Book excerpt: From the Horse' Mouth is a slice-of-life peek into the extraordinary world of San Francisco's legendary Iron Horse Restaurant. Memories of a bygone era come to life as we look behind the doors of The Horse from 1954 to 1973, when the martini was the drink of the day and the international fare was second to none. We enter into a world of fun, food and fashion, and meet the extraordinary staff (including the aide de camp to General Douglas MacArthur) and patrons who made The Iron Horse the place to be and to be seen. The pulsing energy of standing-room-only crowds, the diverse clientele, and the antics of the Inner Circle, a group of colorful regulars, are only part of this delightful tale. Spontaneous visits from notable celebrities such as Liberace, Sammy Davis, Jr. and Lou Rawls were a way of life at The Horse and it was not unusual to see the likes of Joe DiMaggio dispensing life lessons in a corner booth, or Maria Callas jokingly serving salad to a surprised and delighted crowd. Interspersed throughout is the touching story of the Giorgetti family, from its roots in Italy where Frederico and Maria's poignant and heartwarming love was born, to their trials and triumphs in the sleepy coastal community of Half Moon Bay, California. It is here that Leo Giorgetti is born and as we follow him through his nostalgic boyhood, U.S. Navy days during World War II, and eventual success in San Francisco, we see why he was endeared himself to so many, making him forever revered as the generous and charismatic owner of The Iron Horse. ##

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Iron Tree is a unique saga of stories, only told in the sense of a homeless schizophrenic. To start with, the first of the sagas (The Art of EVE), were detailed episodes of modern frustrations in knowing and living a loving relationship, derailed in curse by cultural diaspora. The battle between logic and heart sways even more in the second saga (The Iron Tree), as a journey to find the truth of inner peace. Still plagued by the subconscious terrors of manifestation, overlooked moments of genius and spiritual optimism; the journey continues. In love with the self, begets a process to place the bad memories in context to the future that doesn't form the completion of courage and character. It simply allows one to find strength in being happy with "who" one is and not letting anything or anyone to disallow, for the compromise of themselves. This is an intellectual and spiritual premise for living life's adventure. Know the visual sense of why no one would dare walk in anyone else's shoes - not even for a foot. Though it's biographical in nature, the thoughts, hopes, dreams, successes and failures of a traveller is the journey of someone who was born with freedom in their heart or hearts. It is indeed a well placed story of how I was done with the ethos of Babylon, it's unhealthy culture and spiritual trife. Though, I still know "good" people stuck on stupid being there, nothing now can drag me back into the hell I escaped from. Like many unseen and never heard, #HimToo is often a sad chasm of denying a man's right to be himself. If that means to learn from the ill choices made, then those who have learned, as I have, will also agree that it's better to beat the system than to get beat at every turn for just wanting better out of the relationships that come at you with a premise, than with an honest heart. At least, I didn't have to pay $130,000 to a porn star and I damn sure didn't lay around as the lascivious nature of the women who chased me. Who said staying intact was easy? How many people you know with a STD or misshapen uterus that looks and feels like dried lemon on gravel? What decisions could you make when all hope is gone and death is close behind you? How will you go on when nobody cares? Where will you find the will? Yeah, sounds like a mid-life crisis but why let it dominate you? Go ahead and read the book. 9 times out of 10, your opinion will be laughed at when commonality is inherent in everything we do for a decent relationship with God. Jah Bless.

I was not aware until this day that he had been tracking me, but, judging from what he said, and from what I know about him, I now see that he must have been doing so for some years. Here is the explanation, and, let me add, it intimately concerns yourselves. We are delighted to publish this classic book as part of our extensive Classic Library collection. This book contains a story founded largely on facts, and is intended to illustrate some of the more salient points and interesting circumstances connected with the railway system of this kingdom. It makes no pretension whatever to give a comprehensive, much less a complete, view of a subject which, in its details, I conceive to be almost inexhaustible. To the various managers, superintendents, clerks, drivers, guards, and porters of the several railway companies from whom much of my information has been derived, I now tender my most sincere thanks for the kindness and ready assistance I have received at their hands. Edinburgh, 1871. R. M. BALLANTYNE.

Book excerpt: This book presents a listing of two hundred and sixty seven engines delivered to twenty-six American railroads by Ross Winans (1796-1877) of Baltimore, Maryland, during the period 1843 through 1863. It is partially derived from a transcription of his Memorandum of Engines from his personal pocket notebook, in the possession of the Maryland Historical Society, Baltimore.1 The material here supplements, corrects, and updates previously published rosters of the output of Winans' deliveries. It is not necessarily a complete, definitive, nor comprehensive roster of the output of Winans' shops. It should be noted that not all of the delivered engines were accepted, and that in some cases, the engines were returned and sold to other roads.
