Book Fundamentals of Integrated Vehicle Realization

Download or read book Fundamentals of Integrated Vehicle Realization written by Mohamed El-Sayed and published by SAE International. This book was released on 2017-09-25 with total page 306 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fundamentals of Integrated Vehicle Realization is a unique and solid contribution to the subject of product development, centered on the automotive industry. Automotive manufacturers and suppliers are under pressure to transform themselves and deliver a higher level of product refinement coupled with more functionality. This could lead to the sprouting of organizational structures not in alignment with the required product development phases. Consequently, many product development initiatives may be cancelled or dropped at later stages despite all the efforts and financial investments. Therefore, it is vital that organizational unity be always intact during any transformation. A highly effective organization should always act as one cohesive entity dedicated to serving the customer with creative aptitude, integrative skills, analytical thinking, and synergistic management. Written by Dr. Mohamed El-Sayed, director of the School of Engineering Technology at Eastern Michigan University, Fundamentals of Integrated Vehicle Realization addresses an essential need for deep knowledge in the realm of vehicle development process, from idealization to market launch. The book covers realization process phases, process and vehicle characteristics and attributes, front-end innovation, virtual and physical realization, among other topics.

Book Integrated Vehicle Health Management

Download or read book Integrated Vehicle Health Management written by Ian K Jennions and published by SAE International. This book was released on 2013-09-25 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Integrated Vehicle Health Management (IVHM) is a relatively new subject, with its roots back in the space sector of the early 1990s. Although many of the papers written around that time did not refer to it as IVHM, the fundamental principles of considering an integrated end-to-end system to monitor the overall health of the asset were clearly visible. As the subject of Integrated Vehicle Health Management (IVHM) and its associated technologies have grown up, businesses are making the transformation from selling a product to selling a service. This can be viewed as a positive disruption, as a relatively small technology breakthrough is being brought to market for a large business benefit. The sequence “sense—acquire—transfer—analyze—act “ feeds the information (processed data) on the asset’s health into the Operations or Management control center. Here, decisions can be made on maintenance actions with knowledge of the supply chain status, MRO loading, etc., provided by Maintenance and Logistics systems. Undoubtedly, a much more efficient and economical modus operandi. This book brings together a collection of twenty –two SAE International Technical papers on this very theme, organized according to specific areas of interest: • Engines • Airframes • Electrical Power Systems • Supporting Systems • Architecture They were selected by Dr. Ian K. Jennions, Director of IVHM Center at Cranfield University, in the UK. Dr. Jennions was also the editor of three other books on Integrated Vehicle Health Management, published by SAE International: • IVHM: Perspectives on an Emerging Field • IVHM: Business Case Theory and Practice • IVHM: The Technology

Book excerpt: "This is the third book SAE has published on IVHM. The scope of this book was to return to the, now familiar, taxonomy and investigate each of the broad theme areas of IVHM in more detail. The aim was to provide a bridge between the introduction to the subject, covered in the first book, and technical papers describing new work. This book is basically in three parts: the technology chapters (2-9), then the Applications chapter (10), before the Emerging Technologies (11). The contributions made in these sections are now summarized in this order, before drawing the book to its conclusion"-Provided by publisher.

Book Aerospace Sensors

Download or read book Aerospace Sensors written by Alexander Nebylov and published by Momentum Press. This book was released on 2012-11-20 with total page 378 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Modern air and space craft demand a huge variety of sensing elements for detecting and controlling their behavior and operation. These sensors often differ significantly from those designed for applications in automobile, ship, railway, and other forms of transportation, and those used in industrial, chemical, medical, and other areas. This book offers insight into an appropriate selection of these sensors and describes their principles of operation, design, and achievable performance along with particulars of their construction. Drawn from the activities of the International Federation of Automatic Control (IFAC), especially its Aerospace Technical Committee, the book provides details on the majority of sensors for aircraft and many for spacecraft, satellites, and space probes. It is written by an international team of twelve authors representing four countries from Eastern and Western Europe and North America, all with considerable experience in aerospace sensor and systems design. Highlights include: • coverage of aerospace vehicle classification, specific design criteria, and the requirements of onboard systems and sensors; • reviews of airborne flight parameter sensors, weather sensors and collision avoidance devices; • discussions on the important role of inertial navigation systems (INS) and separate gyroscopic sensors for aerospace vehicle navigation and motion control; • descriptions of engine parameter information collection systems, including fuel quantity and consumption sensors, pressure pick-ups, tachometers, vibration control, and temperature sensors; and • descriptions and examples of sensor integration.
