Book New Frontiers of Policy Evaluation in Regional Science

Download or read book New Frontiers of Policy Evaluation in Regional Science written by Yoshiro Higano and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-06-02 with total page 412 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is especially valuable for its policy evaluation studies using both a theoretical model for policies carried out at national and regional levels and for gathering policy evaluation studies in diverse disciplines by empirical study. Policy analysis shown here employs theoretical models such as an international trade model, an optimal tariff, and spatial reorganization. At the same time, factors in well-being are taken into consideration with land development, changes in migration and local economies by natural disasters, validation of efficiency for emission control methods, the relationship between cyberspace and physical space in urban networks, and NPOs’ investment activities. The empirical research reported in this volume analyzes Japan, China, and Asian-Pacific cities. In the case of Japan, studies focus on the finances of local governments, the real estate industry, the role of consumer cooperatives in a food system, and agriculture and its productivity in hilly and mountainous areas. As well, the effects of industrial clusters in megacities and investment in high-speed railways and prediction of human behavior during an earthquake are studied. In China’s case, studies focus on food policy and the effect of ecology and environment on migration policy. For Asia-Pacific cities, studies show performance rankings of “super cities” in the region. The book defines the frontier of policy evaluation following a middle path between theoretical study and empirical study with regard to evaluation. In addition, the book contributes to an understanding of the relationship between the goals and targets of sustainable development. This book is highly recommended for graduate students, policymakers, and researchers concerned with policy evaluation.

This book was released on 2023-07-25 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The study of law is a pursuit that requires deep exploration and understanding of its fundamental principles and their application in different legal systems. The complexities of law can be both intriguing and challenging, and a comprehensive analysis of the dichotomy between public and private law is essential to grasp the nuances of legal relationships and remedies. In this book, we embark on an intellectual journey, meticulously examining the dichotomy of public and private law and its significance in the legal landscape. We begin by tracing the genesis of public law and unraveling the boundaries that distinguish it from private law. Exploring the parties involved, the nature of legal relationships, and the remedies and procedures available, we lay the groundwork for a comprehensive understanding of this multifaceted dichotomy. As we delve deeper into the subject matter, we challenge existing notions and encourage readers to rethink the boundaries of public and private law. The separation of powers, a cornerstone of democratic systems, assumes a new dimension as we analyze its evolving nature and its influence on legal systems across the globe. We explore the transformation of natural law and its impact on the domain of public law, shedding light on the dynamic interplay between legal principles and societal changes. Furthermore, we explore the role of public and private law in the era of globalization, recognizing the interconnectedness of legal systems and the challenges posed by an increasingly interconnected world. By examining the rule of law and the doctrine of separation of powers in Islamic and socialist legal systems, we gain valuable insights into alternative approaches to legal governance and the protection of human rights. A comprehensive exploration of civil legal systems, including the Romano-German legal system, mixed legal systems, and common law traditions, forms a crucial part of our analysis. From Germany to France, Switzerland to Finland, and beyond, we examine the constitutional frameworks, judicial independence, court systems, and legal aid provisions that define these legal systems and shape their application in society. As we traverse through the chapters, we also explore the legal systems of Japan, the United Kingdom, the United States, Ireland, Canada, Australia, Singapore, South Africa, and India, unraveling the intricacies of their legal frameworks and the principles that underpin them. From written constitutions to the structure of governments, from the powers of the judiciary to the protection of fundamental rights, we delve into the unique characteristics of each legal system, offering a comprehensive analysis for readers. Additionally, we delve into the principles of natural justice and their significance in the Indian legal system. We explore the role of the Ombudsman in India, the right to information, and the juxtaposition of private and public laws, providing valuable insights into the evolving landscape of legal governance in India. Moreover, we delve into the socialist legal systems of Russia and the People's Republic of China, analyzing their written constitutions, governance structures, and the role of the judiciary within their legal frameworks. By examining the incorporation of rights and duties, the rigidity of the constitution, and the hierarchy of courts, we gain a deeper understanding of the legal systems of these nations. Finally, we explore the Muslim legal systems of Iran, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, and Saudi Arabia, shedding light on their unique characteristics and their influence on legal governance within these nations. Through our exploration of private and public law, we also analyze the practices of states, the interpretation of constitutions, the philosophy of rights and liberties, and the right to equality. Furthermore, we delve into the jurisprudential aspects of private and public law, examining influential theories and concepts that shape our understanding of legal systems and their functioning. This book serves as a comprehensive guide for legal scholars, practitioners, students, and anyone interested in gaining a deeper understanding of the complexities of public and private law. Our aim is to facilitate critical thinking, foster academic discourse, and contribute to the advancement of legal knowledge in a rapidly changing world. We invite you to embark on this intellectual journey, exploring the intricacies of legal systems and gaining a deeper understanding of the dichotomy between public and private law. Happy reading!

