Book Emotional intelligence speaking activities for ESL classrooms

Download or read book Emotional intelligence speaking activities for ESL classrooms written by María Teresa Victoria and published by Exlibric. This book was released on 2021-11-24 with total page 152 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Emotional Intelligence for ESL Classrooms is my contribution to English language teaching. Rather than aiming at writing this book, the activities shaped themselves one day into the form of this book after completing my doctoral studies in Emotional Intelligence and Mindfulness at the University of Málaga. Emotions live within us all and can emerge in classrooms of any kind, fi lled with pupils of a wide age range. These activities are therefore not aimed at a specifi c type or level group of students, but served as an array of possibilities from where my fellow teachers can pick & take into their classrooms to complement their lessons. The intention behind emotional intelligence practices is to generate a positive, non-punitive climate in the English classroom which boosts the students' self-confidence. An emotionally intelligent classroom where game-based learning activities and challenges can well coexist with Mindfulness interventions, which may raise self awareness of the students' learning processes, and where they can actually feel that mistakes are good opportunities to learn. Far from being too embarrassed to speak English students in emotionally intelligent classrooms will become more participative and willing to interact with their classmates, not only in class but also during out-of-class extracurricular activities. May the reader indulge in the illustrations from Pixabay, which have been selected for each activity as intentional prompts for conversation. Images can always provide extra opportunities for Mindfulness and Emotional Intelligence interventions in the classroom that can evoke connectivity and enhance concentration by focusing on the small details and relating to experiential practices. Visuals can actually be ever lasting ice-breakers for detailed imaginative creative exercises connected with the senses.

Book Sweet and Sour Pie

Download or read book Sweet and Sour Pie written by Dave Crehore and published by Terrace Books. This book was released on 2009-05-05 with total page 217 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As a young boy, Dave Crehore moved with his parents from northern Ohio to the shipbuilding town of Manitowoc on the shores of Wisconsin’s Lake Michigan, where the Germanic inhabitants punctuate their conversations with “enso,” the local radio station interrupts Beethoven for commercials, and the outdoors are a wellspring of enlightenment. Crehore’s stories of his youth in 1950s Wisconsin are peppered with engaging characters and a quiet wit. A grouse-hunting expedition goes awry when an eccentric British businessman bags an escaped bantam rooster with a landing net. Crehore's great-grandfather gets in trouble one Christmas when he sneaks a whoopee-cushion under a guest’s seat. The elderly Frau Blau gets trapped in an outhouse by a shady auctioneer during a farm sale. Through all the adventures—and misadventures—in a small town and in the great outdoors of Wisconsin, family is always at the center. This gently humorous look back at a baby-boomer’s awakening to adulthood will be appreciated by members of any generation. Her colleagues have medical cures, her mother has made a deal with God, but it’s her 17-year-old daughter, Jessica who devises the most unexpected medicine of all. Jessica’s life has been idyllic. Yes, her mother is a workaholic pediatrician who divorced her father when Jessica was a toddler. And she’s not close to her difficult older sister who resents both her parents and is away at college. Still, she’s always felt adored by her familia Latina and happy with her community of friends. So, she has never needed to find the mysterious man her mother once loved enough to have a secret affair with . . . when they created her. Until she learns that her mother has cancer and may die. Seeking her mother’s first love, meeting him, and counting on this man from Grace’s past to be there for them becomes Jessica’s most important goal. If love can heal anything, maybe it can heal her mother. Daniel Subia, left his small town and high school sweetheart to follow his career dreams. But getting a call from a daughter he didn’t know he had, brings him home to find everything changed. The small-town charm and acres of orange groves he grew up with have been swallowed by developers and abandoned by younger generations. In a town where nothing is as it used to be, is it possible to go back to a time when life was simple and everything was possible?

Book Take My Hand A Theological Memoir

Download or read book Take My Hand A Theological Memoir written by Andrew Taylor-Troutman and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2013-02-13 with total page 179 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Take My Hand is an invitation to experience a year of preaching through the eyes of a first-year pastor. Andrew Taylor-Troutman reflects on his experience of ministry as a dynamic exchange between his theological education and the people in the pews. Each chapter consists of Taylor-Troutman's reflections about a particular aspect of living as a faith community and concludes with a sermon exploring similar themes and ideas. As this book journeys through the Christian liturgical year, Taylor-Troutman considers a wide range of contemporary church issues, including the role of children in worship and the communal practice of Sabbath. He discusses topics as diverse as the Rapture, the death penalty, and church league softball. Along the way, readers will laugh at Sunday morning bloopers, study biblical texts from new perspectives, wrestle with theological questions, and discover parallels between their own experience of faith and the life of this small rural congregation. More than just a retrospective summary of events, Take My Hand poignantly illustrates how a pastor's work on Sunday morning grows out of his or her engagement with the hopes and fears of daily life, and the inspiring faith of men, women, and children in a church. The Group Study Edition encourages people of different ages and experiences to discuss and enjoy the book, while applying insights to their own communities of faith.
