Book excerpt: Christianity has a history that extends back over two thousand years, and it has endured through many changes in the world. Yet today the contemporary Christian church is facing new problems. How can the church continue to endure in the face of today's unique pluralistic and postmodern challenges? Pure Christianity clearly analyzes distortions that occurred in the primitive early stages of Christianity, and it restores the true identity of the Christian religion for future generations. Author Sung-In Park deconstructs the distorted beliefs of Christianity, going on to reconstruct Christianity based on the life of Jesus; he also redefines the meaning of sin, the gospel, faith, salvation, and the end, based upon a historical Judeo-Christian context. Believers will learn how Christianity was rapidly universalized in the first century, and how this universalized church would affect the future of Christianity. The Christian church you know today is the universalized one--not the church Jesus Christ envisioned. Yet by understanding the true plan of God for the world in Jesus Christ, you can be prepared to evangelize this world, without threatening, in accordance with the divine will of God.

Book Understanding End Times Prophecy

Download or read book Understanding End Times Prophecy written by Paul Benware and published by Moody Publishers. This book was released on 2006-05-01 with total page 282 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many Christians think of end times prophecy as a gigantic, intimidating puzzle -- difficult to piece together and impossible to figure out. But every puzzle can be solved if you approach it the right way. Paul Benware compares prophecy to a picture puzzle. Putting the edge pieces together first builds the 'framework' that makes it easier to fit the other pieces in their place. According to Benware, the framework for eschatology is the biblical covenants. He begins his comprehensive survey by explaining the major covenants. Then he discusses several different interpretations of end times prophecy. Benware digs into the details of the Rapture, the Great Tribulation, the judgements and resurrections, and the millennial kingdom. But he also adds a unique, personal element to the study, answering questions as: -Why study bible prophecy? -What difference does it make if I'm premillenial or amillenial? If what the Bible says about the future puzzles you, Understanding End Times Prophecy will help you put together the pieces and see the big picture.

Book excerpt: What happens when you pull John's Gospel out from the shadow of the other three and give its author a voice of his own? What will John have to say? Matthew grew up under Roman oppression, living with the dream of a conquering Messiah arriving soon on the clouds. John the Apostle had promised this in a letter, the book of Revelation. However, as a adult fifteen years later, Matthew meets up with John and Hears another story, a different story-a story that must be told. John is dying, and wishes to dictate a new Gospel. A Gospel of universal love, returning once more to the inspired message of his beloved Teacher from so Many Years ago. The Bible, author Lee Harmon explains, is a collection of individual writings, compiled over a thousands years, with the author of each one expressing his unique opinion. Harmon reminds us that the book of John is the "one gospel claiming eyewitness testimony," and so if John seems to contradict the earlier gospels, perhaps that's because he is "determined to steer us in the proper direction." Book Debunking Preterism

  • Release : 2023-09-09
  • ISBN : 9780988931664
  • Pages : 0 pages

Book excerpt: Dr. Brock D. Hollett formerly embraced preterism while earning his Master of Divinity at Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in 2000 because the preterist perspective seemed to provide him with coherent arguments regarding the time statements of the New Testament. Persuaded by the arguments put forth by preterist scholars, especially R. C. Sproul, Hank Hanegraaff, N. T. Wright, Gary DeMar, and Kenneth Gentry, Dr. Hollett became a teacher at a church with a preterist orientation, and defended preterist eschatology as the host of a weekly radio program, Fulfilled Life, on Covenant Key FM. By 2013, he had finished writing a book defending preterism and was scheduled to be a conference speaker at a preterist prophecy conference. However, on the very night that he received the first box of 100 books from his publisher, the Lord spoke to his heart to reexamine the biblical doctrine of the resurrection of the dead, which led him to repent of his involvement with preterism. In 2017, God placed a fresh burden on Dr. Hollett's heart to write a book that sets forth a proper biblical eschatology and a roadmap for refuting preterism. He wrote Debunking Preterism: How Over-realized Eschatology Misses the "Not Yet" of Bible Prophecy in only three months, sensing a prophetic urgency regarding the project. Debunking Preterism will undoubtedly become the gold standard on the topic of preterism. The book is replete with a wealth of illustrative figures and comparative charts that reinforce its main concepts. Special emphasis is placed upon a proper understanding of the biblical time statements and the "already and not yet" principle of eschatology.

