Download or read book Full Gospel Fractured Minds written by Rick M. Nañez and published by Zondervan Academic. This book was released on 2010-02-23 with total page 276 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Do you sometimes feel you have to check your intellect at the church door, leaving reason behind to embrace the Christian faith? Do you hunger for a “full gospel” that includes the mind as well as heart and Spirit? Full Gospel, Fractured Minds? challenges charismatic and Pentecostal believers to discover the power of a well-maintained mind—a mind on fire—to match a heart on fire and to create a life that operates within the full counsel of God . Nañez shows how human reason helps us understand and interpret God’s Word as well as defend the gospel. He shows what the Bible teaches about the mind, and explores the backgrounds of nineteenth-century and modern culture, anti-intellectualism, Pentecostal history and beliefs, and popular misconceptions about human intellect in relation to the Christian faith. Full Gospel, Fractured Minds? helps men and women practice a Christian faith that reflects the whole person and the full gospel. “Rick Nañez calls Pentecostals and charismatics to seek a balance between mind and Spirit. This book will stir you to seek all that God has for you.” —From the Foreword by Stanley M. Horton, PhD

No. 5. god'S highest type of character for his people, and how to get it. This ideal has many characteristics; neither is it a mushroom growth, nor something that one may accidentally find. Of the vast number of the saved, we note the following classes: 1. Those who die in infancy, 2. Those who are saved without having any time or opportunity for growth (as the thief on the cross). 3. The class that are saved "so as by fire," (I. Cor. 3:15). 4. The class of dutiful servants who get a reward, (I. Cor. 3:14; Matt. 25:14-30). 5. The class represented by the wise virgins (Matt. 25:1-4), or the "virgins" the companions of the King's daughter, (Psa. 45:13-15). 6. The King's daughter, or bride of Christ, as represented in the full overcomers, who pass through the crucified life, "put off the old man," "put on the new man," "grow up into Him Christ in all things," and reach unto "the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ," (Eph. 4:13). This is the highest character brought to view in the word of God; and I. It may be well for us to hunt up the various elements that enter into this ideal. 1. The group found in the beatitudes, (Matt. 5:3-12). "Blessed," says Jesus, is the man who possesses these characteristics: viz., "Poverty of Spirit," the opposite of all pride, self-sufficiency, self-complacency, etc. The mourner, who laments, first, his sins, then his sin, or want of conformity to the will of God, and later the desolations of Zion. "Blessed" are the "meek," the tamed ones who have had the wild spirit of the natural man superseded by the gentle spirit of Christ, and, like their Master, are nonretaliative, and ready to turn the ot

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Winner of the Pneuma Book Award 2018, from The Society for Pentecostal Studies. Pentecostalism is the most rapidly growing branch of Christianity since the 20th century, yet it does not lend itself well to a singular doctrine and there is, therefore, no single comprehensive account of Pentecostal theology worldwide. In this volume, Wolfgang Vondey suggests an account of Pentecostal theology that is genuine to Pentecostals worldwide while allowing for different adaptation and explication among the various Pentecostal groups. He argues that Pentecostal theology is fundamentally concerned with the renewal of the Christian life identified by the transforming work of the Holy Spirit and directed toward the kingdom of God. The book unfolds in two main parts illustrating the full gospel story and theology. Eleven chapters identify the spiritual underpinnings and motivations for Pentecostal theology, formulate a Pentecostal theology of action, translate, apply, and exemplify Pentecostal practices and experiences, and integrate Pentecostal theology in the wider Christian tradition.

Download or read book The Gnostic Gospels written by Elaine Pagels and published by Random House. This book was released on 2004-06-29 with total page 281 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Selected by the Modern Library as one of the 100 best nonfiction books of all time The Gnostic Gospels is a landmark study of the long-buried roots of Christianity, a work of luminous scholarship and wide popular appeal. First published in 1979 to critical acclaim, winning the National Book Award and the National Book Critics Circle Award, The Gnostic Gospels has continued to grow in reputation and influence over the past two decades. It is now widely recognized as one of the most brilliant and accessible histories of early Christian spirituality published in our time. In 1945 an Egyptian peasant unearthed what proved to be the Gnostic Gospels, thirteen papyrus volumes that expounded a radically different view of the life and teachings of Jesus Christ from that of the New Testament. In this spellbinding book, renowned religious scholar Elaine Pagels elucidates the mysteries and meanings of these sacred texts both in the world of the first Christians and in the context of Christianity today. With insight and passion, Pagels explores a remarkable range of recently discovered gospels, including the Gospel of Thomas and the Gospel of Mary Magdalene, to show how a variety of “Christianities” emerged at a time of extraordinary spiritual upheaval. Some Christians questioned the need for clergy and church doctrine, and taught that the divine could be discovered through spiritual search. Many others, like Buddhists and Hindus, sought enlightenment—and access to God—within. Such explorations raised questions: Was the resurrection to be understood symbolically and not literally? Was God to be envisioned only in masculine form, or feminine as well? Was martyrdom a necessary—or worthy—expression of faith? These early Christians dared to ask questions that orthodox Christians later suppressed—and their explorations led to profoundly different visions of Jesus and his message. Brilliant, provocative, and stunning in its implications, The Gnostic Gospels is a radical, eloquent reconsideration of the origins of the Christian faith.
