Book Zeolite Characterization and Catalysis

Download or read book Zeolite Characterization and Catalysis written by Arthur W. Chester and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2009-10-03 with total page 372 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The idea for putting together a tutorial on zeolites came originally from my co-editor, Eric Derouane, about 5 years ago. I ?rst met Eric in the mid-1980s when he spent 2 years working for Mobil R&D at our then Corporate lab at Princeton, NJ. He was on the senior technical staff with projects in the synthesis and characterization of new materials. At that time, I managed a group at our Paulsboro lab that was responsible for catalyst characterization in support of our catalyst and process development efforts, and also had a substantial group working on new material synthesis. Hence, our interests overlapped considerably and we met regularly. After Eric moved back to Namur (initially), we maintained contact, and in the 1990s, we met a number of times in Europe on projects of joint interest. It was after I retired from ExxonMobil in 2002 that we began to discuss the tutorial concept seriously. Eric had (semi-)retired and lived on the Algarve, the southern coast of Portugal. In January 2003, my wife and I spent 3 weeks outside of Lagos, and I worked parts of most days with Eric on the proposed content of the book. We decided on a comprehensive approach that ultimately amounted to some 20+ chapters covering all of zeolite chemistry and catalysis and gave it the title Zeolite Chemistry and Catalysis: An integrated Approach and Tutorial.

Fourier Transform Raman Spectroscopy: From Concept to Experiment describes the nuances of the discipline from its conceptual beginning to its actual establishment as a viable analytical technique. It chronicles the rapid succession of scientific steps that brought FT-Raman spectroscopy from a laboratory curiosity to a marketable analytical instrument in only four years. Thetreatise contains a series of chapters written by those who participated in this exciting process and who have gone on to lead the march of Raman spectroscopy into the Fourier domain through their sustained contributions to the field. This book focuses on FT-Raman spectroscopy as a: Non-invasive technique for studying the structure of molecules containing chromophores Methodology to avoid interference by fluorescing impurities Routine technique for the structural characterization of materials Means to do quantitative analytical chemistry in the absence of resonance enhancement

Book Raman Spectroscopy Applied to Earth Sciences and Cultural Heritage

Download or read book Raman Spectroscopy Applied to Earth Sciences and Cultural Heritage written by J. Dubessy and published by The Mineralogical Society of Great Britain and Ireland. This book was released on 2012-11-20 with total page 519 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Spectroscopic methods such as Raman are used to investigate the structure and dynamics of matter. They are essential for the study of the different types of mineral or organic materials produced at the Earths surface or interior. As a result of technological improvements in gratings, detectors, filters and personal computers in the last decade, many micro-Raman spectrometers have become plug-and-play instruments, very easy to use and available at a lower cost than the early Raman microprobes. Thus, many laboratories in Earth Sciences and Cultural Heritage are equipped with these new spectrometers. Commercial, portable Raman spectrometers working in the field have also contributed to the spread of Raman spectroscopy. Poor levels of education in terms of Raman spectroscopy in undergraduate courses in Earth Sciences make it difficult for individuals to obtain information of the highest quality relevant to Earth sciences and Cultural Heritage. This volume is, therefore, timely. Four main topics are addressed: Theory; Methodology, including the instrumentation; Experimental aspects; and Application.

Book FT Raman Spectroscopy of Keratins

Download or read book FT Raman Spectroscopy of Keratins written by Waheed Akhtar and published by . This book was released on 1995 with total page 129 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the current work biological samples, taken from different mammalian and avian keratotic biopolymers, were examined using vibrational Raman spectroscopic and microscopic techniques. This was a continuation of earlier work reported in the literature on keratin tissues using FT-Raman spectroscopy with further investigation of previously unexamined samples, namely, cat's fur and claws, human nail, a pheasant's beak, and untreated, treated, and root samples of human hair. Assignments consistent with the FT-Raman vibrational wavenumbers were made to characterize the molecular and conformational nature of the samples, taking into account assignments made in previous studies. The keratin tissues studied showed several common bands in their spectra, demonstrating the similarities in their molecular conformation, but a number of structurally important differences were observed. The most important of these were the amide I and III bands; the assignments depend upon whether the samples studied existed in the alpha-helix conformation (nail, horn), or the beta-sheet structures (quill, beak), and in the sulphur content of tissues containing hard keratin (hair, nail) and soft keratin (callus tissue).

Book FT Raman Spectroscopic Study of Archaeological and Biological Samples

Download or read book FT Raman Spectroscopic Study of Archaeological and Biological Samples written by Michael George Sibley and published by . This book was released on 1997 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The application of Fourier-Transform Raman spectroscopy to the study of biological and archaeological samples is demonstrated in this work:- Two unknown archaeological resinous samples, dating from approximately 250 years BC, have been analysed and compared with those of contemporary resins from Vietnam. The application of the Raman spectroscopic technique for the non-destructive identification of materials of archaeological significance and their attribution is demonstrated. Samples from a comparable situation, i.e. sealants on funerary pottery vessels, from North America, were also included for comparison. Mammalian and reptilian keratins, horn, hoof and shell, have been analysed and used for the construction of a database for the identification of highly keratotic samples. The samples investigated were; bovine keratin and hoof, Texas Longhom cattle horn, kudu horn, tortoise shell and human finger nail.......
