Book Future Ee Linear Colliders and Beam beam Effects

Download or read book Future Ee Linear Colliders and Beam beam Effects written by and published by . This book was released on 1986 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Numerous concepts, ranging from conventional to highly exotic, hae been proposed for the acceleration of electrons and positrons to very high energies. For any such concept to be viable, it must be possible to produce from it a set of consistent parameters for one of these ''benchmark'' machines. Attention is directed to the choice of parameters for a collider in the 300 GeV energy range, operating at a gradient on the order of 200 MV/m, using X-band power sources to drive a conventional disk-loaded accelerating structure. These rf power sources, while not completely conventional represent a reasonable extrapolation from present technology. The choice of linac parameters is strongly coupled to various beam-beam effects which take place when the electron and positron bunches collide. We summarize these beam-beam effects, and then return to the rf design of a 650 GeV center-of-mass collider. 14 refs.

Book Suppressing Electron Cloud in Future Linear Colliders

Download or read book Suppressing Electron Cloud in Future Linear Colliders written by R. E. Kirby and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page 5 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Any accelerator circulating positively charged beams can suffer from a build-up of an electron cloud (EC) in the beam pipe. The cloud develops through ionization of residual gases, synchrotron radiation and secondary electron emission and, when severe, can cause instability, emittance blow-up or loss of the circulating beam. The electron cloud is potentially a luminosity limiting effect for both the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) and the International Linear Collider (ILC). For the ILC positron damping ring, the development of the electron cloud must be suppressed. This paper discusses the state-of-the-art of the ongoing SLAC and international R & D program to study potential remedies.

Book Quantum Suppression of Beamstrahlung for Future Linearcolliders

Download or read book Quantum Suppression of Beamstrahlung for Future Linearcolliders written by and published by . This book was released on 1998 with total page 5 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Beamstrahhmg at interaction point may present severe lim- itations on linear collider performance. The approach to re- duce this effect adopted for all current designs at 0.5 TeV will become more difficult and less effective at higher en- ergy. We discuss the feasibility of an alternative approach, based on an effect known as quantum suppression of beam- strahlung, for future linear colliders at multi-TeV energy.

Book High Frequency Planar Accelerating Structures for Future Linear Colliders

Download or read book High Frequency Planar Accelerating Structures for Future Linear Colliders written by and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Modern microfabrication techniques based on deep etch x-ray lithography (LIGA) can be used to produce large-aspect-ratio, metallic or dielectric, planar structures suitable for high-frequency RF acceleration of charged particle beams. Specifically, these techniques offer significant advantages over conventional manufacturing methods for future linear colliders (beyond NLC, the Next Linear Collider) because of several unique systems requirements. First, to have the required ac ''wall plug'' power within reasonable limits, such future linear colliders (≥ 5TeV) must operate at high frequency (≥ 30GHz). This implies the need of a large number of intricate accelerating structures with ever smaller dimensions and extremely tight manufacturing tolerances, imposing new challenges in mass-production, precision fabrication techniques. Microfabrication is particularly suitable for meeting this need. Secondly, luminosity requirements suggest the use of multi-bunch acceleration of electrons and positrons in the linear collider. In order for these schemes to accelerate low-emittance beams over a long distance, it is important that the wakefield effects be reduced to a minimum in the accelerating structure. Asymmetric planar structures have more geometric degrees of freedom than cylindrically symmetric structures. In addition to detuning, these can be utilized to further reduce the wakefields. Thirdly, in order to clearly discriminate physics events in the final interaction point at which electrons and positrons collide, it is required that secondary particle production from beamstrahlung be minimized. Flat electron and positron beams with a large aspect ratio will be beneficial in reducing beamstrahlung in the final focus region, but cause the beam to be more sensitive to wakefields in the vertical dimension. In principle, a flat beam can be accelerated in a planar structure with reduced wakefield in the vertical direction for the entire length of the accelerator.

