Book Mies Van Der Rohe Furniture and Interiors

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The texts were written by a single person (complemented by a report from a user), the photographs, reproduced in duotone, all come from the same lens using an approach repeated again and again. Both attempt to show the objective state of affairs of Mies van der Rohe's solitary buildings with carefully collected and organized materials. An inner confrontation over decades opened up access to Mies' oeuvre for Werner Blaser, and thus, to this publication." "The legacy of Mies van der Rohe's most fruitful intentions is thus visually assessed with in part unpublished picture material. Those with a more critical attitude should also be creatively confronted with the roots of good architecture through the intensity of the presentation, which will hopefully provide new stimulus."--BOOK JACKET.

Book Mies Van Der Rohe

Download or read book Mies Van Der Rohe written by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe and published by Skira. This book was released on 1998 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mies van der Rohe ranks alongside Frank Lloyd Wright and Le Corbusier as one of the most influential and important architects of our century. He was not only an accomplished and groundbreaking architect but also a first-rate, long-term lecturer and organiser of architectural events. It is thanks to his most important European building projects, the German pavilion for the Barcelona World Fair (1929) and the Villa Tugendhat in Brno that modern architecture was able to emerge from his experimental phase into full maturity. This book documents Mies van der Rohe's oeuvre as furniture designer and architect in the context of his three major European projects in Stuttgart, Barcelona, Brno.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: German architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe is, without doubt, one of the pioneering masters of modern architecture. The modern city, with its towers of glass and steel, can be at least in part attributed to his influence. Equally significant, if smaller in scale, is Mies’ daring design of furniture, pieces that exhibit an unerring sense of proportion, as well as minimalist forms and exquisitely refined details. After an apprenticeship with furniture designer Bruno Paul in Berlin, he joined the office of architect Peter Behrens where he met Le Corbusier and Walther Gropius. In the mid-1920s, he began to design furniture, pieces that he conceived and created for particular interiors. Mies van der Rohe’s furniture is known for fine craftsmanship, a mix of traditional luxurious fabrics (like leather) combined with modern chrome frames, and a distinct separation of the supporting structure and the supported surfaces. His modern furniture pieces using new industrial technologies, like the Barcelona chair and table (1929), and the Brno chair (1930), have become acclaimed icons of twentieth-century design.

Book Mies van der Rohe

Download or read book Mies van der Rohe written by Franz Schulze and published by University of Chicago Press. This book was released on 2012-11-01 with total page 507 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An “excellent” new edition of the definitive biography of the architectural genius, with more than a hundred photos (Booklist, starred review). Upon publication, this book was praised by the Chicago Tribune and “the most comprehensive book ever written about the master designer and, by any measure, the best,” while the Christian Science Monitor noted that “Schulze has both the gift of an architectural historian able to render Mies’s building innovations and that of a biographer able to paint the humanity and shortcomings of the man.” Newsweek called it “a revelation.” Now, this biography of the iconic modernist architect and designer has been extensively updated, providing an even more enlightening and intimate portrait of a man who helped to create the twentieth century world. “This excellent revised edition…has 138 illustrations, incisive descriptions of Mies’ innovative creations and a fascinating account of his Pyrrhic victory in a lawsuit against his disaffected client Edith Farnsworth.”—Booklist (starred review) “This authoritative biography of Mies van der Rohe has been updated through building records, the recollections of students and a court transcript. It's a gripping read.”—Christopher Woodward, Building Design
