En las actividades escolares, un 90% de la información que se recibe es visual, llegando hasta un 100% en las tareas de lectura. Según recientes estudios, el porcentaje de fracaso escolar es cada vez más elevado. En la población infantil, los problemas de aprendizaje alcanzan valores del 11%, siendo un 80% debido a problemas de procesamiento visual y un 60% a trastornos de audición y emocionales. Este procesamiento visual no sólo implica una buena agudeza visual, sino que requiere considerar todas aquellas habilidades que, durante el desarrollo del sistema visual, afecten a su aprendizaje, como son: motilidad ocular, coordinación ojo-mano, percepción, mantenimiento de la atención, memoria visual,... Estas habilidades están íntimamente ligadas en el proceso lector, por lo que cualquier disfunción en alguna de ellas repercutirá directamente sobre la lectura. El presente libro propone, en el ámbito de la mejora del rendimiento lector, la realización en la clase de un tratamiento en forma de modelos de ejercicios visuales dirigido al maestro de aula consistente en una serie de juegos y ejercicios visuales que incidan positivamente en la mejora de la comprensión y velocidad lectora y en un aumento del número de movimientos visuales que el alumno/a realizan por segundo. En el primer capítulo se revisa la fisiología ocular basada en la neurología y las bases psicológicas de la percepción visual y su relación con los procesos de decodificación lectora. En el segundo capítulo se recoge la clasificación de los diferentes músculos oculares y la importancia de la motilidad en el rendimiento lector, haciendo un especial apartado a las disfunciones y parálisis de los músculos oculares por considerar un factor determinante en los procesos de lectura y escritura. En el tercer capítulo se ha tratado de reflejar los movimientos oculares y las habilidades visuales importantes en el desarrollo del aprendizaje de la lectura y su implicación en el Sistema Nervioso Central. Estableciendo una clasificación de estos movimientos que se producen durante el proceso de decodificación y su relación con los procesos de conversión del grafema al fonema. El cuarto capítulo se dedica a la lectura y a las reglas de conversión del grafema al fonema. En este apartado quedan reflejados los principales modelos de lectura y las aportaciones de diferentes autores sobre las pautas pedagógicas adecuadas para proceder a la enseñanza de la lectura en los alumnos/as de Educación Primaria. Finalmente, en el quinto y último capítulo se explican los ejercicios visuales que inciden en la mejora del rendimiento lector como un programa de entrenamiento óculo- motor con una base lúdica que son susceptibles de aplicación práctica en el aula.

Providing much-needed historical contextualization to IIRSA’s agenda, Beyond the City ties together a series of spatial models and offers a survey of regional strategies in five case studies of often overlooked sites built outside the traditional South American urban constructs. Escobar offers a detailed ethnographic account of PCN’s visions, strategies, and practices, and he chronicles and analyzes the movement’s struggles for autonomy, territory, justice, and cultural recognition. Yet he also does much more. Consistently emphasizing the value of local activist knowledge for both understanding and social action and drawing on multiple strands of critical scholarship, Escobar proposes new ways for scholars and activists to examine and apprehend the momentous, complex processes engulfing regions such as the Colombian Pacific today. Escobar illuminates many interrelated dynamics, including the Colombian government’s policies of development and pluralism that created conditions for the emergence of black and indigenous social movements and those movements’ efforts to steer the region in particular directions. He examines attempts by capitalists to appropriate the rainforest and extract resources, by developers to set the region on the path of modernist progress, and by biologists and others to defend this incredibly rich biodiversity “hot-spot” from the most predatory activities of capitalists and developers. He also looks at the attempts of academics, activists, and intellectuals to understand all of these complicated processes. Territories of Difference is Escobar’s effort to think with Afro-Colombian intellectual-activists who aim to move beyond the limits of Eurocentric paradigms as they confront the ravages of neoliberal globalization and seek to defend their place-based cultures and territories.
