Book The Practical Muse

Download or read book The Practical Muse written by Patricia Rae and published by Bucknell University Press. This book was released on 1997 with total page 334 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Patricia Rae's study, while accepting Rorty's view that there is philosophical solidarity between pragmatism and modernism, rejects his interpretation of both as forms of dogmatic skepticism. If pragmatism and modernism coincide, Rae argues, the case of these three writers suggests that the intersection lies not in a rejection of "truthfulness to experience" but in a cautious respect for it.

Book As The Chasm Grows The Black HipHop Black American Cultural Contrast

Download or read book As The Chasm Grows The Black HipHop Black American Cultural Contrast written by Wesley N. Chase and published by O.S.I. Press. This book was released on 2018-10-19 with total page 148 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When you think of Black-Americans, what image(s) come to your mind? Honestly, what do you see when you think of a Black-American male and a Black-American female? Now that you have an image when you think of Black-American culture, what are your thoughts now? If it doesn’t take long for images and ideas about our culture to come to your mind; take a moment to now think if those images/thoughts are fueled by stereotypes and would any of those images/thoughts be considered offensive in any way? Now let’s do the exact same exercise but this time I want you to think of HipHop culture. Is there any overlap in terms of images/thoughts you had concerning Black-American culture when you pictured HipHop culture? Given that many of the most popular artists in HipHop are Black people, I don’t think it is uncommon if the two cultures were in alignment when you thought about both and therein lies the crux of this book. The HipHop Community has many subcultures and genres of art forms that are immensely popular worldwide; given the aforementioned statement regarding the race of some of HipHop’s most recognizable figures, it is easy for those outside of the Black Community to meld both Black HipHop and Black-American culture together. The goal of this book is to show how over time a divide has grown between the two and as that chasm grows it is likely time to start defining each culture a little more clearly. As a representative of Black-American culture, this is the groundwork I hope to lay here.

Book The Voice of Truth

Download or read book The Voice of Truth written by Christina Hunter and published by Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2024-07-08 with total page 261 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Exercising her everlasting optimism, Christina Hunter continued to muster up the courage and devotion to serve in the field of nursing through desperate times that challenged her faith. She began to question her purpose as the health care field seemed to overlook the basic foundational principles and core values of service, switching gears to put profit over people. In this riveting book, Christina pours her heart out as she invites the readers into the mind and heart of the bedside nurse. As she searches for meaning, she connects with her past, reminiscing about the patients she took care of and the families she met over the years. She describes how patients who are no longer awake, who she refers to as "sleeping beauties," taught her so much even through their silence. This book will take you on a journey through the hospital during COVID pandemic and through many types of trauma. Christina tells of how she learned to be an advocate and how this step in faith put a target on her back. She finally realized what she was fighting for, and this brought her peace and kept her grounded. The answers she was searching for couldn't have come soon enough. Buckle up for this must-read that will take you on a ride of ups and down, twists and turns, and will show that as a nurse, Christina not only had to fight against sickness, she also had to fight those from within as she exposed the maleficent ideology of corporate compliance, a most deadly disease, which was found hiding behind the mask of plausible deniability.
