Download or read book The Return of Gandhi written by Dr. D. Vizai Bhaskar and published by Notion Press. This book was released on 2021-06-01 with total page 42 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “The Return of Gandhi”, in my opinion, rightly predicts that the Mahatma would not sit around and mourn the loss of his legacy. Rather, he would travel this great land, see, learn and understand. And he would then spring to action. Dalits and Adivasis constitute the very heart of Indian society and their pain resonated deeply with Gandhi and he saw their upliftment simply as the pursuit of justice. In the course of my work with the United Nations, I have seen just how large an impact Gandhi left on the world. I recall a youth in a totalitarian country once asking me, “You had Gandhi…who do we have?”. In his words was a fervent longing for a leader who spoke to the masses of his country and for an example that he could identify with. I was barely surprised when his country had a non-violent revolution a year later. For whenever Gandhi is remembered, his spirit returns. Dr Vizai Bhaskar’s Gandhi vows to “lift India from the quick sand of political delinquency and the slush of corruption and dishonesty” to “the solid rock of political and economic Justice”. He promises to return, to protect the persecuted, “the good and the innocent”, and to become the “body, mind and soul of the common man”. Indians may give up Gandhi’s ways, but let us pray that Gandhi will never give up on India. - Raja Karthikeya. Diplomat, United Nations

Download or read book Tales of Young Gandhi written by Janhavi Prasada and published by HarperCollins. This book was released on 2016-10-15 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Encouraged by his co-workers, Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi decided to write his autobiography in the 1920s. The Story of My Experiments with Truth went on to inspire generations of people worldwide. As on millions of others, the memoir of an ordinary man who achieved extraordinary feats had a strong impact on Janhavi Prasada when she first read it. And with that was born her desire to share his path of peace, and the inspiration she had found in his work, with as many people as she could. As she realized, he was much ahead of his times not only as a thinker but also as a doer. The values that he taught - truth, non-violence, simple living, cleanliness - are even more relevant today than then. Exquisitely illustrated, with visual content that Janhavi collected over eight years of travel to Porbandar, London and South Africa, Tales of Young Gandhi retells the story of a fascinating life and hopes to introduce a new generation of readers to the Mahatma.
Download or read book Notable Books Notable Lessons written by Andrea S. Libresco and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2017-09-21 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides teachers, librarians, and education methods professors with strategies, lesson plans, and activities that enable them to use literature as a springboard to social studies thematic instruction. With the amount of time and resources allocated to teaching social studies being significantly reduced, social studies lessons need to be incorporated into other subjects. Notable Books, Notable Lessons: Putting Social Studies Back in the K–8 Curriculum offers the tools to teach students social studies concepts that are increasingly relevant and essential in today's diverse, globalized world—lessons that are vital in order to prepare students to think critically and participate in our multicultural democracy. Providing information that elementary and middle school teachers and librarians, district-level curriculum directors and principals, staff developers, and social studies and literacy methods professors will find extremely useful, this book uses the National Council for the Social Studies (NCSS)/Children's Book Council (CBC)'s current and past lists of Notable Books at the elementary and middle school levels to offer easy-to-follow lesson plans that integrate social studies instruction with reading and language arts. The lesson plans pose compelling questions to facilitate discussion and critical thinking and suggest engaging activities that are connected to the social studies concepts. The book also includes sample student handouts for the selected pieces of literature.
Download or read book Gandhi s Interpreter written by Geoffrey Carnall and published by Edinburgh University Press. This book was released on 2010-05-07 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Horace Alexander was an English Quaker who negotiated relations between Indian nationalist leaders and the British Government in the years before the transfer of power. Alexander was Gandhi's trusted intermediary; at the same time, he enjoyed the confidence of British Conservative ministers and Labour representatives. Alexander avoided publicity so successfully that his role has almost entirely escaped the attention of historians, including his efforts to prevent the outbreak of the Second World War. This beautifully written biography relates the development of Alexander's commitment from its origins in Quaker pacifism and optimistic liberal ideology to its attempted realization of a humane and just international order. As Geoffrey Carnall demonstrates, Alexander believed in Gandhi's ideas and sought to interpret them in terms that were comprehensible to the West.

Arun Gandhi tries very hard to follow these vows, but he struggles with one of the most important rules: not to waste. How can throwing away a worn-down pencil hurt anyone? And in time he comes to understand the truth of his grandfather’s words: “Be the change you wish to see in the world.”

How could he—a Gandhi—be so easy to anger? One thick, hot day, Arun Gandhi travels with his family to Grandfather Gandhi’s village. Silence fills the air—but peace feels far away for young Arun. When an older boy pushes him on the soccer field, his anger fills him in a way that surely a true Gandhi could never imagine. Can Arun ever live up to the Mahatma? Will he ever make his grandfather proud? In this remarkable personal story, Arun Gandhi, with Bethany Hegedus, weaves a stunning portrait of the extraordinary man who taught him to live his life as light. Evan Turk brings the text to breathtaking life with his unique three-dimensional collage paintings.
Download or read book The Two Character Play written by Tennessee Williams and published by New Directions Publishing. This book was released on 1979-01-17 with total page 86 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A classic play by Tennessee Williams in a definitive, author-approved edition. Reality and fantasy are interwoven with terrifying power as two actors on tour—brother and sister—find themselves deserted by the trope in a decrepit "state theatre in an unknown state." Faced (perhaps) by an audience expecting a performance, they enact "The Two-Character Play"—an illusions within an illusion, and "out cry" from isolation, panic and fear. "I think it is my most beautiful play since Streetcar," Tennessee Williams said, "and I've never stopped working on it....It is a cri de coeur, but then all creative work, all life, in a sense is a cri de coeur." In the course of its evolution, several earlier versions of The Two-Character Play have been produced. The first of them was presented in 1967 in London and Chicago and brought out in 1969 by New Directions in a signed limited edition. The next, staged in 1973 in New York under the title Out Cry, was published by New Directions in 1973 The third version (New York, 1975), again titled The Two-Character Play, is the one Tennessee Williams wished to include in New Directions' The Theatre of Tennessee Williams series. It is this version which is presented in this ND paperback.
