It was her appreciation and understanding of the mechanics of books, combined with her writing and art background, that spurred her to enter the world of book arts. She was inspired by the creations of Joe D'Ambrosio, a world famous book artist, and took many classes and workshops with him. Her efforts earned her a grant from the Sacramento Metropolitan Arts Commission, as well as a second place cash award in Campbell Soup's national "The Art of Campbell's Soup" contest. Her submission was a book was titled, "My 42 Years of mmm ... mmm ... Good," and was exhibited in the Andy Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania for several weeks. Debra describes the non-traditional books she has written, designed, illustrated, and produced as unique creations for housing words, images and ideas. These limited edition books have titles such as: "Alice Looking Through The Wonderland of Glass;" "Goop Tales;" and "Anagrammatically Red." Her work has been exhibited in California and Oregon. The Sacramento Central Library has many examples of her work, which is kept in the Sacramento Room's vault, with other rare and valuable books. "The Day The Colors Became Friends," is her first traditionally bound, produced, and published book. Debra lives in northern California with her husband Bill, who is also a photographer and writer.
