Book Friction Coefficients in a Vaneless Diffuser

Download or read book Friction Coefficients in a Vaneless Diffuser written by W. Byron Brown and published by . This book was released on 1947 with total page 522 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Friction coefficients for three constant-area vaneless diffusers, used in conjunction with a centrifugal impeller, were determined from static- and total-pressure surveys taken at several radii and from the usual over-all measurements of temperature, pressure, and air flow. The average value of the friction coefficient through the entire diffuser was approximately 50 percent higher than that for fully developed turbulent flow in smooth pipes. Friction coefficients at the diffuser entrance were about three times the pipe values. In the middle of the diffuser, the friction coefficients agreed well with smooth-pipe values.

Book Internal Flow

Download or read book Internal Flow written by E. M. Greitzer and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2007-02-26 with total page 739 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book describes the analysis and behaviour of internal flows encountered in propulsion systems, fluid machinery (compressors, turbines and pumps) and ducts (diffusers, nozzles and combustion chambers). The focus is on phenomena that are important in setting the performance of a broad range of fluid devices. The authors show that even for complex processes one can learn a great deal about the behaviour of such devices from a clear understanding and rigorous use of basic principles. Throughout the book they illustrate theoretical principles by reference to technological applications. The strong emphasis on fundamentals, however, means that the ideas presented can be applied beyond internal flow to other types of fluid motion. The book equips students and practising engineers with a range of new analytical tools. These tools offer enhanced interpretation and application of both experimental measurements and the computational procedures that characterize modern fluids engineering.

Book Stresses and Deformations in Wings Subjected to Torsion

Download or read book Stresses and Deformations in Wings Subjected to Torsion written by B. F. Ruffner and published by . This book was released on 1952 with total page 676 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Basic equations of Karman and Chien are solved by representing the shape of a torsion box by means of a Fourier series. Angles of twist, longitudinal stresses, and shear stresses are determined in terms of the series coefficients. The method is applied to the calculation of angles of twist and stresses in torsion boxes of rectangular, elliptical, and airfoil cross section. Results obtained for angles of twist and normal stresses are in good agreement with results of Karman and Chien except at sharp corners. Results obtained for shear stresses indicate the necessity for the use of large number of terms of the series for satisfactory accuracy.

Book Radial Flow Turbocompressors

Download or read book Radial Flow Turbocompressors written by Michael Casey and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2021-06-10 with total page 790 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An introduction to the theory and engineering practice that underpins the component design and analysis of radial flow turbocompressors. Drawing upon an extensive theoretical background and years of practical experience, the authors provide descriptions of applications, concepts, component design, analysis tools, performance maps, flow stability, and structural integrity, with illustrative examples. Features wide coverage of all types of radial compressor over many applications unified by the consistent use of dimensional analysis. Discusses the methods needed to analyse the performance, flow, and mechanical integrity that underpin the design of efficient centrifugal compressors with good flow range and stability. Includes explanation of the design of all radial compressor components, including inlet guide vanes, impellers, diffusers, volutes, return channels, de-swirl vanes and side-streams. Suitable as a reference for advanced students of turbomachinery, and a perfect tool for practising mechanical and aerospace engineers already within the field and those just entering it.

Book Experimental Investigation of a Model of a Two stage Turboblower

Download or read book Experimental Investigation of a Model of a Two stage Turboblower written by S. Dovjik and published by . This book was released on 1943 with total page 628 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the present paper an investigation is made of two stages of a multistage turboblower having a vaneless diffuser behind the impeller and guide vanes at the inlet to the nest stage. The method employed was that of investigating the performance of the successive elements of the blower (the impeller, vaneless diffuser, ets.) whereby the kinematics of the flow through the blower could be followed and the pressure at the different points computed. The character of the flow and the physical significance of the loss coefficients could thereby be determined so as to secure the best agreement of the computed with the actual performance of the blower. Since the tests were carried out for various delivery volumes, the dependence of the coefficients on a number of factors (angle of attack, velocities, etc.) could be obtained. The distribution of the losses that occur during the transformation of dynamic pressure at the impeller exit into static pressure could be found and likewise the range within which the friction coefficient varies in the vaneless diffuser. With the aid of factors having a certain physical significance, the centrifugal blower could be computed on the basis of a more or less schematical consideration of the phenomena occuring during the air flow through it, and the use of arbitrary factors and recourse to the geometrical similtude law thus avoided. The present investigation largely summarizes all the previous work af the CHI Blower Section on the different elements of a centrifugal blower. Some considerations on the analysis of model test data for application to full-scale are presented in the appendix.
