Download or read book Generalized Riemann Problems in Computational Fluid Dynamics written by Matania Ben-Artzi and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2003-04-10 with total page 370 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Numerical simulation of compressible, inviscid time-dependent flow is a major branch of computational fluid dynamics. Its primary goal is to obtain accurate representation of the time evolution of complex flow patterns, involving interactions of shocks, interfaces, and rarefaction waves. The Generalized Riemann Problem (GRP) algorithm, developed by the authors for this purpose, provides a unifying 'shell' which comprises some of the most commonly used numerical schemes of this process. This monograph gives a systematic presentation of the GRP methodology, starting from the underlying mathematical principles, through basic scheme analysis and scheme extensions (such as reacting flow or two-dimensional flows involving moving or stationary boundaries). An array of instructive examples illustrates the range of applications, extending from (simple) scalar equations to computational fluid dynamics. Background material from mathematical analysis and fluid dynamics is provided, making the book accessible to both researchers and graduate students of applied mathematics, science and engineering.

Download or read book DoD Digital Modernization Strategy written by Department of Defense and published by . This book was released on 2019-07-12 with total page 74 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The global threat landscape is constantly evolving and remaining competitive and modernizing our digital environment for great power competition is imperative for the Department of Defense. We must act now to secure our future. This Digital Modernization Strategy is the cornerstone for advancing our digital environment to afford the Joint Force a competitive advantage in the modern battlespace. Our approach is simple. We will increase technological capabilities across the Department and strengthen overall adoption of enterprise systems to expand the competitive space in the digital arena. We will achieve this through four strategic initiatives: innovation for advantage, optimization, resilient cybersecurity, and cultivation of talent. The Digital Modernization Strategy provides a roadmap to support implementation of the National Defense Strategy lines of effort through the lens of cloud, artificial intelligence, command, control and communications and cybersecurity. This approach will enable increased lethality for the Joint warfighter, empower new partnerships that will drive mission success, and implement new reforms enacted to improve capabilities across the information enterprise. The strategy also highlights two important elements that will create an enduring and outcome driven strategy. First, it articulates an enterprise view of the future where more common foundational technology is delivered across the DoD Components. Secondly, the strategy calls for a Management System that drives outcomes through a metric driven approach, tied to new DoD CIO authorities granted by Congress for both technology budgets and standards. As we modernize our digital environment across the Department, we must recognize now more than ever the importance of collaboration with our industry and academic partners. I expect the senior leaders of our Department, the Services, and the Joint Warfighting community to take the intent and guidance in this strategy and drive implementation to achieve results in support of our mission to Defend the Nation.

Book excerpt: "When Jonas Salk founded his eponymous research center for biological studies in 1960, he envisioned a humanist, nearly monastic community of scientists devoted to the prevention and cure of disease. In architect Louis I. Kahn, Salk found a kindred spirit, and together the two created one of the great masterpieces of modern architecture - in Salk's words, "a work of art to serve the work of science."" "Charged by Salk to "invite Picasso to the laboratory," Kahn responded with a series of austere, spiritual spaces for the complex, which was set on a coastal site in the San Diego, California suburb of La Jolla. Kahn's design integrated commodious laboratory and study spaces while offering lush gardens for reflection and the now-famous courtyard with its transcendent perspective of the Pacific Ocean. Interlocking volumes unfold time and space throughout Kahn's bravura orchestration of concrete construction." "In this volume, acclaimed architectural photographer Ezra Stoller, whose images of the Salk Institute have become iconic themselves, captures the timeless grandeur of this unique monument to scientific understanding and artistic achievement."--BOOK JACKET.Title Summary field provided by Blackwell North America, Inc. Download or read book A strong Britain in an age of uncertainty written by Great Britain: Cabinet Office and published by The Stationery Office. This book was released on 2010-10-18 with total page 44 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The national security strategy of the United Kingdom is to use all national capabilities to build Britain's prosperity, extend the country's influence in the world and strengthen security. The National Security Council ensures a strategic and co-ordinated approach across the whole of Government to the risks and opportunities the country faces. Parts 1 and 2 of this document outline the Government's analysis of the strategic global context and give an assessment of the UK's place in the world. They also set out the core objectives of the strategy: (i) ensuring a secure and resilient UK by protecting the country from all major risks that can affect us directly, and (ii) shaping a stable world - actions beyond the UK to reduce specific risks to the country or our direct interests overseas. Part 3 identifies and analyses the key security risks the country is likely to face in the future. The National Security Council has prioritised the risks and the current highest priority are: international terrorism; cyber attack; international military crises; and major accidents or natural hazards. Part 4 describes the ways in which the strategy to prevent and mitigate the specific risks will be achieved. The detailed means to achieve these ends will be set out in the Strategic Defence and Security Review (Cm. 7948, ISBN 9780101794824), due to publish on 19 October 2010.
