Book International Students in French Universities and Grandes coles A Comparative Study

Download or read book International Students in French Universities and Grandes coles A Comparative Study written by Cui Bian and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-08-22 with total page 275 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book mainly investigates the challenges that confront France’s unique dual system of higher education in facing internationalization and the recruitment of international students. This book focuses on the development of the institutional strategies in two groups of higher education institutions: University and Grande École in responding to the opportunities and stresses of both Europe’s Bologna process and globalization. The research data presents in this book was collected from four local institutions, two Grandes Écoles and two universities, one of each focusing on the social sciences and the other on natural sciences and technology. Interviews with major stakeholders in the institutions, including personnel from international offices, faculty/researchers and international students were adopted as principal methods for data collection. The thematic organization of the findings in each chapter covers views from three levels of stakeholders’ and interprets the results within theoretical frames, such as institutional theories, world-system theory, international academic relationship theory and branding theory. Readers will find this book both practical and innovative in four key ways. Firstly, in knowledge diffusion, revealing the mysterious veil of the unique French dual higher education system. Secondly, in new knowledge production, exploring a new subject of research and filling the blanks from previous studies of the two groups of institutions. Thirdly, in presenting new interesting sights into current reforms in Frances’s higher education and how far principles of path dependency will ensure strong continuities with the past as against a tendency to homogenization in response to pressures from Europeanization and global ranking systems. Finally, in exploring the dimension of interculturality and the interplay between researcher’s identity and research process.

Book The Foundations of Adult Education

Download or read book The Foundations of Adult Education written by Assoa Ettien and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2010-10 with total page 37 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Essay from the year 2010 in the subject Pedagogy - Adult Education, grade: A, Atlantic International University, course: The Foundation of Adult Education, language: English, abstract: This piece of work was an opportunity for us to view Adult Education from the historical point. Indeed, we tried to define what adult education is and how it emerged, developed through time and space. About time and space, we moved to the French speaking Africa, particularly to Ivory Coast to present how Adult Education, particularly Andragogy is perceived by the people and by the government. Then we tried to show how Andragogy should be understood and why it is important and urgent to incorporate andragogic principles to teachers' training. At this information technology age, continuing to be submitted to pedagogic principles refers to refuse development, but we preferred the option of progressive changes. That is why we first proposed collaboration between Andragogy and Pedagogy as a transition for all the educative community to know better andragogic principles and be prepared for the change. In order to prepare them for the change, future teachers must be exposed to the new principles that consist in learning how to learn rather than being taught. We hope that this will prepare future teachers' minds for the real change for a fully learner-centered, self-directed and auto-learning! The full use of andragogic principles must be perceived as a democratization of knowledge. To use Mark Esposito's words (2007), continuing with Pedagogy means that we decide to rely on others to tell us "what to learn", "how to learn it" and also "when to learn". How and why can we accept to be so dependent? When are we going to take the responsibility to "kill our masters", the pedagogic teachers and be our own masters, meet our own learning needs, and demand all training providers to do the same?

Book Language Mobility Identity

Download or read book Language Mobility Identity written by Agnieszka Bron and published by LIT Verlag Münster. This book was released on 2000 with total page 246 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: " With the first volume of Bochum Studies in International Adult Education we are launching a new series of publications from the Chair of Adult Education at the Ruhr-University of Bochum. BSIAE addresses not only researchers, university teachers and students of adult education but also those from related disciplines. While not explicitly addressing practitioners, except for providing them with up-to-date research overviews, each issue will also address politicans and policy makers. Each volume will be organised around one topic or issue which is of interest, importance or of particular relevance for adult education in general. This particular topic will be considered from various points of view, i. e. comparative, historical, gender, socio-political and cultural. The first volume of BSIAE intends to look closely at the topcis Language - Mobility - Identity and attempts to discuss these issues from the point of view of adult education. The intention of this volume is to create a compilation of different viewpoints and critical analyses on the three topics which together form an overview of their interrelation and their relevance for European development, adult education and adult's learning.
