The subsequent chapters are devoted to determination of reservoir properties, such as porosity, mineral occurrence, and permeability variation estimation. The discussion then shifts to the utility of a Bayesian-type formalism to delineate qualitative ""soft"" information and expert interpretation of reservoir description data. This topic is followed by papers concerning reservoir simulation, parameter assignment, and method of calculation of wetting phase relative permeability. This text also deals with the role of discontinuous vertical flow barriers in reservoir engineering. The last chapters focus on the effect of reservoir heterogeneity on oil reservoir. Book excerpt: This book presents an innovative approach to clinical assessment in psychiatry based on a number of psychopathological dimensions with a presumed underlying pathophysiology, that are related to fundamental phenomenological aspects and lie on a continuum from normality to pathology. It is described how the evaluation of these dimensions with a specific, validated rapid assessment instrument could easily integrate and enrich the classical diagnostic DSM-5 or ICD-10 assessment. The supplemental use of this dimensional approach can better capture the complexity underlying current categories of mental illness. The findings from a large patient sample suggest how this assessment could give a first glance at how variable and multifaceted the psychopathological components within a single diagnostic category can be, and thereby optimise diagnosis and treatment choices. Being short and easy to complete, this dimensional assessment can be done in a busy clinical setting, during an ordinary psychiatric visit, and in an acute clinical context, with limited effort by a minimally trained clinician. Therefore, it provides interesting and useful information without additional costs, and allows research work to be performed even in difficult settings.

Book excerpt: The Farewell terrane, in southwest Alaska, is predominantly located in the western Alaska Range, but crops out as far north as the Kuskokwim Mountains and represents one of the largest exotic terranes in the North American Cordillera. Exposed both north and south of the Denali fault, the Farewell terrane contains three somewhat distinct stratigraphic successions: 1) Neoproterozoic-Devonian carbonate rocks of the Nixon Fork subterrane, 2) Cambrian-Devonian carbonate and siliciclastic strata of the Dillinger subterrane, and 3) Devonian-Jurassic siliciclastic strata of the Mystic subterrane. This investigation aims to constrain the upper Paleozoic tectonic evolution of the Farewell terrane through sedimentologic interpretations and measured stratigraphy as well as by utilizing combined provenance techniques of sandstone modal compositions and U-Pb detrital zircon geochronology. Measured stratigraphy and sedimentologic analyses of upper Paleozoic (Mississippian--Permian) siliciclastic strata from the Mystic subterrane suggest a submarine basin-floor turbidite fan depositional environment. Modal composition trends reveal pervasive occurrences of lithic volcanic and sedimentary grains reflecting contributions from a magmatic arc to a recycled orogen source. U-Pb detrital zircon age peaks from the newly defined Mystic Pass formation reveals four trends in age spectra: 2000-1800 Ma, 465-405 Ma, 365-315 Ma, and 305-290 Ma. These trends correlate with both Siberian and North American magmatic source areas.

With recent interest in expanding petroleum exploration and production into deeper water-depths globally and more widespread availability of high-quality data sets, mass-transport deposits are now recognized as a major component of most deep-water settings. This recognition has lead to the realization that many aspects of these deposits are still unknown or poorly understood. This volume contains twenty-three papers that address a number of topics critical to further understanding mass-transport deposits. These topics include general overviews of these deposits, depositional settings on the seafloor and in the near-subsurface interval, geohazard concerns, descriptive outcrops, integrated outcrop and seismic data/seismic forward modeling, petroleum reservoirs, and case studies on several associated topics. This volume will appeal to a broad cross section of geoscientists and geotechnical engineers, who are interested in this rapidly expanding field. The selection of papers in this volume reflects a growing trend towards a more diverse blend of disciplines and topics, covered in the study of mass-transport deposits.
