Book excerpt: Multigrid methods are among the most efficient iterative methods for the solution of linear systems which arise in many large scale scientific calculations. Every researcher working with the numerical solution of partial differential equations should at least be familiar with this powerful technique. This invaluable book presents results concerning the rates of convergence of multigrid iterations.
Download or read book Common Zeros of Polynominals in Several Variables and Higher Dimensional Quadrature written by Yuan Xu and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2020-12-17 with total page 136 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Presents a systematic study of the common zeros of polynomials in several variables which are related to higher dimensional quadrature. The author uses a new approach which is based on the recent development of orthogonal polynomials in several variables and differs significantly from the previous ones based on algebraic ideal theory. Featuring a great deal of new work, new theorems and, in many cases, new proofs, this self-contained work will be of great interest to researchers in numerical analysis, the theory of orthogonal polynomials and related subjects.
Download or read book Integral Expansions Related to Mehler Fock Type Transforms written by B N Mandal and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2020-11-25 with total page 144 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An important class of integral expansions generated by Sturm-Liouville theory involving spherical harmonics is commonly known as Mehler-Fock integral transforms. In this book, a number of integral expansions of such type have been established rigorously. As applications, integral expansions of some simple function are also obtained.
Download or read book Conjugate Gradient Type Methods for Ill Posed Problems written by Martin Hanke and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2017-11-22 with total page 144 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The conjugate gradient method is a powerful tool for the iterative solution of self-adjoint operator equations in Hilbert space. This volume summarizes and extends the developments of the past decade concerning the applicability of the conjugate gradient method (and some of its variants) to ill posed problems and their regularization. Such problems occur in applications from almost all natural and technical sciences, including astronomical and geophysical imaging, signal analysis, computerized tomography, inverse heat transfer problems, and many more This Research Note presents a unifying analysis of an entire family of conjugate gradient type methods. Most of the results are as yet unpublished, or obscured in the Russian literature. Beginning with the original results by Nemirovskii and others for minimal residual type methods, equally sharp convergence results are then derived with a different technique for the classical Hestenes-Stiefel algorithm. In the final chapter some of these results are extended to selfadjoint indefinite operator equations. The main tool for the analysis is the connection of conjugate gradient type methods to real orthogonal polynomials, and elementary properties of these polynomials. These prerequisites are provided in a first chapter. Applications to image reconstruction and inverse heat transfer problems are pointed out, and exemplarily numerical results are shown for these applications.

Download or read book Solution Sets of Differential Equations in Abstract Spaces written by Robert Dragoni and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1996-04-03 with total page 42 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents results on the geometric/topological structure of the solution set S of an initial-value problem x(t) = f(t, x(t)), x(0) =xo, when f is a continuous function with values in an infinite-dimensional space. A comprehensive survey of existence results and the properties of S, e.g. when S is a connected set, a retract, an acyclic set, is presented. The authors also survey results onthe properties of S for initial-value problems involving differential inclusions, and for boundary-value problems. This book will be of particular interest to researchers in ordinary and partial differential equations and some workers in control theory.
Download or read book Localization and Sheaves written by Jara Pascual and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1995-11-30 with total page 260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book completely solves the problem of representing rings (and modules over them), which are locally noetherian over subsets of their prime spectrum by structure sheaves over this subset. In order to realise this, one has to develop the necessary localization theory as well as to study local equivalents of familiar concepts like the Artin-Rees property, Ore sets and the second layer condition. The first part of the book is introductory and self-contained, and might serve as a starting course (at graduate level) on localization theory within Grothendieck categories. The second part is more specialised and provides the basic machinery needed to effectively these structure sheaves, as well as to study their functorial behaviour. In this way, the book should be viewed as a first introduction to what should be called relative noncommutative algebraic geometry.
