That's what Andie learned from her grandmother and what she's always believed about cooking. But somehow, since marrying Ross, she's allowed her love of food to take a back seat and given up her dream of becoming a chef. Lately she's been craving more. And when her marriage falls apart, she's determined to find herself again and take back control of her destiny. TThe first step is taking a job in the kitchen of renowned chef Dominic Gerou. The brooding Englishman is more than Andie bargains for, but the new Andie is ready for anything, even a bad-tempered chef who makes it clear he won't tolerate mistakes. But, as Tamara discovered in her 25 years of work and research, everybody has the capacity to innovate. It's a person's unique innovation style, (which can be assessed and channelled), that can transform inertia into innovation. This book will resonate with those that recognize that being more innovative is their ticket to beingindispensable. It is also for leaders under pressure to build a culture of innovation but don't know how. Book Sharing Cities

    Book Details:
  • Author : Duncan McLaren
  • Publisher : MIT Press
  • Release : 2015-12-04
  • ISBN : 0262329719
  • Pages : 461 pages

Download or read book Sharing Cities written by Duncan McLaren and published by MIT Press. This book was released on 2015-12-04 with total page 461 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How cities can build on the “sharing economy” and smart technology to deliver a “sharing paradigm” that supports justice, solidarity, and sustainability. The future of humanity is urban, and the nature of urban space enables, and necessitates, sharing—of resources, goods and services, experiences. Yet traditional forms of sharing have been undermined in modern cities by social fragmentation and commercialization of the public realm. In Sharing Cities, Duncan McLaren and Julian Agyeman argue that the intersection of cities' highly networked physical space with new digital technologies and new mediated forms of sharing offers cities the opportunity to connect smart technology to justice, solidarity, and sustainability. McLaren and Agyeman explore the opportunities and risks for sustainability, solidarity, and justice in the changing nature of sharing. McLaren and Agyeman propose a new “sharing paradigm,” which goes beyond the faddish “sharing economy”—seen in such ventures as Uber and TaskRabbit—to envision models of sharing that are not always commercial but also communal, encouraging trust and collaboration. Detailed case studies of San Francisco, Seoul, Copenhagen, Medellín, Amsterdam, and Bengaluru (formerly Bangalore) contextualize the authors' discussions of collaborative consumption and production; the shared public realm, both physical and virtual; the design of sharing to enhance equity and justice; and the prospects for scaling up the sharing paradigm though city governance. They show how sharing could shift values and norms, enable civic engagement and political activism, and rebuild a shared urban commons. Their case for sharing and solidarity offers a powerful alternative for urban futures to conventional “race-to-the-bottom” narratives of competition, enclosure, and division.

But when the line between what’s real and pretend gets blurred, where do we draw the line and end the charade? Giana It’s not easy working for billionaire heir Bryce Holden III, not when all he ever does is party and party some more all while I make sure all his to-dos on his To Do list get done. But when he botches an important presentation after a wild night on the town, his father issues him an ultimatum: straighten up or get cut off from the family fortune. So he proposes we pretend to be engaged for the next 30 days while he straightens out his life and in return, he’ll take care of my grandmother’s medical expenses. It’s a win-win proposition and as long as we lay low, thirty days will go by fast. But when his mother insists on planning the wedding of the century, where do I draw the line and put a stop to the charade? Bryce When my father issues his ultimatum to settle down or get cut off from the family fortune, the last thing I expect is to hear him mention my assistant’s name. Did he really mean Giana, my plain Jane assistant who just happens to be a whiz with blueprints and LEED documentation? The same Giana who’s always made me look good while expertly disappearing in the background? So I give my dad exactly what he wants: I get engaged to the only woman he’s ever approved of. Sure, it’s fake, and with everyone getting what they want from the arrangement whether it’s getting my dad’s very rare seal of approval to a hotel expansion that’ll exceed every green building rating in the world, what’s the worst thing that could happen?

But when she needs somewhere to stay for the summer… well, I offer her my place. Being roommates shouldn’t be so hard. Not distracting at all. Not the least bit challenging… Mia I have two goals this summer: get into a study abroad program and get over golden baseball god Sebastian Miller-Callahan. Doesn’t mean it’s easy to stop thinking about him, but he deserves better than a prickly, career-focused girl like me. Our futures can’t be more different. The last thing I need is to play roommates with the only man who can set my body ablaze. And all the feelings I’ve tried to pretend I never had? They come rushing back far too strong for either of us to ignore. Filled with swoons, spice, sports, and second chances, Stealing Home is a don’t-miss adult college sports romance.

Book Even if Your Heart Would Listen

Download or read book Even if Your Heart Would Listen written by Elise Schiller and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2019-08-27 with total page 263 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In January 2014, Elise Schiller’s youngest child, thirty-three-year-old Giana Natali, died of a heroin overdose while a resident in a treatment program in Boulder County, Colorado. Even if Your Heart Would Listen is about Giana’s life, which was full of accomplishments, and her mental illness, addiction, and death. Using excerpts from the journals, planners, and letters Giana left behind, as well as evidence from her medical records, Schiller dissects her daughter’s treatment for opioid use disorder (OUD) at the five residential and several outpatient programs in eastern Pennsylvania where she tried to recover, taking a close look at the lack of continuity and solid medical foundations in the American substance-use treatment system even as she explores the deeply personal experience of her own loss. Poignant and timely, Even if Your Heart Would Listen is a meditation on a family’s grief, an intimate portrayal of a mother-daughter bond that endures, and an examination of how our nation is failing in its struggle with the opioid epidemic.
