Book Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences

Download or read book Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences written by Wade H. Shafer and published by Springer. This book was released on 1976 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences was first conceived, published, and dis· seminated by the Center for Information and Numerical Data Analysis and Synthesis (CINDAS) *at Purdue University in 1957, starting its coverage of theses with the academic year 1955. Beginning with Volume 13, the printing and dissemination phases of the ac· tivity were transferred to University Microfilms/Xerox of Ann Arbor, Michigan, with the thought that such an arrangement would be more beneficial to the academic and general scientific and technical community. After five years of this joint undertaking we had concluded that it was in the interest of all concerned if the printing and distribution of the volume were handled by an international publishing house to assure improved service and broader dissemination. Hence, starting with Volume 18, Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences has been disseminated on a worldwide basis by Plenum Publishing Corporation of New York, and in the same year the coverage was broadened to include Canadian universities. All back issues can also be ordered from Plenum. We have reported in Volume 20 (thesis year 1975) a total of 10,374 theses titles from 28 Canadian and 239 United States universities. We are sure that this broader base for theses titles reported will greatly enhance the value of this important annual reference work. The organization of Volume 20 is identical to that of past years. It consists of theses titles arranged by discipline and by university within each discipline.

Book Geophysical Investigation of the Poverty Hills Eastern California

Download or read book Geophysical Investigation of the Poverty Hills Eastern California written by Jeremiah Thomas Rose (Graduate student) and published by . This book was released on 2021 with total page 98 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abstract: The Poverty Hills are located in the Owens Valley, California with the Sierra Nevada range to the west and the Inyo-White range to the east. The Poverty Hills constitute a portion of the northern section of the Owens Valley fault zone and are hypothesized to be the result of either a landslide or uplift origin, in primarily geologic studies. No geophysical methods have been previously employed to determine the origin of the Poverty Hills. Gravity and magnetic data were collected, processed, and analyzed over an approximate 500 km2 area surrounding the Poverty Hills. The grid extends across the east-west length of the Owens Valley and the north-south distance between Taboose Creek to Fish Springs. Gravity modeling was completed along 3 gravity lines that extend the width of Owens Valley, measuring between approximately 7,000 to 13,000 meters in length. Based on these data and modeling results, there is no evidence that explicitly indicates the Poverty Hills are the result of any type of landslide, much less a long-runout-landslide. Furthermore, gravity and magnetic highs are more consistent with basement uplift or igneous intrusion, likely related to the right-lateral Owens Valley fault system. How-ever, broad interpretations can be concluded from these data; 1. The gravity high to the west of the Poverty Hills represents a remnant ridge present in the sub-surface that extends to the south to crop out in the Alabama Hills; 2. The gravity and magnetic highs to the west of the Poverty Hills may also represent an intrusive dike or pluton; 3. Another, elongated, gravity high represents the trace of a left step in the right-lateral Owens Valley fault, which has resulted in the uplift of Poverty Hills, likely as a transpressional flower structure in the right-lateral Owens Valley fault. A future study may find it useful to increase the size of the study area to include the Sierra Nevada Mountains to have a more representative gravity and magnetic high to compare to the elongated gravity and magnetic anomalies.

Book Geomorphology in Arid Regions

Download or read book Geomorphology in Arid Regions written by Donald O. Doehring and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2020-05-11 with total page 188 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book, first published in 1980, collects together thirteen articles on ‘Geomorphology in Arid Regions’. It uses the term ‘arid’ loosely to include studies from climes which might otherwise be considered semi-arid, in order to provide a diversity of papers dealing with important problems of interest to geomorphologists today.
