Book Brooklyn Crazy Guy

Download or read book Brooklyn Crazy Guy written by Michael Castello and published by Trafford Publishing. This book was released on 2012-04-27 with total page 193 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: East New York was a section of Brooklyn and was the mecca of organized crime; the floodgates were opened to immigrants and those that came for a better life, marveled at the vastness of the open fields they the immigrants were ready to enslave themselves to secure a better life. Others with devious minds saw an opportunity to form a new government. America was ripe for the underworld. The families came for freedom but were subdued; some families taught their children to respect the crime lords. I was fascinated by the stories of brutality by men that blamed others for discrimination; the crime lords declared that we must stick together and not trust outsiders. That formed my mind set. The schools were a playground for me; I fought my way from one school to another. I was uneducated found myself with the worst jobs. I started stealing. I developed a taste for forbidden fruit. I spent time in the military learned to use weapons. I had a diabolical aspect in my thinking nothing seemed to bother me. I did mundane things one fiasco after another, all I could think of was crime. I love to handle guns it give me a sense of power. I would practice in front of the mirror: I would pull the gun from my belt. I wanted to be John Dillinger tough and vicious. I did a lot of time lost my wife and child noting mattered all I wanted was to be respected by fear; the jails were hard to take. The inmates were hard to deal with. My eyes opened to the fact that I was the biggest sucker that there ever was. I did not feel sorry for myself I kind of disliked who I was. I lived alone had few friends. I spent the last 17 years poking fun at myself I could have been someone; I elected to be a nobody!

Book My Attainment Of The Pole

Download or read book My Attainment Of The Pole written by Frederick Cook and published by BoD - Books on Demand. This book was released on 2024-01-19 with total page 404 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "My Attainment of the Pole" is a controversial account written by Frederick A. Cook, claiming to be the first person to reach the North Pole. Published in 1911, Cook details his alleged journey, providing descriptions of the harsh Arctic conditions, challenges faced, and the ultimate triumph of reaching the pole. However, Cook's claim faced skepticism and scrutiny from other explorers and scholars of the time, most notably Robert E. Peary, who also asserted to have reached the North Pole. The conflicting narratives and lack of concrete evidence have led to a historical debate over the legitimacy of Cook's achievement. Despite the controversy surrounding Cook's claim, "My Attainment of the Pole" remains an intriguing document, offering readers insight into the intense competition and disputes that characterized the race to the North Pole during the early 20th century.

Book Brazen

Download or read book Brazen written by Julia Haart and published by Crown. This book was released on 2022-04-12 with total page 416 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: WALL STREET JOURNAL AND USA TODAY BESTSELLER • From the star of the Netflix reality series My Unorthodox Life, a riveting, inspiring memoir of one woman’s escape from an extremist religious sect and an extraordinary rise from housewife to shoe designer, to CEO and co-owner of the modeling agency Elite World Group “An irresistible read . . . Written with great intensity and rare candor, Brazen is a story of longing for more and manifesting that vision.”—Tommy Hilfiger Ever since she was a child, every aspect of Julia Haart’s life—what she wore, what she ate, what she thought—was controlled by the dictates of ultra-Orthodox Judaism. At nineteen, after a lifetime spent caring for her seven younger siblings, she was married off to a man she barely knew. For the next twenty-three years, her marriage would rule her life. Eventually, when Haart’s younger daughter, Miriam, started to innocently question why she wasn’t allowed to sing in public, run in shorts, or ride a bike without being covered from neck to knee, Haart reached a breaking point. She knew that if she didn’t find a way to leave, her daughters would be forced into the same unending servitude that had imprisoned her. So Haart created a double life. In the ultra-Orthodox world, clothing has one purpose—to cover the body, head to toe—and giving any thought to one’s appearance beyond that is considered sinful, an affront to God. But when no one was looking, Haart would pore over fashion magazines and sketch designs for the clothes she dreamed about wearing in the world beyond her Orthodox suburb. She started preparing for her escape by educating herself and creating a “freedom” fund. At the age of forty-two, she finally mustered the courage to flee the fundamentalist life that was strangling her soul. Within a week of her escape, Haart founded a shoe brand, and within nine months, she was at Paris Fashion Week. Just a few years later, she was named creative director of La Perla. Soon she would become co-owner and CEO of Elite World Group, and one of the most powerful people in the fashion industry. Along the way, her four children—Batsheva, Shlomo, Miriam, and Aron—have not only accepted but embraced her transformation. Propulsive and unforgettable, Haart’s story is the journey from a world of no to a world of yes, and an inspiration for women everywhere to find their freedom, their purpose, and their voice.
