Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Gain by Loss: Or the Garment of Praise Lord's mindfulness in times of illness is revealed by this gentle hiding of the future. He does not let us see the length and rough ness of the way all at once, and at every step He grants a blessing. This assertion leads me back to your ques tion regarding the blessings and trials of ill ness. Before we consider them, I pause to note the complex nature of illness. If received merely with reference to ourselves, it becomes purely private property. I mean, the lessons it teaches, and the blessings it brings, are simply of personal value. In a certain sense it is meant to thus develop in dividual grace, faith, patience and holiness. But this personal element is not meant to stamp out affection, feeling and all the sweet emotions of love among friends and relatives. Book In Their Pain Great Women of the Bible

Download or read book In Their Pain Great Women of the Bible written by Erika Grey and published by Erika Grey. This book was released on 2021-03-04 with total page 94 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: If you are a woman suffering from any kind of emotional pain, this book is for you. We live in a world that regards pain as a part of life that must be prevented at all costs. The pharmaceutical industry sells pills that attempt to eliminate any kind of suffering you might feel including emotional. The church also has followed this path and teaches that if you are not joyful you are not living your Christian life to the fullest. This book debunks this misconception by examining the lives of the great women of the Bible. It brings to light the traumas and losses that are the most devastating as revealed in Scripture. It makes plain how God recognizes suffering and provides consolation, miracles, and restoration. In addition, you will see “affliction” as part of His greater purpose. Moreover, what you can expect from the Lord if you stay close to Him to help encourage you in your brokenness. Finally, this work provides the key to your deliverance from total despair.

Book To Live Is Christ to Die Is Gain

Download or read book To Live Is Christ to Die Is Gain written by Matt Chandler and published by David C Cook. This book was released on 2013-09-01 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Using Paul's radical letter to the Philippians as his road map, Matt Chandler forsakes the trendy to invite readers into authentic Christian maturity. The short book of Philippians is one of the most quoted in the Bible, yet Paul wrote it not for the popular sound bites, but to paint a picture of a mature Christian faith. While many give their lives to Jesus, few then go on to live a life of truly vibrant faith. In this disruptively inspiring book, Chandler offers tangible ways to develop a faith of pursuing, chasing, knowing, and loving Jesus. Because if we clean up our lives but don't get Jesus, we've lost! So let the goal be Him. To live is Christ, to die is gain—this is the message of the letter. Therefore, our lives should be lived to Him, through Him, for Him, with Him, about Him—everything should be about Jesus.

Book excerpt: A choice lies before you: Either waste your life or live with risk. Either sit on the sidelines or get in the game. After all, life was no cakewalk for Jesus, and he didn't promise it would be any easier for his followers. We shouldn't be surprised by resistance and persecution. Yet most of us play it safe. We pursue comfort. We spend ourselves to get more stuff. And we prefer to be entertained. We are all tempted by the idea of security, the possibility of a cozy Christianity with no hell at the end. But what kind of life is that really? It's a far cry from adventurous and abundant, from truly rich and really full, and it's certainly not the heights and the depths Jesus calls us to. Discover in these pages a foundation for fearlessness. Hear God's promise to go with you into the unknown. And let Risk Is Right help you see the joys of a faith-filled and seriously rewarding life of Jesus-dependent abandon! Risk Is Right is a significantly expanded version of a chapter previously published in the book Don't Waste Your Life (chapter 5).

Book Nagarjuna s Advice for Buddhists

Download or read book Nagarjuna s Advice for Buddhists written by Lhundub Sopa and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2023-03-14 with total page 427 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "A Letter to a Friend stands out among Nāgārjuna's works because of its minimal philosophical content and limited discussion of Mahayana practices. A Letter to a Friend is a comprehensive yet brief summary of the basic ideas and practices that form the substrate for all forms Buddhism: in other words, the text outlines the practices common to the Hinayana-more respectfully called the Śrāvakayāna-and the Mahayana in both its Sutrayana and Vajrayana forms. In that regard, it can be seen as a very early precursor of the presentation of the graduated path to awakening in a single text developed centuries later by Atiśa (circa 982-1055), and expanded in Tibet by the master Je Tsongkhapa (1357-1419). Geshe Sopa was an exemplary Buddhist monk practitioner as well as a superlative scholar. His quiet and compassionate traditionalism drew people in; he did not blast people with charisma. He was a recognized master of his tradition and also knew how to reach a contemporary audience. His teachings on A Letter to a Friend roughly follow the commentary written by Rendawa Shonu Lodro (1349-1412). However, he added much, much more. He brought in additional material from many sources: the sutras, other texts by Nāgārjuna, works by great Indian masters such as Śāntideva, Āryadeva, Candrakīrti, Vasubhandu and others, and from multiple works by Je Tsongkhapa.15 Although Nāgārjuna's text primarily teaches the common path with little emphasis on philosophy, Geshe Sopa's explanation supplements it to teach the Mahayana path and Madhyamaka philosophy"--
