This book was released on 2022-10-17 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book on Gradient Boosting methods is intended for students, academics, engineers, and data scientists who wish to discover in depth the functioning of this Machine Learning technique used to build decision tree ensembles. All the concepts are illustrated by examples of application code. They allow the reader to rebuild from scratch his own training library of Gradient Boosting methods. In parallel, the book presents the best practices of Data Science and provides the reader with a solid technical background to build Machine Learning models. After a presentation of the principles of Gradient Boosting citing the application cases, advantages and limitations, the reader is introduced to the details of the mathematical theory. A simple implementation is given to illustrate how it works. The reader is then armed to tackle the application and configuration of these methods. Data preparation, training, explanation of a model, management of Hyper Parameter Tuning and use of objective functions are covered in detail! The last chapters of the book extend the subject to the application of Gradient Boosting for time series, the presentation of the emblematic libraries XGBoost, CatBoost and LightGBM as well as the concept of multi-resolution models.

Book excerpt: This monograph provides a general introduction to advanced computational methods for free energy calculations, from the systematic and rigorous point of view of applied mathematics. Free energy calculations in molecular dynamics have become an outstanding and increasingly broad computational field in physics, chemistry and molecular biology within the past few years, by making possible the analysis of complex molecular systems. This work proposes a new, general and rigorous presentation, intended both for practitioners interested in a mathematical treatment, and for applied mathematicians interested in molecular dynamics.

Download or read book Normal Surface Singularities written by András Némethi and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-10-07 with total page 732 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph provides a comprehensive introduction to the theory of complex normal surface singularities, with a special emphasis on connections to low-dimensional topology. In this way, it unites the analytic approach with the more recent topological one, combining their tools and methods. In the first chapters, the book sets out the foundations of the theory of normal surface singularities. This includes a comprehensive presentation of the properties of the link (as an oriented 3-manifold) and of the invariants associated with a resolution, combined with the structure and special properties of the line bundles defined on a resolution. A recurring theme is the comparison of analytic and topological invariants. For example, the Poincaré series of the divisorial filtration is compared to a topological zeta function associated with the resolution graph, and the sheaf cohomologies of the line bundles are compared to the Seiberg–Witten invariants of the link. Equivariant Ehrhart theory is introduced to establish surgery-additivity formulae of these invariants, as well as for the regularization procedures of multivariable series. In addition to recent research, the book also provides expositions of more classical subjects such as the classification of plane and cuspidal curves, Milnor fibrations and smoothing invariants, the local divisor class group, and the Hilbert–Samuel function. It contains a large number of examples of key families of germs: rational, elliptic, weighted homogeneous, superisolated and splice-quotient. It provides concrete computations of the topological invariants of their links (Casson(–Walker) and Seiberg–Witten invariants, Turaev torsion) and of the analytic invariants (geometric genus, Hilbert function of the divisorial filtration, and the analytic semigroup associated with the resolution). The book culminates in a discussion of the topological and analytic lattice cohomologies (as categorifications of the Seiberg–Witten invariant and of the geometric genus respectively) and of the graded roots. Several open problems and conjectures are also formulated. Normal Surface Singularities provides researchers in algebraic and differential geometry, singularity theory, complex analysis, and low-dimensional topology with an invaluable reference on this rich topic, offering a unified presentation of the major results and approaches.
Download or read book Computer Models of Process Dynamics written by Olis Harold Rubin and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2022-10-04 with total page 324 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: COMPUTER MODELS OF PROCESS DYNAMICS Comprehensive overview of techniques for describing physical phenomena by means of computer models that are determined by mathematical analysis Computer Models of Process Dynamics covers everything required to do computer based mathematical modeling of dynamic systems, including an introduction to a scientific language, its use to program essential operations, and methods to approximate the integration of continuous signals. From a practical standpoint, readers will learn how to build computer models that simulate differential equations. They are also shown how to model physical objects of increasing complexity, where the most complex objects are simulated by finite element models, and how to follow a formal procedure in order to build a valid computer model. To aid in reader comprehension, a series of case studies is presented that covers myriad different topics to provide a view of the challenges that fall within this discipline. The book concludes with a discussion of how computer models are used in an engineering project where the readers would operate in a team environment. Other topics covered in Computer Models of Process Dynamics include: Computer hardware and software, covering algebraic expressions, math functions, computation loops, decision-making, graphics, and user-defined functions Creative thinking and scientific theories, covering the Ancients, the Renaissance, Galileo, Newton, electricity and magnetism, and newer sciences Uncertainty and softer science, covering random number generators, statistical analysis of data, the method of least squares, and state/velocity estimators Flight simulators, covering the motion of an aircraft, the equations of motion, short period pitching motion, and phugoid motion Established engineers and programmers, along with students and academics in related programs of study, can harness the comprehensive information in Computer Models of Process Dynamics to gain mastery over the subject and be ready to use their knowledge in many practical applications in the field.
