Download or read book Getting Intimate written by Linn Sandberg and published by Linköping University Electronic Press. This book was released on 2011-04-08 with total page 299 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis focuses on the intersections of masculinity, old age and sexuality from the perspectives of old men themselves, how they understand and experience sex and sexuality in later life. The study uses qualitative in-depth interviews and body diaries, an exploratory method that asked men write about their bodies in everyday life. Twenty-two men, born between 1922 and 1942, participated in the study. The aim of the thesis is two-fold: firstly, to study sexual subjectivities of old men, how old men articulate and make meaning around sexuality in later life. Secondly, the study aims to explore theoretically what a male body may become in relation to ageing; in what ways the ageing male body could be a site for rethinking masculinity and the male body. This aim was inspired by feminist theories in dialogue with the deleuzian concept becoming. Similarly to gender, age is understood to take shape and become intelligible in social and cultural contexts. Furthermore, the thesis stresses the significance of the specificities of the ageing body to the shaping of masculinity, sexuality and subjectivity. The body is therefore discussed as an “open materiality”, beyond the binaries of culture and nature/materiality. This thesis discusses the concepts intimacy and touch as central to how old men’s sexual subjectivities take shape, allowing for alternative conceptualisations of sexuality beyond erection and intercourse. Intimacy and touch are understood and discussed in several different ways. By orienting themselves to touch and intimacy the old men emerged as more mature, unselfish and with more serene sexual desires. This also involved them distancing themselves from the younger man/other men, whom they perceived as more selfish, inconsiderate and with stronger sexual desires. Intimacy and touch could in this respect be understood as resources for shaping desirable heterosexual masculinity. An orientation to intimacy and touch enabled old men to appear as neither asexual nor as “dirty” old men. But the study also suggests that a turn to intimacy and touch may open up possibilities for rethinking and reconfiguring sexuality, masculinity and the male body. The ageing body then need not be understood as an obstacle but as an enabling site that provides opportunities for intimacy and touch. Moreover, the thesis presents affirmative old age as an alternative conceptualisation of old age, beyond both the discourses of successful ageing and the discourses of old age as negativity and decline. As a theory of difference and bodily specificity, affirmative old age may be of interest for further feminist theorising.

Book Blood Sucking Freak

Download or read book Blood Sucking Freak written by John Szpunar and published by SCB Distributors. This book was released on 2018-08-27 with total page 455 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: New York City, 1976. Newspaper ads dare the denizens of Times Square to see a morbid little movie called The Incredible Torture Show. The film is yanked from theaters before it finds its audience. Years later it is retitled Blood Sucking Freaks and hits pay dirt, playing to shocked crowds and becoming a perverse cult classic. Its writer and director is Joel M. Reed. Like his films, the life of Joel M. Reed is a crazy cocktail of New York satire and sleaze, from swanky supper clubs in the 1950s through to the decrepit grindhouses of the 1970s. Using Reed and his films as its cornerstone, this book — twenty years in the making — is a dirty snapshot of the last gasp of Times Square before AIDS, crack cocaine, and anti-pornography laws strike their final blow. Strap yourself in for an unforgettable journey.

Download or read book Steps of the Plowman written by Dale Miettinen and published by Trafford Publishing. This book was released on 2004 with total page 284 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the late spring and early summer of 2002, a serial killer is on the prowl in a city of almost a million people. By mid-June, there are five bodies. Uniquely, there is no public panic. The reason? The only people aware of the murders are a small group of police investigators. Such secrecy was implemented, not only to avoid hysteria, but because rumors exist that the perpetrator is either a current or former member of the local police. Another cause for the close confidentiality emanates from the fact that all five victims were high-risk predatory pedophiles recently released from prison. The story deals in part with the personalities of the killer, his victims, and the impact on the people that were preyed upon by these pedophiles. As the tale unfolds, there are self-examinations by the police, prosecutors, officials in the justice system, and a young defense lawyer. In addition, a member of the judiciary is persuaded that the entire system has contaminated "the law" that allegedly protects children from monsters. Political will and effectiveness, and the ever-present media, also surface. The five bodies are discovered within a ten-day period. Physical evidence is practically non-existent. Another contributing factor surrounding the pressure on the police team to solve the murders as quickly as possible concerns the perception of their motivation to interrupt the vigilante before he's "finished." The investigators don't want to be seen as "dragging their ass." The initial stages of the investigation are discouraging, but as the police plod their way, a description of a suspect emerges. His identity, of course, is a different story. A profile develops with a full description of an older man seen in the company of the first three local victims hours before they are found dead. The only thing is who the hell is he? It soon becomes clear that the old man has "inside help" on locating the pedophiles. The police hope that it's not someone from their department. A break and a coincidence provide identification of the suspect, and a widowed senior citizen becomes the focus of the investigation. The police team sets up two types of surveillance and obtains a photograph of the man. His photo is identified without any hesitation by three witnesses and, later, two more. A circumstantial case is presented to the prosecutors. They believe enough evidence exists, and, like the police, feel that physical evidence will surface after the arrest. Wrong! An omission, perhaps inadvertent, is discovered by the old man's legal aid lawyer in the police report given to the prosecutor's office. This is enough to secure the freedom of the accused 'judicial interim release.' Two nights later, the old man "rehabilitates" another dangerous pedophile at his own home. This little escapade becomes more complicated and results in solidifying a case against the old man. His lawyer has other plans, however. Her client tells her about his old friend with the justice department whose 5-year-old daughter was abducted and murdered in 1998. The friend's wife was now in a mental hospital, and the friend's health was slowly ebbing away, since there had never been any arrest or any kind of closure. The friend volunteered to work with the old man's lawyer and make a proposal to his life-long friend, a judge in the Court of Queen's Bench. The proposal suggests that, if this matter were to get into court, the young lawyer would call every police officer, jail guard, prison psychiatrist, victim, and the families of every victim of all six pedophiles. These witnesses would describe the impact of the intrusion of each pedophile since and including his first conviction. A hearing is arranged in front of the judge, much to the chagrin of a Member of Parliament and an associate of the legislature. This is because they haven't yet "figured it out." A seventh murder is discovered early in the morning on the day of the hearing. As if things were

Book excerpt: Thirty-two strangers arrive at a Church-owned retreat facility on Saturday to work with some of the best trainers in the field of sexuality. They’re told that by the end of the week, they’ll know more about sex than ninety percent of the population. What they go home with on the following Saturday is a lot more than they anticipated or were promised. Besides laughing, crying, swearing, and cheering through films and intimate discussions about sexual values, body image, “self-pleasuring,” gender identity, sexual orientation, seduction, abuse, theology, and “turn ons,” they faced off with each other around an altar in the woods, under blankets and star-filled skies, bare-assed in the water, and with hands joined singing in a circle. Most everyone goes home forever changed. That is, if they make it through the week. The Annual Workshop on Sexuality at Thornfield was called “the world’s best kept secret.” Now you’re in on it.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An unprecedented source of information about sex and sexuality at the start of the 21st century, these volumes include research, current events and new developments in subjects ranging from hypersexuality, sex for the aged, and sex therapy, to orgasmic disorders, sexual fetishism and sadism. Controversial subjects such as pornography, nude dancing and prostitution are explored, as are dysfunctions, from lack of sexual desire to gender identity disorder. Pedophilia and other crimes are also addressed. The remarkable team of contributing authors includes psychologists, sociologists, psychiatrists, medical doctors and public health officials. The books also offer insights into the psychology of sexual arousal and the effects medication can have on sexual function, and they shed light on such little-heralded studies as those on sex and race, and sex and religion.
