Book The Fringe Candidate

Book excerpt: A race against evil . . . and time — Delivering a simple truth can be the most courageous act — — Exposing evil rulers is a game of life or death — Led to the brink of destruction by its corrupt POTUS, Amberica is bleaker than ever. Who could hope to unseat Oscar Wellian, a fascist who wields the full force of martial law? Plenty are willing to try, but only one entrant has what it takes to give Oscar a run for his ill-gotten gains. Enter Angeline Tarkington . . . the people’s final hope. Despite her heart of gold and concrete ideals, it won’t be easy. Is Tarkington’s integrity enough to combat systemic corruption and heal a hemorrhaging nation? An amalgam of corporate interests known as ‘The Triumvirate’ will stop at nothing to silence her, and Tarkington can’t expect victory without sacrifice. Tarkington’s ability to transform those around her will be put to the ultimate test, as new allies may mean the difference between victory and defeat, but will they join her? In any case, she’ll need to tread very carefully. Unmasking a monster will be an invitation to an all-out duel with the nation as the prize. With The Fringe Candidate, Brad Swift offers readers a picture of untold possibilities. The Amberica series is visionary fiction from a dreamer’s apex—dark and doubly daring for its optimistic soul. Pick up your copy today and begin to hope for a better future today! Early Reviews: Are You Kidding Me! Terrific and timely political fiction laced with humor. In 2020 one candidate for the Presidency could change everything The Fringe Candidate, by Brad Swift, is inspired by Marianne Williamson, a candidate in the 2020 elections against Donald Trump for the Presidency. While this is a fictional story, it is 100% on the mark with regards to the state of America’s political system, showing without apology or pulling any punches, that it has clearly been hijacked by those with money and power. Knocking you out of your sox. I simply had to smile a number of times what with the naming convention followed in the naming of the major characters. Oscar Wellian? Orwellian allegorical in nature? However thinly disguised the naming convention, there is no disguising the fact that The Fringe Candidate is a major political commentary on American elective procedures. If judging on the first book, The Fringe Candidate, the Amberica series is going to knock a whole lot more readers out of more than just their sox. You'll laugh, scream, throw the book, cry, and who knows what else? I mean, let's face it, the names are... well, they're not very well disguised. The President who tweets constantly, with the Orwellian (clearly) name and complex (also clear)... The complete unknown who comes from nowhere to take on the fight to win the Presidency... there's so much to dissect here, it's hard to really get into, and without spoilers? Yikes! The Power of Truth and Desire I loved the intrigue and the ease with which the story flowed, first. Secondly, I liked how what seems impossible can become possible. I think we all need models of that in our lives, certainly, I do. Most of all I enjoyed seeing how the love or desire for something can make a huge difference in one's life. Laugh, curse, and a good story to enjoy This is very closely tied to our election process, for better or worse. A good insight into what happens behind the scenes. It will make you laugh, piss you off and make you want to read it. Enjoy and vote. A great read I really enjoyed this story and the way that it gave a look at what our government is doing. The editing was done very well throughout the book, to me it was more worth read and I am eagerly awaiting the next book in this series.

Book excerpt: Launched in 1977 by the Christian Broadcasting Service (originally associated with Pat Robertson), the ABC Family/Freeform network has gone through a number of changes in name and ownership. Over the past decade, the network--now owned by Disney--has redefined "family programming" for its targeted 14- to 34-year-old demographic, addressing topics like lesbian and gay parenting, postfeminism and changing perceptions of women, the issue of race in the U.S., and the status of disability in American culture. This collection of new essays examines the network from a variety of perspectives, with a focus on inclusive programming that has created a space for underrepresented communities like transgender youth, overweight teens, and the deaf.

Book excerpt: I have always felt in my heart, yes, we can have it all. I didn't grow up in a religious environment, so I was given the freedom to seek my own spiritual journey. Everything opened up for me, after receiving ‘a gift’ during an angelic visitation, which occurred on January 11, 2011 at 1:00 a.m. Love all the ones ... angels! It just so happens to be my stepfather’s birthday. (He passed over November 7, 2006). I began writing poetry with ease, something that, in the past, has never been a forte of mine. It has taken me just over a year to work out exactly what this gift is, and I am now helping others to heal, transmuting their negative energy and giving them the self-empowerment to transform their lives and live in joy. I am in the process of writing a book about this experience, the events leading up to this and what has transpired since. This experience has changed my life. I find myself saying, this is the best I have felt in my whole life. All I can say is, blessings to God for answering my prayers, I am grateful.

Book Death and Rebirth in a Southern City

Download or read book Death and Rebirth in a Southern City written by Ryan K. Smith and published by JHU Press. This book was released on 2020-11-17 with total page 329 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This exploration of Richmond's burial landscape over the past 300 years reveals in illuminating detail how racism and the color line have consistently shaped death, burial, and remembrance in this storied Southern capital. Richmond, Virginia, the former capital of the Confederacy, holds one of the most dramatic landscapes of death in the nation. Its burial grounds show the sweep of Southern history on an epic scale, from the earliest English encounters with the Powhatan at the falls of the James River through slavery, the Civil War, and the long reckoning that followed. And while the region's deathways and burial practices have developed in surprising directions over these centuries, one element has remained stubbornly the same: the color line. But something different is happening now. The latest phase of this history points to a quiet revolution taking place in Virginia and beyond. Where white leaders long bolstered their heritage and authority with a disregard for the graves of the disenfranchised, today activist groups have stepped forward to reorganize and reclaim the commemorative landscape for the remains of people of color and religious minorities. In Death and Rebirth in a Southern City, Ryan K. Smith explores more than a dozen of Richmond's most historically and culturally significant cemeteries. He traces the disparities between those grounds which have been well-maintained, preserving the legacies of privileged whites, and those that have been worn away, dug up, and built over, erasing the memories of African Americans and indigenous tribes. Drawing on extensive oral histories and archival research, Smith unearths the heritage of these marginalized communities and explains what the city must do to conserve these gravesites and bring racial equity to these arenas for public memory. He also shows how the ongoing recovery efforts point to a redefinition of Confederate memory and the possibility of a rebirthed community in the symbolic center of the South. The book encompasses, among others, St. John's colonial churchyard; African burial grounds in Shockoe Bottom and on Shockoe Hill; Hebrew Cemetery; Hollywood Cemetery, with its 18,000 Confederate dead; Richmond National Cemetery; and Evergreen Cemetery, home to tens of thousands of black burials from the Jim Crow era. Smith's rich analysis of the surviving grounds documents many of these sites for the first time and is enhanced by an accompanying website, www.richmondcemeteries.org. A brilliant example of public history, Death and Rebirth in a Southern City reveals how cemeteries can frame changes in politics and society across time.
