He married Elise (Elizabeth) Kobel (1812-1888) 1833 in Bern, Bern, Switzerland. She was born in Hettiswill, Bern Canton, Switzerland to Joseph Kobel and Barbara Grunder. They immigrated to America 1854 and settled first in Wayne Co., Ohio. Later lived in Isabella Co., Michigan where they died. They had six children, five born in Switzerland, youngest, Frederick Schlafley (b. 1855), born in Wayne Co., Ohio. Descendants live in Michigan, Ohio, California, Florida and else- where.
