Book Gateways Book Seven What Lay Beyond

Download or read book Gateways Book Seven What Lay Beyond written by Diane Carey and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2002-06-08 with total page 396 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Created by the incalculably ancient Iconians, whose transcendent technology is quantum levels beyond that of the Federation and its allies, the Gateways offer instantaneous transport across unimaginable distances. Throughout the known galaxy, from Deep Space Nine™ to the New Frontier, from the Delta Quadrant to the bridge of the Starship Enterprise™, the sudden reactivation of the Gateways has destabilized interstellar relations between planets and cultures previously separated by countless light-years. Starfleet's finest have coped with the crisis as best they can, but circumstances have forced several valiant commanders to leap through separate Gateways into the unknown. Captain James T. Kirk of the original Starship Enterprise Captain Jean-Luc Picard of Star Trek: The Next Generation® Colonel Kira Nerys of Deep Space Nine Captain Kathryn Janeway of the U.S.S. Voyager™ Captains Calhoun and Shelby of Star Trek : New Frontier Commander Nick Keller of the U.S.S. Challenger All of these heroes, for their own reasons, have taken the ultimate gamble: hurling themselves personally through a Gateway without any knowledge or forewarning of what lay beyond. Each must face their own unique challenge, struggling to find a way back to the ships and homes they left behind. And waiting behind at least one of the Gateways are the ageless Iconians themselves, the primordial architects of the mysterious portals causing chaos throughout the Milky Way galaxy. Where did they disappear to, many long eons ago, and what do they want now? The answer lies on the other side.... What Lay Beyond brings the Gateways saga to a spectacular finish, in an all-star collaboration by six popular, bestselling Star Trek authors. Among them, Diane Carey, Peter David, Keith R.A. Decandido, Christie Golden, Robert Greenberger, and Susan Wright have written dozens of Star Trek novels. This is their first mega-collaboration.

Book The Gateway to Understanding

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The study of electronic waves has been broken down into artificial subdivisions where most texts cover a small part of the subject mathematically while ignoring the rest. In our scientific community, there has been a need for a coherent, one-stop approach that covers the breadth of this material in a manner that allows a total comprehension of the subject. I believe this book finally fills this void by delivering this long-awaited material.

Book Volitional inhibition the gateway for an efficient control of voluntary movements

Download or read book Volitional inhibition the gateway for an efficient control of voluntary movements written by Giovanni Mirabella and published by Frontiers E-books. This book was released on with total page 135 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Being able to suppress a pending action is a fundamental ability for surviving in an unpredictable World. Sudden events, such as the appearance of a physical obstacle, might require a quick change of the planned motor strategy. The first step toward this goal is to suppress the pre-programmed actions. Understanding the functional characteristics and the neural underpinnings of inhibition is a primary aim, both for the treatment of such diseases as attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder, where the decision-making abilities are severely impaired, and for the development of efficient brain–machine interfaces. Despite an incredible amount of work, witnessed by tens of articles published on Medline, both the localizations of the neural substrates of voluntary inhibition and their specific contributions to this executive function are still controversial. However, the ability of vetoing pending actions is likely to be at the basis of self control and of mental simulation of voluntary actions. In other words the veto power is a cornerstone of our will. As such the neural code underling volitional inhibition should be taken into account to feed appropriate signals into artificial devices to mimic voluntary movements. The aim of the present Research Topic is twofold. On the one hand it will show the most innovative aspects of the current researches on the neural substrates and functional mechanisms of volitional inhibition. On the other hand it will deal with the possible applications of the acquired knowledge for building up interfaces that could collect and decode incoming neural signals in order to move artificial limbs and/or to interact with personal computers.

Book Binocular rivalry a gateway to consciousness

Download or read book Binocular rivalry a gateway to consciousness written by Alexander Maier and published by Frontiers E-books. This book was released on with total page 263 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Brain-mind problems like consciousness have been stimulating the interest of philosophers and scientists since the ancient times. In the last decades, the dramatic development of neuroscience has allowed studying such phenomena at several different levels – from single neurons to behavior. Binocular rivalry, a paradigm dissociating the sensory input from the conscious perception during dichoptic viewing of incongruent images, has been a celebrated example of such a tool. During the last century, empirical research on binocular rivalry contributed the first important insights into the neuronal mechanisms of subjective visual perception. Recent advances in brain imaging and electrophysiological recording/stimulating techniques as well as novel theoretical concepts and analytical methods could be exploited to expand our knowledge on this fascinating phenomenon of visual perception and elucidate the neural processes underlying visual consciousness. This Research Topic aims to bring together contributions that could expand the current frontiers of knowledge in binocular rivalry. In particular we would like to focus on reviews, hypothesis & theory or original research articles that specifically combine novel concepts, analytical tools and neurophysiological techniques with binocular rivalry. We expect that these contributions will a) integrate the vast knowledge already existing in the field b) formulate and, when possible, address questions under the light of recent methodological advances in neuroscience and c) provide a benchmark that will stimulate future cutting edge research.

Book The Secrets of Humankind by Divine Design the gateway to mindfulness and self awareness Spiritual warfare series book 1

Download or read book The Secrets of Humankind by Divine Design the gateway to mindfulness and self awareness Spiritual warfare series book 1 written by Eleazar Ben Michael and published by Eleazar publishing. This book was released on with total page 254 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since surgeons cannot see a soul inside the external mortal body, the concept of spirit-soul becomes incredibly challenging to most people. The idea may be difficult to comprehend if one is a modern materialist who has little or no belief in spirituality, the reality of the non-corporeal dimension, and the existence of angelic beings in our comic universe. Many people keep asking what the soul is and whether it is an object we carry around inside us. What constitutes its essential nature as a rational personality and spiritual origin, if any? Does humankind have a soul and inner spiritual life? Again, what do we know about consciousness, the nature of immortality, and the afterlife? Who is the father of spirits and humankind? This book and the others in the series will answer some of these questions and much more for the readers. The book is in three volumes because all the facts cannot be made available in a single book without skipping relevant details. Therefore, the author shall present this information about the human soul-its origin, nature, and destiny- in three separate books for easy readability and a better understanding of the subjects. We advise you to read the three volumes as a trilogy series, and finally, please take what you find useful and leave the rest. We hope this book will show you some of the biblical and non-biblical sources, information about the spiritual body. This first part shows you the basic necessary information about the soul and its origin. We shall also talk about a spiritualist who has become a dear friend since his conversion from the occult to believe Yeshua as the Savior of his life. His testimonies will undoubtedly produce some expositions about the soul, the origin of the spiritual self, and the truth about the dangers of spiritual travels that perhaps you have never been told. Finally, we shall be looking at how to break from soul ties and obtain lasting freedom from the demons of the occult using our findings through experience and research on this topic. As we shall discover, we have a spirit-soul that is something far more significant than the material envelope, which is our physical form. But this spirit body is inside of us all, and it is just one of the many secrets of humankind by divine design.
