This book was released on 2018-06-30 with total page 57 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Selected Issues paper assesses macroeconomic and structural reforms in Georgia. The government’s reform package includes a fiscal policy within a declining deficit path which intends to incentivize private investment, a scaling up of public investment, improvement in government’s efficiency, and an education reform. Based on modeling analysis, the implementation of this package will provide significant benefits to the economy. Over the long term, real GDP is estimated to be about 5 percent higher than in the baseline and—in the path toward the new equilibrium—annual growth about 0.7 percentage points higher over the medium term. The education reform has sizeable effects, but they only come into effect in the long term.

Book Fostering Entrepreneurship in Georgia

Download or read book Fostering Entrepreneurship in Georgia written by Smita Kuriakose and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page 83 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The central challenge facing the government of Georgia today is the need to find sources of long-term economic growth, particularly through development of the private sector. Key to the dynamism of that sector is entrepreneurial activity, which generates new businesses and fosters competition and economic growth. Fostering Entrepreneurship in Georgia uses data and in-depth case studies to identify the determinants of high-growth entrepreneurial activity. It finds that, while a number of reforms have been undertaken to improve the business environment, a number of constraints to the growth of entrepreneurial and innovative activity remain. Based on these findings, the book outlines broad policy directions for improving the business environment, providing access to finance, developing skills, increasing access to markets, incentivizing firm-level research and development, and raising awareness, and it identifies priority areas for government action. The issues discussed in this book will be of particular interest to policy makers who are aiming to achieve higher growth and job creation through entrepreneurship, as well as to development practitioners and those in the private sector."--Page 4 of cover.

It examines the political economy and the technicalities of Georgia’s groundbreaking reforms in 2004-2012 and how they were part of the broad state-building and modernization effort. The author elaborates on the three main pillars of Georgia’s growth and investor outreach: health of the sovereign balance sheet, soundness of the business environment and the efficiency of the banking sector. The book also provides cross-country discussion to show how the state building lessons from Georgia could be applied to other similar economies and will be of interest to scholars and professionals in the fields of public finance and economic growth.
