In this book, O’Dell explains what the Nebula is, how it shines, its role in giving birth to stars, and the insights it affords into how common (or rare) planet formation might be.

Nebulae and How to Observe Them is a comprehensive mine of information for all levels of amateur observers, from the beginner to the experienced.

Book An Introduction to Planetary Nebulae

Download or read book An Introduction to Planetary Nebulae written by Jason J. Nishiyama and published by Morgan & Claypool Publishers. This book was released on 2018-05-25 with total page 101 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book we will look at what planetary nebulae are, where they come from and where they go. We will discuss what mechanisms cause these beautiful markers of stellar demise as well as what causes them to form their variety of shapes. How we measure various aspects of planetary nebulae such as what they are made of will also be explored. Though we will give some aspects of planetary nebulae mathematical treatment, the main points should be accessible to people with only a limited background in mathematics. A short glossary of some of the more arcane astronomical terms is at the end of the book to help in understanding. Included at the end of each chapter is an extensive bibliography to the peer reviewed research on these objects and I would encourage the reader interested in an even deeper understanding to read these articles.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from From Nebula to Nebula: Or the Dynamics of the Heavens, Containing a Broad Outline of the History of Astronomy, a General Summary of Its Achievements, a Synopsis and Criticism of Recent Cosmological Theories, and Especially an Expansion The object of this work is twofold: first, to present a re-valuation of the time-honored doctrines upon which modern astronomical science is based, and, secondly, to propose a new system of cosmology revealing the entire universe in the philosophic aspect of a single organic unit. Like that of Newton, my system is founded upon the great underlying principle of universal gravitation; but it improves upon his by taking into account the hitherto unexploited factor of the joint attraction of the stars and its dynamical influence upon the domestic relations of our solar family. During the two centuries which have elapsed since the publication of The Principia many important astronomical facts have come to light, for example; the journey of the sun in space, the proper motions of stars, the enormous age of the earth, the anomalous acceleration of the moon, the existence of nebulae, etc., whose successful incorporation into gravitational astronomy demands, not adaptation merely, but radical reconstruction. Astronomers in general appear to have lulled themselves into the comforting belief that the paramount problems of astronomy have been successfully disposed of, and that little remains to be done save detail work, such as, the classifying of star spectra, keeping tab on the variable stars, computing asteroidal orbits, and the like, - a romance which popular writers on astronomy have long been busily disseminating among their lay readers. Book Planetary Nebulae and How to Observe Them

Download or read book Planetary Nebulae and How to Observe Them written by Martin Griffiths and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-02-24 with total page 299 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Planetary Nebulae and How to Observe Them is for amateur astronomers who want to go beyond the Messier objects, concentrating on one of the most beautiful classes of astronomical objects in the sky. Planetary nebulae are not visible to the naked eye, but they are a fascinating group of telescope objects. This guide enables a user equipped with an average-sized amateur telescope to get the best out of observing them. Topics covered include their astrophysical make-up, history of their discovery, classification and description, telescopes to use, filters, and observing techniques - in short everything anyone would need to know to successfully observe planetary nebulae. The book describes the various forms these astronomical objects can take and explains why they are favorite targets for amateur observers. Descriptions of over 100 nebulae personally observed by the author using telescopes of various sizes are included in the book. Readers can create their own observing program or follow the list of these captivating objects, many of which are found within our own Milky Way Galaxy.

But her mission is important: help keep Earth's newly discovered alien species, the Bufoanthroid, under control. By day, Ree enjoys spending time with her best friend, Zac Walker. But when night falls, she is continually tormented by memories of her mother, killed by a Bufoanthroid the day Ree was born. Her world is turned upside down once again when Zac's ship disappears. Book The Origin and Evolution of Planetary Nebulae

Download or read book The Origin and Evolution of Planetary Nebulae written by Sun Kwok and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2000-05-25 with total page 260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This authoritative volume provides a comprehensive review of the origin and evolution of planetary nebulae. It covers all the stages of their evolution, carefully synthesizes observations from across the spectrum, and clearly explains all the key physical processes at work. Particular emphasis is placed on observations from space, using the Hubble Space Telescope, the Infrared Space Observatory, and the ROSAT satellite. This book presents a thoroughly modern understanding of planetary nebulae, integrating developments in stellar physics with the dynamics of nebular evolution. It also describes exciting possibilities such as the use of planetary nebulae in determining the cosmic distance scale, the distribution of dark matter and the chemical evolution of galaxies. This book provides graduate students with an accessible introduction to planetary nebulae, and researchers with an authoritative reference. It can also be used as an advanced text on the physics of the interstellar medium.
