Book GAMMA RAY REFLECTION FACTORS FROM CONCRETE

Download or read book GAMMA RAY REFLECTION FACTORS FROM CONCRETE written by and published by . This book was released on 1963 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: By means of the differential dose albedo formula, the field from a point source of gamma radiation near a concrete-air interface is mapped for those conditions in which the distances involved are larger than a meanfree-path in concrete but substantially smaller than a mean-free-path in air. Once the parameters for the albedo formula are selected, the computation of reflection factors can be carried out to any desired degree of accuracy. Computational errors are kept to substantially less than 5% of the resulting output values. (C.E.S.).

Book Differential Dose Albedos for Calculation of Gamma ray Reflection from Concrete

Download or read book Differential Dose Albedos for Calculation of Gamma ray Reflection from Concrete written by M. B. Wells and published by . This book was released on 1964 with total page 55 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Differential dose albedos for gamma ray reflection from concrete were derived from Monte Carlo calculations of gamma ray scattering in air and concrete for source energies of 0.6, 1, 2, 4, and 7 Mev. Curves showing the albedo for reflection in the plane of incidence are presented for angles of incidence of *c = 0DG, 30DG, 45DG, 60DG, and 75DG. At incident energies greater than 2 Mev the computed dose albedos are smaller than those reported by Raso (also based on Monte Carlo) and those given by the Chilton-Huddleston formula. However, comparisons with experimental data for Cs-137 and Co-60 gamma rays reported by Jones, Schofield, Haggmark, and Gurney of USNRDL, C. E. Clifford of DRCL, and Barrett and Waldman of Technical Operations, Inc., indicate that the calculated albedos for these sources agree as well with the experimental data as do calculations based either on the Chilton-Huddleston formula or Raso's Monte Carlo calculations.

Book Barrier Attenuation of Air scattered Gamma Radiation

Download or read book Barrier Attenuation of Air scattered Gamma Radiation written by Zolin G. Burson and published by . This book was released on 1965 with total page 96 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Additional measurements at this same location were made to determine: (1) the skyshine dose rate as a function of distance from a cobalt-60 source placed on an air-ground interface: (2) the geometry factor describing a detector response to scattered gamma rays at the air-ground interface from a point isotropic cobalt-60 source on the ground 100 ft away; and (3) lip scatter and wall backscatter corrections for a detector in an open hole exposed to skyshine radiation from cobalt-60. The results apply to a variation of shielding problems. One practical application is the shielding provided by basement roofs and exposed basement walls from skyshine radiation originating from fallout.

Book Engineering Compendium on Radiation Shielding

Download or read book Engineering Compendium on Radiation Shielding written by International Atomic Energy Agency and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 551 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The need has arisen for a comprehensive handbook for engineers faced with problems of radiation shielding design. Although there are several excellent books on shielding, they either do not give enough consideration to the many practical design problems, or are limited to special aspects of the subject. Recognizing the universal need, the International Atomic Energy Agency decided to sponsor the publication ofthe present Engineering Compendium on Radiation Shield ing. At the first editorial discussions it was agreed that, if such a book were to be undertaken, it would be appropriate not only to create a useful design tool for the practising engineer but also to include well-referenced basic data for the research worker. Although trying to keep the book down to a reasonable size, the editors have aimed at a complete presentation of the subject, covering and linking both the tech nology and the science of shielding. Efforts to make terms and definitions consistent throughout have been only partially successful, owing to the continuing development of new ideas. However, inconsisten cies that could not be eliminated are identified whenever possible.
