yes, according to thrilling accounts of those who have returned from clinical death to report the amazing things they saw and heard. Terry James, a Christian and author of many books about Bible prophecy, died clinically three times on Good Friday, April 22, 2011. He and his co-author, Angie Peters, share the story of his fully medically documented experience on that strange, exhilarating day, and examine many other cases of near-death encounters through the lens of Scripture to present a powerful, detailed case for what awaits us once we leave this world and enter the next.

Book Glimpses into the World of Mathematics

Download or read book Glimpses into the World of Mathematics written by Szymon Chlebowski and published by LIT Verlag Münster. This book was released on with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Essays collected in this volume deal with various problems from the philosophy of mathematics. What connects them are two questions: how mathematics is created and how it is acquired. In 'Three Worlds of Mathematics' we are familiarized with David Tall's ideas pertaining to the embodied, symbolic and formal worlds of mathematics. In 'Basic Ideas of Intuitionism', we focus on an epistemological approach to mathematics which is distinctive to constructive mathematics. The author focuses on the computational content of intuitionistic logic and shows how it relates to functional programming. 'The Brave Mathematical Ant' carefully selects mathematical puzzles related to teaching experiences in a way that the solution requires creativity and is not obtainable by following an algorithm. Moreover the solution gives us some new insight into the underlying idea. 'Degrees Of Accessibility Of Mathematical Objects' discusses various criteria which can be used to judge accessibility of mathematical objects. We find logical complexity, range of applications, existence of a physical model as well as aesthetic values.

Book Clinical Strategies for Becoming a Master Psychotherapist

Download or read book Clinical Strategies for Becoming a Master Psychotherapist written by William O'Donohue and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2006-04-01 with total page 368 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The best health practices are a synthesis of science and art. Surgery is a case in point. Although all competent surgeons follow scientific protocols, the best surgeons are masters of the art of surgery and produce better outcomes: e.g., smaller incisions; lower mortality rates. Psychotherapists are in exactly the same position. Psychotherapy is both a science and an art. There are excellent resources that convey information about empirically supported practices — the science of psychotherapy. However, this scientific information is incomplete in two important ways. It does not cover key matters that come up in psychotherapy (e.g., building a therapeutic relationship, resistance, termination), and it often does not fully cover the "art" of implementing these techniques, the nuances, the creative ways, the problem solving strategies when difficulties arise. This book is an attempt to have high profile, expert, "master" therapists discuss the art of handling these key issues.

Download or read book The Site of Our Lives written by James S. Hans and published by State University of New York Press. This book was released on 1995-07-01 with total page 398 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book addresses the question of human uniqueness at a time when academic discourse has all but abandoned its long-held commitment to the value of individuality. Through an appraisal of the works of Emerson, Nietzsche, Heidegger, Derrida, and Foucault, the author establishes the ways in which the current critique of the self has grossly distorted the nature of the debate by reducing it to a simple choice between essential or constructed selves. Hans argues that the tradition that emerges from Emerson's work is based on a relational sense of the individual as much as it is devoted to the premise that we all have a specific form of integrity. Likewise, even though Nietzsche's critique of the fictional nature of the subject is the origin of contemporary visions of the fabricated self, Nietzsche is equally insistent that each of us is a productive uniqueness: we are all principles of selection whose links to the world embrace more than the social circumstances around us. Nietzsche's vision of our productive uniqueness is carried on in larger and smaller ways by Heidegger, Derrida, and Foucault, each of whom entertains a far more complex vision of the individual than those which currently dominate our ways of talking about what it means to be human.

Book My Child My Teacher

Download or read book My Child My Teacher written by Karen Sanford and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2020-09-14 with total page 53 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: My Child, My Teacher is an account of a mother and daughter both grappling with the daughter’s mental issues, the exhaustion and frustration of navigating the often ineffective, uncaring, and mismanaged justice, social and mental health systems, and the indelible impact it is having on the relationship between mother and daughter. The book assumes the perspective from a parent, in this case, a woman who through unforeseen circumstances of her own found herself having to navigate the bulk of this burden alone. It chronicles the loving yet turbulent relationship between mother and daughter and positively chronicles their way to acceptance and understanding. Her experiences reveal in sometimes painful bas relief, that life can present many challenges, some unspeakable, while others can be joyful beyond the imagination. The book takes a look at how when the justice system, social services, and mental health mechanism converge, sometimes the results can be disastrous as some of the examples show. But the book also provides links to possible solutions to families in need. As this whole situation is still a work in progress, the relationship between mother and daughter is evolving as well.
