Book Wishram Texts and Ethnography

Download or read book Wishram Texts and Ethnography written by William Bright and published by Walter de Gruyter. This book was released on 2010-12-14 with total page 521 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The works of Edward Sapir (1884 - 1939) continue to provide inspiration to all interested in the study of human language. Since most of his published works are relatively inaccessible, and valuable unpublished material has been found, the preparation of a complete edition of all his published and unpublished works was long overdue. The wide range of Sapir's scholarship as well as the amount of work necessary to put the unpublished manuscripts into publishable form pose unique challenges for the editors. Many scholars from a variety of fields as well as American Indian language specialists are providing significant assistance in the making of this multi-volume series.

Book Emergent Computation

    Book Details:
  • Author : Matthew Simon
  • Publisher : Springer Science & Business Media
  • Release : 2005-01-07
  • ISBN : 9780387220468
  • Pages : 450 pages

Download or read book Emergent Computation written by Matthew Simon and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2005-01-07 with total page 450 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Emergent Computation is concerned with recent applications of Mathematical Linguistics or Automata Theory. This subject has a primary focus upon "Bioinformatics" (the Genome and arising interest in the Proteome), but the closing chapter also examines applications in Biology, Medicine, Anthropology, etc. The book is composed of an organized examination of DNA, RNA, and the assembly of amino acids into proteins. Rather than examine these areas from a purely mathematical viewpoint (that excludes much of the biochemical reality), the author uses scientific papers written mostly by biochemists based upon their laboratory observations. Thus while DNA may exist in its double stranded form, triple stranded forms are not excluded. Similarly, while bases exist in Watson-Crick complements, mismatched bases and abasic pairs are not excluded, nor are Hoogsteen bonds. Just as there are four bases naturally found in DNA, the existence of additional bases is not ignored, nor amino acids in addition to the usual complement of 20. Can there be more than "64" possible codons? RNA is examined from the point of view of Nussinov plots. All information is presented from the point of view of regular, context-free, and context sensitive languages, as well as Turing machines and Sequential Machines (and their corresponding semi-groups). Relationships to other subjects of mathematics such as Complex numbers, Quaternions, Algebraic-Topology, and Knot Theory are also mentioned. An examination is made of Splicing Systems as well as Dominoes. Shortcomings illustrating the dangers of mathematical abstractions that ignore biochemistry are pointed out. The papers examine the subjects of interest from the point of view of applying language theory to search for new results, but also as biological-automatons (implementations or machines) to do calculations. This book will be of value to those studying Bioinformatics, Biochemistry, Computer-Science, Mathematical Linguistics, and Biology, as well as Pharmacology (with the possible promise of medically active artificial DNA, RNA, and proteins). Laboratory results to demonstrate the usefulness of the topics discussed are demonstrated both in vitro and in vivo.

Book The Molecular Fabric of Cells

Download or read book The Molecular Fabric of Cells written by BIOTOL and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 317 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Knowledge of the molecules which make up cells not only provides the basis upon which an understanding of cell function may be developed, but also provides the knowledge needed to manipulate and purify chemicals. The text therefore holds an important and key position in both applied biology and biotechnology.

Book Applied Molecular Biology

Download or read book Applied Molecular Biology written by Chao-Hung Lee and published by Airiti Press. This book was released on 2015-05-01 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Even though molecular biology has long been a basic tool in biomedical research, scientists still face the question of why certain molecular biology methods are used for certain experiments. To unlock the mystery, one must first understand the principles behind the methods. Unfortunately, very few molecular biology books have successfully provided satisfactory explanations. This book intends to fill this void by offering topics ranging from basic knowledge to the current state of the art in applied molecular biology. The principles and applications related to each technique included in the text are all described in full detail.

Book US Withholding Tax

Download or read book US Withholding Tax written by Ross McGill and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2019-09-10 with total page 412 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The US QI and FATCA regulations came into being in 2001 and 2010 respectively. They remain today the most challenging cross border tax regulations for financial institutions to comply with and operationalise. There is an increasing trend for financial institutions to become QIs while at the same time, the rules of the QI program become more complex and onerous. Equally, most NQIs have little idea that they are subject to these extra-territorial regulations. The US FATCA anti-tax evasion framework has also evolved through the development of intergovernmental agreements. These are complex and bilaterally jurisdiction specific as well as of multiple types. Most firms are struggling to understand the concepts and how FATCA rules overlap and are affected by QI rules. The original book on this subject by the author continues to be the only book able to explain these regulations in ways that allow financial institutions to understand their compliance obligations and take practical steps to meet them, by hearing about best practice. This second edition builds on the basic framework of the QI and FATCA frameworks by updating the text to encompass the changes that have occurred since the book’s original publication. This edition will also delete material that has become obsolete or was proposed by the IRS originally but never implemented.

Download or read book Satellite DNA written by Thengiz Beridze and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 160 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The organization of genomes in higher organisms has been studied extensively in recent years. With current achievements in gene engineering, it seems quite realistic that they will be specifically modified in the nearest future to produce new, economi cally valuable forms of animals and plants. The success of these experiments will depend greatly on the level of our knowledge of the structural features of plant and animal DNAs. Comparative studies of DNA from different organisms began with discovery of its genetic significance in the late 1950's. A few years later it was found that nuclear DNA, the main storage of genetic information,~an consist of several fractions differ ing in some physical and chemical properties. Along with the "major" DNA, bearing the main load during the genotype functioning, the so-called satellite DNAs were discovered. T. G. Beridze, the author of this book, is one of the pioneers in the study of these extraordinary DNAs. The results of his experiments with plant satellite DNAs have essentially influenced the formation of our current ideas on their structure and prop erties.
