Book Georgia Power Company Acoustic Emission Test Program

Download or read book Georgia Power Company Acoustic Emission Test Program written by AH. Bingham and published by . This book was released on 1992 with total page 21 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Aerial personnel devices are common equipment in industry today. At an electrical utility, aerial devices are used to position personnel and equipment during line work. Periodic mechanical and electrical tests are necessary to determine the integrity of the boom structure. This paper contains a brief overview of the Georgia Power fleet and the acoustic emission test program. The actual mechanics of a day to day test program are discussed. The acoustic emission acceptance criteria used by Georgia Power for aerial devices is discussed, and actual test results are examined to show the test program benefits. Safety, reduced service intervals, and extended service life can be assured with an adequate testing program.

Book An Acoustic Emissions Testing Program

Download or read book An Acoustic Emissions Testing Program written by JE. Colvin and published by . This book was released on 1992 with total page 7 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Alabama Power Company started AE Testing in 1983, after suffering a catastrophic failure of a fiberglass boom. As with most new technology we felt some skepticism but were soon sold on this new method of listening inside the fiberglass components This paper will give the details of our testing program as it started and discuss the changes that have taken place over the past seven years. It will include statistics concerning the number of failures and the percentage of the fleet that failed (9% 1983, less than 1% 1990). The paper will discuss the improvement in the mechanics condition of our fleet as a direct result of the AE Testing Program as we see it. Included in the paper will be at least two case histories of booms that failed the AE Test and the final solution. It will also cover what we feel is the actual value of our AE Testing Program as it has not only given us a safer fleet but has also reduced our maintenance costs by detecting problems while they are in the early stages, allowing us to make minor repairs rather than finding the defects after they have developed into a major repair. Today we require that all new equipment pass an acoustic emission test prior to acceptance by us. By the use of acoustic emission testing we have been able to improve our preventive maintenance program with the focus on areas of concern. We know and understand more about the unique characteristics of fiberglass and steel components through the use of AE Testing.

Book Acoustic Emission

Download or read book Acoustic Emission written by Zinoviy Nazarchuk and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-01-23 with total page 294 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph analyses in detail the physical aspects of the elastic waves radiation during deformation or fracture of materials. It presents the methodological bases for the practical use of acoustic emission device, and describes the results of theoretical and experimental researches of evaluation of the crack growth resistance of materials, selection of the useful AE signals. The efficiency of this methodology is shown through the diagnostics of various-purpose industrial objects. The authors obtain results of experimental researches with the help of the new methods and facilities.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These volumes constitute the Proceedings of a Symposium on the Fracture Mechanics of Ceramics, held at the Pennsylvania State University, University Park, Pennsylvania, July 11, 12, and 13, 1973. The theme of the symposium focussed on the mechanical behavior of brittle ceramics in terms of the characteristics of cracks. The 52 contributed papers by 87 authors, present an overview of the cur rent understanding of the theory and application of fracture mechan ics to brittle ceramics. The program chairmen gratefully acknowledge the financial assistance for the Symposium provided by the Office of Naval Re search, the College of Earth and Mineral Sciences of the Pennsyl vania State University, the Materials Research Center of Lehigh University, Bethlehem, Pennsylvana and Westinghouse Research Laboratories, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Special appreciation is extended to the expert organization provided by the J. Orvis Keller Conference Center of the Pennsyl vania State Conference Center of the Pennsylvania State University. In particular, Mrs. Patricia Ewing should be acknowledged for the excellent program organization and planning. Dean Harold J. O'Brien, who was featured as the after-dinner speaker and who presented a most stimulating talk on the communication between people, also contrib uted to the success of the meeting. Finally, we also wish to thank our joint secretaries for the patience and help in bringing these Proceedings to press. University Park R. C. Bradt Bethlehem D. P. H.
