Book Give Us This Day Our Daily Meds Bread

Download or read book Give Us This Day Our Daily Meds Bread written by Deanna Ricke and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2015-07-20 with total page 114 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Corporate executive Deanna Ricke discovered that the twenty-first century is a tough time to be a mom. From school shootings to pervasive porn, from children chained in basements to idolized addicts, the threats to her children were overwhelming, and fear of making the wrong decision nearly incapacitated her. She was no stranger to the debilitating effects of fear, however. In her work as a communications consultant, Deanna spent years helping corporate executives conquer their fear of public speaking. She knew that fear could be methodically, effectively managed. What if I fought fear with faith, instead of narcotics? she thought. What if I turned to God instead of Google? Would that make me crazy or just Catholic? An achingly honest and funny tale of how one worried working mom fought fear with faith and began hearing from God in wonderful ways. Deanna weaves together her own moving personal stories with Scripture, modern lyrics, and practical advice. She shares the seventeen steps she took to move from doubtful to devoutful. Each chapter begins with Scripture passages and ends with questions for consideration, making the book a great choice for individuals, book clubs, Bible studies, or small groups.

Book God Sex Drugs Other Things

Download or read book God Sex Drugs Other Things written by Howard Frankl and published by NewSouth Books. This book was released on 2016-05-18 with total page 178 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Howard Frankl's God, Sex, Drugs and Other Things begins with three essays on subjects found in the title: one essay on drugs, one on sex and one on God. The "Other Things" turn out to be Money and Murder, and there is an essay on each of these topics. The book comes to a close with a short epilogue on the reality that holds the whole work together, call it compassion, call it universal salvation, or just call it Love. Writer Ernesto Cardenal calls this "a bold book ... In it are things writers don’t dare say. Only God. And he has said them in the Bible. But since we read the Bible so often, those things don’t shock us. They shock us when someone says the same things in a new way. This is an orthodox book, but to some it will not seem so, because it presents the dogmas with a freshness and originality we’re not used to."

Book In the Blink of an Eye

Download or read book In the Blink of an Eye written by Judy Cooley and published by Page Publishing Inc. This book was released on 2024-05-13 with total page 537 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: My parents were great influences in my life. From my mom, I learned optimism. I never saw my mom in a bad mood. She was always happy and looked at the good side of everyone and everything. When she wanted a fireplace, she substituted as a mail carrier and after a year, was able to buy it. Once when thinking she and Dad might get a new car, a fire prevented it. Dad was a logger, and the logs on the cold deck of the lumber mill had burned up, which prevented him from paying his workers with the money he would have received. Neither parent mentioned it to us kids, and nothing changed in their behavior. They never talked to us kids about money, having it or not having it. Mom cooked, sewed our clothes, painted the walls inside our home, and always found a way to make something out of nothing. Our parents took in an AFS student: Olga, Job Corps girls, Japanese students, and others, which had a big influence on me. I remember her sending packages to her pen pals in Europe after WWII. Family was the most important to her. Mom took us to visit her parents and their siblings and her siblings. We learned stories about all of them. We lived minutes from my father's family and got to know and love them, too. So many stories to tell. In fact, when my little granddaughter, Natasha, spent the night with me, she always asked for the stories. What fun! She always asked for the stories about the people (the relatives).

Book excerpt: Men everywhere are under attack-your neighbor, your coworker, your pastor, even your husband. And, even in Christian homes, 40% of men have fallen to this foe that can destroy marriages and ruin lives. Who is this devastating adversary? Pornography. It floods our airwaves and PCs, assaulting the senses, and luring its prey to return again and again. Drawing from seventeen years of counseling practice, and using material that he's taught for more than ten years, Joe Dallas is helping readers face this enemy. Equipping those who have been caught up in pornography or other forms of sexual sin with the ability to abandon that behavior and never return. Using the acronym ROUTE-Repentance, Order, Understanding, Training, and Endurance-Dallas walks readers through the steps necessary to attain-and maintain-sexual integrity. "No one understands this subject better than Joe Dallas. And nowhere is there a more biblical and user-friendly 'game plan' for Christian men committed to reclaiming moral purity. A resource no man should be without!" --Hank Hanegraaff, president of the Christian Research Institute and host of the Bible Answer Man broadcast "Joe Dallas has written a practical handbook for men who want to get serious about their purity. The Game Plan is the tool that answers one of the most troubling problems in the church today, and it does so with compassion, clarity, and a sound biblical base."--D. James Kennedy, Ph.D. "You may beat your demon the first time through The Game Plan or you may need it through a long season, but it's a worthy companion. Joe's advice is sound and his format is friendly."--Tom Minnery, Focus on the Family "I can tell you without hesitation that The Game Plan is one of the best books I've ever read on this important topic."--Robert Adrescok, Editor, New Man Magazine
