Book excerpt: Fully illustrated. Includes all of the drawings from the original edition. What is the history between the Old and New Testaments? Most people are not even aware there is such a gap. But there is. A 400 year gap. When the Old Testament leaves off the Jews have just returned back from Babylonian captivity and the Persian Empire is in full swing. When Jesus enters the scene it is 400 years later. The Persians are long gone, the Greeks have had their time and now the Romans rule to roost. So what happened? Do we have any writings from this time? Could understanding this period of time help us understand the New Testament, the world of Jesus and the Apostles? The answer is yes. This exciting book by well-known author H. A. Ironside lifts the veil from this vital period of Jewish history and helps piece together the events that brought them from Malachi to Matthew. This book will be of interest to students of Biblical, Ancient Near Eastern, Greek and Roman history as well as all those who desire to know and understand the Bible for fully.Ironside published this book in 1914. It is a history of the time between the last book of the Protestant Old Testamend and the New Testament. From Malachi to Matthew. For most Christians this is a silent and unknown time. What happened in those years? Why was there no prophet speaking for God? Are there any writings from that time that can illuminate our questions? In what way did this time help prepare for the coming Messiah and the rapid spread of the Gospel? What can archaeology tell us? Answering this question can help us really bring the New Testament to light. It was these preceding 400 years that paved the way for the New Testament scene. A must read for all Bible students. Complete with the original 1914 illustrations.Author of over 100 books, booklets and tracts, H. A. Ironside was a bulwark of orthodox Evangelical Fundamentalism. He wrote on everything from Jewish history, to New Testament doctrine, to eschatology, to Bible commentaries and more. He was a direct successor of D. L. Moody and R. A. Torrey as senior pastor of Moody Church (founded by D. L. Moody). He was also their spiritual successor in that he continued the defense of classic Evangelical orthodoxy against the onslaught of Modernism. In 1930, he became the pastor, serving for 18 years until his wife's death in 1948.He went to be with his Lord in 1951.About CrossReach Publications:We are a family based home business. Book excerpt: When one reads the Bible, a few differences appear between the Old and New Testaments. When we close the Old Testament, the Persians are in charge, and suddenly the Romans are running things in the New Testament. We find things in the New not a part of the old, such as the Sanhedrin and synagogues, Pharisees and Sadducees. The period between the testament is a time when God is not communicating to man. But just because God is not speaking, it does not mean that He is not acting. The Intertestamental Period is a fascinating era where the providence of God works the world situation just so that when Jesus does come into the world, it is "the fullness of time" (Galatians 4:4).

Book The Last Minutes A Study of the Intertestamental Period

Download or read book The Last Minutes A Study of the Intertestamental Period written by Steven C. Hunter and published by Start2finish Books. This book was released on 2016-02-23 with total page 124 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Between Malachi and Matthew is a span of at least 400 years. When we arrive at the Gospels, we read of Pharisees, Romans, and synagogues, none of which were present in the Old Testament. The Intertestamental Period is one of the best commentaries on the first-century Jewish climate. The sects, institutions, and divisions of Judaism-not to mention the rejection of Jesus as Messiah-is given clearer understanding by knowing what took place during this period. In this 13-lesson study of the period between the Testaments, Steven C. Hunter gives Bible students a window into the first-century world in which Jesus preached, was rejected, and crucified. The result will be a deeper understanding and richer appreciation for the New Testament world.

Book Introduction to the Intertestamental Period

Download or read book Introduction to the Intertestamental Period written by Raymond F. Surburg and published by . This book was released on 1975 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When readers of the Bible turn its pages from Chapter 4 of Malachi to Chapter 1 of the Gospel according to St. Matthew, they pass not only from the Old to the New Testament, a fact of which they are well aware, but they also pass over a number of centuries, a truth to which most readers give little thought. Between Malachi and the appearance of John the Baptist there is an interlude of about four centuries. Certain scholars in the past have characterized these centuries as the "silent centuries," and have relegated them to oblivion, not considering them of much significance for Jewish history or for an understanding of the history and theology of the New Testament. In a larger sense than is often realized, these centuries are the key for the understanding and adequate comprehension of the life and literature of the New Testament. While the setting for both the Old and New Testaments is the Mediterranean world, yet the intellectual, social, and religious backgrounds of both Testaments is different. The fact is that the atmosphere in which the New Testament is written is in large part the product of the period between the Testaments, and no amount of study of the Old Testament can solely explain it. On the other hand, no survey of the life of the Roman era is able to give the biblical reader explanations of many New Testament phrases and ideas. - Introduction.

Book The Intertestamental Period A Climate of Change

Download or read book The Intertestamental Period A Climate of Change written by Dr. Charles A. Seielstad and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2019-12-16 with total page 252 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What is The Intertestamental Period: A Climate of Change all about? Also known as the Silent Years of the Bible, the four-hundred-year period between the Old and New Testament was all but silent. The actions of Alexander the Great, Antiochus Epiphanes, Justin Maccabees, Herod the Great, Cleopatra, Marc Antony Julius Caesar, and many others set the stage for the New Testament events to take place and to be written down for future study and life application. Many shadows of the things to come prophetically spoken about in the Old Testament were found fulfilled at the onset of the New Testament. This book overflows with history, religion, politics, literature, but it also has intrigue, murder, rebellion, with a little bit of insanity mixed in. The events that took place during this era were not considered in simpler times or boring by any means. You will discover that The Intertestamental Period was An Optimum Environment for Gods Ultimate Plan.

Book Malachi s Message to the Men of Today

Download or read book Malachi s Message to the Men of Today written by G Campbell Morgan and published by . This book was released on 2019-06-19 with total page 50 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: G. Campbell Morgan offers commentary upon the Book of Malachi, detailing its wisdom, spiritual advice, and relevance to the modern Christian. Closely examining the text, Morgan explains the key elements of Malachi's prophecy, mentioning his belief early in his narrative that the value of Malachi's words are greater in the modern day than ever before. Justifying this claim, Morgan examines the time in which Malachi made his predictions, and demonstrates how these have been shown as correct in later literature and echoed in other prophecies. Traversing the scriptures with his signature fluency, Morgan conducts a verse-by-verse analysis of Malachi. Cross-referencing these with other passages of the Bible, in both the Old and New Testaments, the author passionately makes the case that Malachi is an underappreciated prophet whose words resonate throughout scripture and time.
