Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Despite being far from the norm, interracial relationships are more popular than ever. Racing Romance sheds special light on the bonds between whites and Asian Americans, an important topic that has not garnered well-deserved attention until now. Incorporating life-history narratives and interviews with those currently or previously involved with an interracial partner, Kumiko Nemoto addresses the contradictions and tensionsùa result of race, class, and genderùthat Asian Americans and whites experience. Similar to black/white relationships, stereotypes have long played crucial roles in Asian American/white encounters. Partners grapple with media representations of Asian women as submissive or hypersexual and Asian men are often portrayed as weak laborers or powerful martial artists. Racing Romance reveals how allegedly progressive interracial relationships remain firmly shaped by the logic of patriarchy and gender inherent to the ideal of marriage, family, and nation in America, even as this ideal is juxtaposed with discourses of multiculturalism and color blindness.

Book My Gawd and Other Stories

Download or read book My Gawd and Other Stories written by Fairbanks and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2018-03-22 with total page 202 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: My Gawd! and Other Stories by Fairbanksjust the one word, like Moses, like Prince. My Gawd! Is that allowed? Can you write that? If it was a film, it would be rated R: adults only. But not rated X by any means; this is not erotica. Thats the fun of the clever writing. Its fiction! It sometimes gets very close to the line, but then it backs off. There are only a couple of jolts in retrospect. Some stories have no sex at all. (Does sex between insects count?) This is a collection of thirteen short stories set out as one per month plus New Years. It is fun to take up the authors suggestion and read the last story first (and then again at the end). This tantalizing New Years story is written as a play, and the other one is a humorous narrative poem. The stories are full of interesting and varied charactersyoung, old, male, female, ordinary, eccentric, naughty, and nice. Settings include the authors backyard, Central Australia, other rural backgrounds, and Canberra. Each short story is different, holding the readers interest and moving along without dragging. There are no boring bits at all. There is poetry in the prose, touching descriptions of setting and character. Two of the stories are longer, giving the reader the chance to follow an interesting plot and the characters more fully. Watch out for the famous Fairbanks twist! Lots of marketing potential with this one! Put it on your bedside table and read one story a night for fun and for titillation. The next Fifty Shades? The naughty outback Aussies version. My gawd!

Book excerpt: This book is an Emotional Experience to Unleash Pain, Hope and Determination. When I wrote this book, the thought never occurred to me, that so many people shared similar, if not the same exact experiences as I. At first, it was very difficult for me to express in words, especially in writing, deep secrets that were embedded with shame, guilt and internal fears. Before divine intervention helped me understand that childhood hurts are just that- childhood hurts; I was continuously engulfed in a battle that raged war between my spirit, soul and body. If these hurts are left untreated or unaddressed, these childhood hurts have the potential of developing into an array of unwelcomed personality disorders, emotional problems and physical illnesses that interferes with one's education, relationships, finances and spirituality. Sadly, human behaviors are often altered by society ills, toxic environments and learned behaviors, which deepens internal conflicts. When a person recognizes that good is within them, they are able to see themselves differently. In order for many of us to move forward, we will have to journey back, a trip that goes far beyond one's immediate family, circumstances and painful memories. As recorded in Genesis, the journey oftentimes must go back to the footsteps of the first family; it is there, that one will find blame, guilt and shame, in the midst of paradise- a place of peace and love. It is here, where we can accept and understand the meaning of being created in God's image-to mirror His presence in the earth. Despite life adversities, you can live a victorious life by knowing that Christ is in control of your life. In this book, Mirrored Reflection, you will discover my personal pain and my personal determination to love and to be loved all embraced the Blessed Hope.