Book Until it is Fulfilled

  • Author : Anders E. Nielsen
  • Publisher : Mohr Siebeck
  • Release : 2000
  • ISBN : 9783161474040
  • Pages : 356 pages

Download or read book Until it is Fulfilled written by Anders E. Nielsen and published by Mohr Siebeck. This book was released on 2000 with total page 356 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Anders E. Nielsen presents a fresh look on New Testament eschatology by analysing the Gospel of Luke and the Book of Acts. He first of all considers whether ancient literary expressions of farewell motif may or may not lead to an outlook of some sort of transcendental nature, which could play an active role in the composition of the text as read text. He concludes that in a fairly representative number of non-biblical as well as biblical farewell-addresses we do find transcendental outlooks with eschatological implications. Furthermore, these particular outlooks seem to be at work in close relation to the approaching death of the intended speaker of the addresses. Against this background the two major farewell addresses, the one of Jesus in Luke 22 and the one of Paul in Acts 20, are at great length analysed by means of a rhetorical and text-linguistic approach. Anders E. Nielsen divides his exegetical-theological findings into three main-points. First of all the traditional hypothesis of an imminent expectation of the parousia is seen as problematic, because the eschatology in Luke seems to be less a matter of chronology and more a question of quality. Secondly, some of the sayings in a hellenistic work like Luke-Acts may sometimes be free to express a vertical-transcendent aspect with individual-eschatological associations, while other phases are sufficiently vague to call up in the audience both individual and/or collective-eschatological connotations. Thirdly, all this put together suggests that Luke's religious language does in fact not play down eschatology. On the contrary, Anders E. Nielsen suggests that one can speak of some sort of applied eschatology in the sense that all the relevant expressions in the compositions examined suggest a far more parenetic or prescriptive semantic function than an informative one.

Book Understanding Eschatology

Download or read book Understanding Eschatology written by Rob Dalrymple and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many evangelicals have come to embrace a populist eschatology that has neither the support of the historical church, nor of the scholarly world today. For some, this has led to a disillusionment with eschatological speculations. For others, the results are apathy and a failure to understand the mission of God's people. This is tragic! For when the entirety of the New Testament is read and understood from an eschatological perspective, the grand narrative of Scripture and its fulfillment in Jesus comes clearly into focus. A proper framework for understanding eschatology directly correlates to a proper understanding of the mission of God's people, who are themselves carrying forth the biblical story as we approach the New Jerusalem. To fail to comprehend eschatology is to fail to comprehend our mission. This book has two objectives: First, to provide a proper hermeneutical framework from which we may discern a biblical eschatological worldview. Second, to demonstrate that a proper eschatological framework relates to the mission of God's people and the demand for holiness. Thus, eschatology matters!

Book Life in Christ

  • Author : William Robert West
  • Publisher : AuthorHouse

  • Pages : 705 pages

Download or read book Life in Christ written by William Robert West and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2015-09-29 with total page 705 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What do you believe about souls? There are many very different doctrines taught in the world today concerning souls that are believed to be in all humans. By most a soul is believed to be something that is wholly apart from the person a soul is in; that a soul is something that is that is believed to be complete in its self without the person; it will live after the person it is in is dead; it is believed that a soul will exist forever without the person; it will never be dead; therefore, a soul cannot be resurrected from the dead. It is believed that a soul must live someplace forever, and it will live either in Heaven or Hell even if there is no resurrection. The doctrine of unconditional immortality of a deathless soul being in a person, and that soul leaving that person at the death of the person makes it impossible for Christ to have give His life to save that soul from death; if a soul had immortality it would already have life and could never not have life; all Christ could do is give it a reward or punish it.

Book The End Times in Chronological Order

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bible prophecy expert Ron Rhodes offers an easy-to-understand yet detailed chronology and explanation of end-times events. The chapters are arranged around the major end-times themes: the rapture, the tribulation, the millennial kingdom, and the eternal state. Each chapter begins with a list of the specific events it covers, making this an extremely user-friendly chronological guide to end-times biblical prophecy. Rhodes allows for various interpretations among Christians. Yet the sequence he describes is faithful to the biblical text, based on a literal approach to prophecy, and held by many Bible scholars. As readers discover that they really can understand Bible prophecy, they will come to love and trust the Scriptures like never before.