Book Future Of High Energy Physics The Some Aspects

Download or read book Future Of High Energy Physics The Some Aspects written by Luis Roberto Flores Castillo and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2017-02-20 with total page 333 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The monumental discovery of the Higgs boson at the LHC marked the beginning of a new era in the high energy physics. Although the particle spectrum of the Standard Model is now complete with the Higgs boson, the hierarchy problem and the lack of explanation of the origin of dark matter imply that a new Beyond the Standard Model physics should exist. There is however no clear indication (experimental or otherwise) of the energy scale at which this new physics should appear. Current results from the LHC experiments have shown no unpredicted effects up to pp collision energies of 13 TeV. If not observed directly at the LHC, the new physics may reveal itself through deviations of Higgs properties from their Standard Model expectations, or it may become directly accessible only at new, higher-energy accelerator facilities. It is then of primary importance to have a comprehensive review of the available and planned accelerators and their design, physics motivation and expected performance. This book comprises 26 carefully edited articles with well-referenced and up-to-date material written by many of the leading experts. These articles — originated from presentations and dialogues at the second HKUST Institute for Advanced Study Program on High Energy Physics — are organized into three aspects, Theory, Accelerator, and Experiment, focusing on in-depth analyses and technical aspects that are essential for the developments and expectations for the future high energy physics.

Book Electron Lenses for Super Colliders

Download or read book Electron Lenses for Super Colliders written by Vladimir D. Shiltsev and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-11-20 with total page 199 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a comprehensive overview of the operating principles and technology of electron lenses in supercolliders. Electron lenses are a novel instrument for high energy particle accelerators, particularly for the energy-frontier superconducting hadron colliders, including the Tevatron, RHIC, LHC and future very large hadron colliders. After reviewing the issues surrounding beam dynamics in supercolliders, the book offers an introduction to the electron lens method and its application. Further chapters describe the technology behind the electron lenses which have recently been proposed, built and employed for compensation of beam-beam effects and for collimation of high-energy high-intensity beams, for compensation of space-charge effects and several other applications in accelerators. The book will be an invaluable resource for those involved in the design, construction and operation of the next generation of hadron colliders.

Book Simulations on Pair Creation from Beam beam Interaction in Linear Colliders

Download or read book Simulations on Pair Creation from Beam beam Interaction in Linear Colliders written by and published by . This book was released on 1991 with total page 4 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It has been recognized that ee− pair creation during the collision of intense beams in linear colliders will cause potential background problems for high energy experiments. Detailed knowledge of the angular-momentum spectrum of these low energy pairs is essential to the design of the interaction region. In this paper, we modify the computer code ABEL (Analysis of Beam-beam Effects in Linear colliders) to include the pair creation processes, using the equivalent photon approximation. Special care has been taken on the non-local nature of the virtual photon exchanges. The simulation results are then compared with known analytic formulas, and applied to the next generation colliders such as JLC. 10 refs., 2 figs.

Book Ions in the Linacs of Future Linear Colliders

Download or read book Ions in the Linacs of Future Linear Colliders written by and published by . This book was released on 1992 with total page 3 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ions have been identified as a potential limitation in high current storage rings, but they are not usually thought to be a problem in electron linear accelerators. In this paper, we consider the effects of ions in the linacs of future linear colliders. Future linear collider designs call for long trains of closely spaced bunches and/or very dense bunches. Thus, significant ion densities can be generated through the collisional ionization process and ''trapping'' in a long train of bunches or through the tunneling ionization with very dense bunches. We consider two principal effects of these ions: first, they provide skew fields which cause transverse betatron coupling and increase the vertical emittance of the flat beams, and, second, the ion fields increase the rate of filamentation, making correction of the emittance dilutions more difficult; this could lead to tighter alignment tolerances. Both of these effects are verified with simulations. We will not consider other potential limitations that the ions impose. We will consider these effects in four illustrative linear collider designs: the NLC, the old NLC design, the DESY S-band design, and the Russian design, VLEPP.

Book Future Perspectives In High Energy Physics Proceedings Of The 1990 Icfa Seminars

Download or read book Future Perspectives In High Energy Physics Proceedings Of The 1990 Icfa Seminars written by N E Tyurin and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1991-08-12 with total page 452 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is devoted to the quickly developing area of high intensity particle beam physics. Beam emittance growth, halo formation and chaotic particle motion are the main areas of research in the new intense particle accelerators. Knowledge of those phenomena is crucial for the design of particle accelerators with space-charge dominated beams. This important book provides a new, self-consistent description of high brightness particle beams with essentially nonlinear space-charge forces. The emphasis is on the proper matching of the beam with focusing and accelerating structures to suppress beam emittance growth and halo formation. The book will be useful for researchers and engineers dealing with space-charge dominated beams and for graduate and undergraduate students who are starting to work in this field.
