Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Remember me? I am your idea, your opinion, your imagination, produced by thinking. I am to be or not to be. Con-tem-plate me. I am neural activity especially mostly in the more modern outer layer of your brain or, should I say, cortex, reminiscent of that caused by various experiences and sensations but which you can manipulate to your liking, your aims, your desires. Remember me? I come from the simplest reactions to stimuli and instincts; I have evolved the capacity of learning. The more you use me for righteousness, the more sophisticated your ability to anticipate and estimate outcomes. The more you use me for righteousness, the more you will be able to figure solutions to problems. I am of great value to you. I am your psychoanalysis; explore me for if you explore me, I will introduce you to biology, psychology, and even philosophy. Who put this thing together? Me. Who built this? Me. Who do I trust, who do I trust? Me. That is who I trust who am I? I am a thought! Why not get to know me better?
Download or read book Core Christianity written by Michael Horton and published by Zondervan. This book was released on 2016-04-05 with total page 193 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What beliefs are core to the Christian faith? This book is here to help you understand the reason for your hope as a Christian so that you can see it with fresh sight and invite others into the conversation. A lot of Christians take their story—the narratives that give rise to their beliefs—for granted. They pray, go to church, perhaps even read their Bible. But they might be stuck if a stranger asked them to explain what they believe and why they believe it. Author, pastor, and theologian Mike Horton unpacks the essential and basic beliefs that all Christians share in a way that is easy to understand and applicable to our lives today. And in a way that will make you excited to be a Christian! Core Christianity covers topics like: Jesus as both fully God and fully man. The doctrine of the Trinity. The goodness of God despite a broken world. The ways God speaks. The meaning of salvation. What is the Christian calling? Includes discussion questions for individual or group use. This introduction to the basic doctrines of Christianity is perfect for those who are new to the faith, as well as those who have an interest in deepening their understanding of what it means to be a follower of Jesus Christ.

Download or read book Man At The Cross written by Rev. Bagan Tewa and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2012-08-27 with total page 411 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: MAN AT THE CROSS seeks simply to awaken the feminine intuitive side of the human race which seems to be dormant in our male-dominated society because it comes to the conclusion that if we are to learn lessons from the past in order to affect much needed change, looking at the structure of ancient societies that were peaceful and in harmony with God and nature, it was the woman who was at the head. And if she was not at the head she had equal power in these societies. This book does this through an honest soul-searching approach to looking at our past history. It is prophetic, profound and insightful in its reach from the United States, Europe, the Caribbean and everywhere else in between. The reader is sure to be engaged as the author moves naturally to and from the voice of a layman to prophetic wisdom as Reverend speaking here from this pulpit which compels all to listen and pay attention.
Download or read book Becoming and Being written by Colin E. Gunton and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2011-05-26 with total page 273 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Becoming and Being presents an analysis and comparison of two influential modern approaches to the doctrine of God. Although they are in many respects diametrically opposed, the one finding its basis in biblical revelation and steeped in the tradition of trinitarian reflection, the other relying on pure speculative reason, there are numerous and surprising points of contact. The second edition offers a new conclusion by the author, in which he responds to his critics, and reflects on how his views have changed and remained the same in the intervening years. While providing useful portraits of its two central thinkers, Barth and Hartshorne, the book will also serve as a fine introduction to the rational basis of theology, as well as providing insight into some of the perennial questions arising from belief in God.
Download or read book The Development and Antidevelopment Debate written by Martha Jalali Rabbani and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-03-16 with total page 197 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Reflecting on the philosophical assumptions that sustain the development debate, Rabbani analyzes how the modern project of development and the antidevelopment discourse reduce the human condition to a struggle for self-preservation and, likewise, social and international cooperation to a strategic and self-defeating process. The book centers on core inconsistencies in the rationale of both discourses as they stand for individual autonomy, collective self-determination and mutual respect. Building these social goals around the requirement of ’non-interference’ in individual or collective affairs, neither discourse can practically enhance nor coherently sustain respect to people’s freedom and diversity. The author argues that any real alternative to the normative reductions and actual destructions carried on by international development theory and practice would have to recover the non-contingent solidarity implied in people’s search for self-understanding. Awareness of this human condition, in its turn, actively fosters relations of universal inclusion and global friendship. Instructors and graduate and undergraduate students in the fields of peace studies, development studies, political sciences and political philosophy; professionals and volunteers working in governmental and non-governmental organizations and development agencies will find this volume ideally fit for purpose.

Download or read book A Book of Metaethics written by Andrew Minase and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2000-12 with total page 174 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Philosophy needs a nonphilosophy that comprehends it; it needs a nonphilosophical comprehension just as art needs nonart and science needs nonscience. The entire set of moral functions here requires at least five variables as shown: two subject matters, cause level, time, and the transformation of moral values as the result of initiative taken by a moral agent. In principle, moral autonomy is expanded by the increase in energy produced through the process of interactions between de dicto morality and de re morality. Time is only part of one's ethical succession process. Hatred blocks the way that love reaches the verdict. Both love and hatred can give a cause to judge people and matters around them. Soul composes of one's spirit, mind and contingencies to its own destiny. Love of the meek does not contest justice. The subjects of love deliver love of the meek to find them in the domain of the humble, from where the subject's moral succession begins.
Download or read book Collateral Language written by John Collins and published by NYU Press. This book was released on 2002-11-01 with total page 238 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Thirteen essays contextualizing the new meanings around certain words and phrases in the post-9/11 discourse Terrorism, jihad, fundamentalism, blowback. These and other highly charged terms have saturated news broadcasts and everyday conversation since September 11th. But to keen ears their meanings change depending upon who's doing the talking. So what do these words really mean? And what are people trying to say when they use them? Each of the thirteen essays in Collateral Language offers an informed perspective on a particular word or phrase that serves as a building block in the edifice of post-World Trade Center rhetoric. In some cases this involves a systematic examination of the term in question (e.g. "anthrax" or "unity")its historical roots, the development of its meaning and usage in the U.S. over time, and its employment in the current context. In other cases authors provide a set of more philosophical or autobiographical reflections on a particular idea (e.g. "vital interests" or "evil"), suggesting a need to consider the ethical and moral implications of using the concept uncritically. In every instance, however, the overriding goal is to give the reader a set of practical tools to analyze the political language that surrounds all of us at this critical point in our nation's history. Witty, informative and highly readable, Collateral Language is a lexicon of political terminology and an indispensable tool for understanding the current conflict.
