Download or read book Principles of Practical Tectonic Analysis of Cratonic Regions written by Henry Lyatsky and published by Springer. This book was released on 2006-04-10 with total page 487 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Steep crystalline-basement faults, commonly indicated by potential-field anomalies, played a crucial role in evolution of continental cratonic platforms. In the Phanerozoic Western Canada Sedimentary Province, history of crustal block movements and warps is reconstructed from the distribution of depocenters, lithofacies and structures in structural-formational étages in sedimentary cover. Each étage is a rock succession formed during a particular tectonic stage; regional tectonic restructuring closes each stage, and the next stage represents a new tectonic regime. Practical tectonic analysis, based on observation of rocks and geophysical data, is a reliable guide for deciphering a region's geologic history and for resource exploration.

Download or read book Tectonic Subdivision and U Pb Geochronology of the Crystalline Basement of the Alberta Basin Western Canada written by M. E. Villeneuve and published by . This book was released on 1993 with total page 100 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this study was to provide a more detailed understanding of the basement, which has implications for the assembly and tectonic evolution of the Canadian Sheld, the provenance of sediments in the Cordilleran orogen, the tectonic affinities of crystalline basement exposed in structural culminations in the southern Canadian Cordillera and the structure of the crust that forms the floor of the Western Canada Sedimentary Basin. The Precambrian basement underlying the Paleozoic rocks of the Western Canada Sedimentary Basin was studied by combining potential field (gravity and aeromagnetic) analysis with lithological and isotopic studies of crystalline basement samples. The 93 samples retrieved from hydrocarbon exploration wells are described and the geochronology and systematics of 50 of the samples are presented and interpreted. Monazite and titanite help delineate post-crystallization, regional thermal events. Data from 35 of the cores are presented and used to test and delineate models for the tectonic evolution of the region.

Download or read book Metallic Resources 2 written by Sophie Decrée and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2024-02-06 with total page 372 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Metallic resources play a huge role in many fields: in the energy transition, the development of new technologies and the production and storage of green energy. Metallic Resources 2 presents various studies in notable metallogenic regions or deposits worldwide that enable us to tackle the question of the concentration of metals, especially strategic metals, in various geodynamic settings. An understanding of the geological processes that lead to the formation of deposits and influence their concentrations in the Earth's crust is of the utmost importance when it comes to uncovering new mineral resources. This book puts forward various different methodological approaches necessary in the study of deposits of metallic resources, from field observations to microanalysis. A study of specific geo-politico-economic frameworks is also presented.