Book You ll Never Make a Hairdresser

Download or read book You ll Never Make a Hairdresser written by Russell Paul Hughes and published by Chipmunkapublishing ltd. This book was released on 2011-06-01 with total page 175 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Description'You'll never make a hairdresser' is an autobiography detailing the life of a young boy living on a deprived housing estate in Manchester and tracing his progression to the present day and the realisation of his dreams. The novel includes many humorous experiences; the loss of his virginity to a wheelchair bound client, mobile hairdressing within the housing estate representing the culture and lifestyle of all involved, down to the very poignant moments on the loss of a dearly loved sister to cancer at the age of just 37. The novel also explores the innermost thoughts and feeling of the author, not only his depression which resulted from the onset of epilepsy at the age of thirty but also on a deeply personal level when he realised that as a heterosexual husband and father he was living a lie. Following these revelations he embarks on a journey of discovery which finally leads him to the confident and fulfilled gay businessman he is today. About the AuthorRussell was born in 1966 and raised in Wythenshawe, South Manchester. Russell's hairdressing career began in the early 1980's but his dream of becoming a hairdresser began much earlier when he first visited a salon in Manchester at the age of 13. Never losing sight of his dream Russell broke away from the tradition of locally based factory work and began a journey of training and apprenticeships in salons throughout Manchester. By 21 Russell had opened his own salon 'The Crop Shop' in Hale, Cheshire and was finally realising the dream he had held onto throughout his youth. Russell moved to North Wales with his wife and children but continued to base his work in the vibrant city of Manchester where the hair industry and business opportunities were rapidly developing; and where he was able to maintain close family connections with his older siblings. In 1997 Russell was struck by tragedy when his dear sister Allyson died. His loss of the person he describes as 'a mother figure' left him so bereft that his life spiralled into turmoil. As severe depression and epilepsy took hold of him, Russell spent long periods of time hospitalised whilst everything which he had built in ruins. The illness he experienced would be life changing and lead to him losing everything that his life was built on; the last foundation being his marriage when Russell confronted his sexuality and openly admitted that as a heterosexual husband and father he was living a lie. A long and lonely period of recovery followed during which Russell struggled to not only build his own emotional and physical strength but to find a way back into the hairdressing industry and to re-establish himself as a successful business man. Russell remained based in North Wales throughout this difficult time undertaking a number of jobs in order to become self sufficient again. The salons and customers which have shaped Russell's hairdressing career span a period of almost 30 years and form the backdrop to his book, in which customer encounters are intertwined with the personal hurdles Russell overcome with bereavement, sexuality, depression, epilepsy and dyslexia; but throughout these challenging times Russell kept hold of his dream and his humour, and with the ability to reminisce in such a poised, yet entertaining way has enabled the creation of his first novel 'You'll Never Make A Hairdresser'. Russell now runs his own salon 'Russell Paul Hairdressing' based in Prestatyn, North Wales where he lives with his civil partner Jonathan.

Book Three Who Survived

Download or read book Three Who Survived written by Ann Stalcup and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2011-02-09 with total page 149 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book tells the stories of three child survivors of World War ll. One spent her childhood in England, the other two in Germany. Each of their stories is quite different. Pat was four-and-a-half when the war between Great Britain and Germany began on September 3, 1939, but it wasnt until she was seven that her family life in England changed drastically. For Hilda and Ursula, both born in Berlin, their worlds turned upside down on January 30, 1933, when Hitler was elected Chancellor of Germany. Hilda would be seven four months later; Ursula had just had her seventh birthday. All three children survived the war for different reasons and in different locations. One escaped Germany days before war was declared, one barely lived through a bombing raid in England, while the third survived a concentration camp. As young children, all three had wonderfully happy childhoods, childhoods that changed suddenly and unexpectedly for each of them when they were seven.

Perceived to be homosexual, and ridiculed for his effeminate characteristics, Blair struggles to find his personal and professional identity. A first foiled romance with a lesbian and several equivocal relationships with mature women, together with his initiation into a group of local mobsters, transform Fusco into a shrewd operator. After many adventures and vicissitudes, he becomes the prime suspect in the murder of his client/partner Robin Maxwell and her maid, Anne. Since Blair is the only suspect, and the police are unable to find the culprit, he is compelled to fight for his innocence. The young hairdresser pins his hopes on a few strands of hair found in one of the corpse's hands, which he believes came from a wig, and should hold a clue as to who murdered Robin. If Blair Fusco wants to exonerate himself and resolve the murders, he must find the culprit himself, unless he's willing to spend the rest of his days cutting hair in a penitentiary.
