Book Aerosol Science and Technology

Download or read book Aerosol Science and Technology written by David S. Ensor and published by RTI Press. This book was released on 2011-10-06 with total page 584 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Aerosol Science and Technology: History and Reviews captures an exciting slice of history in the evolution of aerosol science. It presents in-depth biographies of four leading international aerosol researchers and highlights pivotal research institutions in New York, Minnesota, and Austria. One collection of chapters reflects on the legacy of the Pasadena smog experiment, while another presents a fascinating overview of military applications and nuclear aerosols. Finally, prominent researchers offer detailed reviews of aerosol measurement, processes, experiments, and technology that changed the face of aerosol science. This volume is the third in a series and is supported by the American Association for Aerosol Research (AAAR) History Working Group, whose goal is to produce archival books from its symposiums on the history of aerosol science to ensure a lasting record. It is based on papers presented at the Third Aerosol History Symposium on September 8 and 9, 2006, in St. Paul, Minnesota, USA.

Book Varying Gravity

    Book Details:
  • Author : Helge Kragh
  • Publisher : Birkhäuser
  • Release : 2016-02-05
  • ISBN : 3319243799
  • Pages : 197 pages

Download or read book Varying Gravity written by Helge Kragh and published by Birkhäuser. This book was released on 2016-02-05 with total page 197 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The main focus of this book is on the interconnection of two unorthodox scientific ideas, the varying-gravity hypothesis and the expanding-earth hypothesis. As such, it provides a fascinating insight into a nearly forgotten chapter in both the history of cosmology and the history of the earth sciences. The hypothesis that the force of gravity decreases over cosmic time was first proposed by Paul Dirac in 1937. In this book the author examines in detail the historical development of Dirac’s hypothesis and its consequences for the structure and history of the earth, the most important of which was that the earth must have been smaller in the past.

Book Bibliography on Ionospheric Propagation of Radio Waves

Download or read book Bibliography on Ionospheric Propagation of Radio Waves written by Wilhelm Nupen and published by . This book was released on 1960 with total page 486 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This bibliography comprises a non-exhaustive compilation of over 1400 references to the world's literature in the ionosphere with special emphasis on its effect on reflection, refraction or propagation of electromagnetic waves. The frequencies involved are usually in the low frequency or long wave bands in contrast to those (UHF, VHF and SHF) involved in tropospheric propagation investigations although the pulsed technique at vertical or slant incidence makes use of a wide range of frequencies.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 45 downwards because (j on the average increases with height; but this conclusion does not follow from (18.3) when the dependency of Kc upon ~o is taken into consideration. s 2 ERTELl and PRIESTLEY and SWINBANK have shown that the upward eddy flux of sensible heat must be larger than indicated by (18.3), because this formula does not account for the fact that rising eddies are systematically warmer than sinking eddies because of the effect of buoyancy. The reader is referred to the reviews by SUTTON [22], [23] and PRIESTLEY and SHEP PARD [15) for further details concerning eddy-flux of heat and turbulent diffusion. 19. RICHARDSON'S criterion. The right-hand side of (15.10) represents the rate of production of eddy energy. The last term represents energy loss by dissipation; in order that the eddy energy shall be maintained, it is therefore necessary that P div V" - (! V" v" . grad. v > O.

Book Intrinsic Geodesy

    Book Details:
  • Author : A. Marussi
  • Publisher : Springer Science & Business Media
  • Release : 2012-12-06
  • ISBN : 3642702430
  • Pages : 242 pages

Download or read book Intrinsic Geodesy written by A. Marussi and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The science of Geodesy has undergone far-reaching changes in the last half century. The impact of new technology, from electromag netic distance measurements to the use of artificial satellites, has been great, and is still largely to be felt. These changes have forced the practitioners of the ancient art of Earth measurement to alter their way of thinking about the space that surrounds us, something fundamentally more difficult than absorbing a new technology. A key influence in this modem change in geodetic thinking has been the work of Antonio Marussi, in his scientific publications from 1947 onwards, through his students and collaborators at the Uni versity of Trieste, and in the series of symposia on three-dimensional Geodesy which he organised with his great friend and collaborator, Martin Hotine. His influence on the latter, stemming from their first meeting at the General Assembly of the International Association of Geodesy in Oslo in 1948, was remarkable in itself, leading as it did to the ultimate publication of Hotine's Mathematical Geodesy in 1969.

Book A Study of the Morphology of Geomagnetic Storms

Download or read book A Study of the Morphology of Geomagnetic Storms written by Masahisa Sugiura and published by . This book was released on 1961 with total page 54 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The verage morphology of magnetic storms with sudden commencement was studied with 346 magn tic storms that occurred in the years 1902 to 1945. Magnetic recor from 26 observatories were used. The 346 storms were classed into three intensity groups of great, moderate and weak storms, and their morphology was investig ted s par t ly S OR VARI TION WAS ANALYZED INTO WO PARTS, Dst and DS. DS was naly ed harmonically, and its changes with storm time were studied in great detail. The author's present views on stor sudden commencements and on the b ormal nature of t e storm variations at the geomagnetic equator are briefly reviewed. (Author).