Book The Economics of Intellectual Property in a World without Frontiers

Download or read book The Economics of Intellectual Property in a World without Frontiers written by Meheroo Jussawalla and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 1992-02-20 with total page 168 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This work explores the problems arising from dynamic information technology in its application to intellectual property rights. In a global marketplace of ideas, political boundaries and the sovereignty of the nation state seem to be disappearing because of the increasing difficulty of scrutinizing the infringement of intellectual property. That is particularly true of computer software, the focus of this book. The work analyzes the legal and political economy implications of investment in the software programming industry and the near-futility of monitoring protection of intellectual property in industry. The book begins by exploring the current state of copyright laws for computer software. It analyzes the economic theories of demand elasticities, public choice, clubs, and the concept of public goods as those theories apply to intellectual property, particularly computer software. This analysis is followed by a discussion of prevailing legislation in the United States, Europe, Japan, Asia, and China. The analysis is fortified by a comprehensive coverage of the Uruguay Round. The work concludes in favor of the free flow of information, which yields overwhelming benefits to a globally integrated market.

Book Real Estate and Global Urban History

Download or read book Real Estate and Global Urban History written by Alexia Yates and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2021-08-26 with total page 146 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Capitalist private property in land and buildings – real estate – is the ground of modern cities, materially, politically, and economically. It is foundational to their development and core to much theoretical work on the urban environment. It is also a central, pressing matter of political contestation in contemporary cities. Yet it remains largely without a history. This Element examines the modern city as a propertied space, defining real estate as a technology of (dis)possession and using it to move across scales of analysis, from the local spatiality of particular built spaces to the networks of legal, political, and economic imperatives that constitute property and operate at national and international levels. This combination of territorial embeddedness with more wide-ranging institutional relationships charts a route to an urban history that allows the city to speak as a global agent and artefact without dispensing with the role of states and local circumstance.

Book Advances in Kaiyu Studies

Download or read book Advances in Kaiyu Studies written by Saburo Saito and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-01-30 with total page 467 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is the first systematic exposition of advances in Kaiyu studies carried out by the author and his colleagues in Japan and other parts of Asia. Consumer shop-around behavior is referred to as Kaiyu in Japanese, a term widely used in several fields such as city planning, marketing, real estate, tourism, and regional policy. The book demonstrates how Kaiyu research has evolved from the original idea to the present state and envisages prospective Kaiyu studies in the age of big data and the Internet of Things (IoT). The distinguishing feature of their research is that Kaiyu is regarded as consumers’ simultaneous decisions sequentially made while undertaking their shop-arounds as to which shops they visit, for what purpose, and how much they spend there. This is a sharp contrast to much research on trip chains, which only deal with spatial movements. As a result, their studies first succeeded in empirically exploring the relationships between consumer shop-around movements and money flows among shopping sites within a city center retail environment. As a result, the author and his coworkers uncovered the roles of many urban policies and facilities inexplicit so far by revealing how they contribute to the turnover of the whole town through stimulating Kaiyu. This gives a universal means of evaluation for urban development policy. Thus they have refreshed the scope of consumer shop-around studies from shop-around movements in the context of city planning, shopping marketing, and evaluation of urban revitalization policy, to town equity researches. This book presents step by step these conceptual developments by showing concrete research examples from their vast Kaiyu studies based on numerous empirical interview surveys at real retail environments.
