Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill. For assuredly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle will by no means pass from the law till all is fulfilled....' Matthew 5:17 Did you know that God promised His new covenant to the House of Israel? Does this exclude Gentile Christians? Who are His people Israel? Is the new covenant a new set of laws to replace the old? You may or may not know that the new covenant is not based on laws or documents but on a person. The new covenant is about relationships—a new relationship to justice, to God's law, and even to God Himself. It is expressed in the life and words of Jesus Christ. But how are we to interpret His life and words? What is the freedom found in the new covenant relationship? Is it freedom to live any way we want? Are there commands given in the new covenant that are specific to that covenant? Christians often stumble when it comes to understanding the work of God's grace from the Old Testament through the New. But an understanding of the covenant God made through the person of Jesus Christ is vital to knowing how to walk in the Spirit every day. Brown reveals the new covenant in a way that is scholarly but accessible, seasoned with salt as well as grace. The Covenant of Freedom illuminates the covenant narrative from Genesis to Revelation and what lies at the heart of Christianity, the promise of God.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Historian Mark Noll has written that historic Pietism "breathed a badly needed vitality" into post-Reformation Europe. Now the time has come for Pietism to revitalize Christianity in post-Christendom America. In The Pietist Option, Christopher Gehrz, a historian of Pietism, and Mark Pattie, a pastor in the Pietist tradition, show how Pietism holds great promise for the church—and the world—today. Modeled after Philipp Spener's 1675 classic, Pia Desideria, this timely book makes a case for the vitality of Pietism in our day. Taking a hard look at American evangelicalism and why it needs renewal, Gehrz and Pattie explore the resources that Pietism can provide the church of the twenty-first century. This concise and winsome volume serves as a practical guide to the Pietist ethos for life and ministry, pointing us toward the renewal so many long for. The Pietist Option introduces Pietism to those who don't know it—and reintroduces it to those who perceive it as an outdated and inward-focused spirituality, a nitpicking divisiveness, or an anti-intellectual withdrawal. With its emphasis on our walk with Jesus and its vibrant hope for a better future, Pietism connects decisively with the ideas and issues of our day. Here is a revitalizing option for all who desire to be faithful and fruitful in God's mission.

Book The New Covenant

Download or read book The New Covenant written by Reinhard Hirtler and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2017-06-23 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In my opinion, the New Covenant is one of the most misunderstood subjects in the Church today. Many years ago, I wrote a blog about it and triggered reactions I never expected in my wildest dreams. Some of the reactions were very strong and aggressive and did not come from unbelievers but from well-meaning Christians, church leaders, and pastors. Generally speaking, there has been a mixture of the Old and New Covenants in the lives of Christians. Throughout most of church history, in belief and practice, the Church mixed these two Covenants, which greatly limited the expression of the life and power of Jesus Christ through her. Because the mixing of the two Covenants has been the norm rather than the exception, some of the teachings in this book might seem strange to you. If we have been accustomed to doing things in error for generations, then the right way will seem wrong to us. This book will transform your life forever

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In an age of decreasing denominational loyalty, questions of identity have become important. Both church members and inquirers wonder what to make of a denomination's core values, mission, and common practices. Because the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) was born as a movement of reform on the American frontier during the early nineteenth century, it is marked by the time and place of its birth. The message it offered at the time was one of Christian unity rooted in theological simplicity and freedom of belief and practice. This message influenced the way the tradition came to understand biblical interpretation, theology, the sacraments, ministry, and its eschatology. As the movement matured, many recognized that this message of freedom could lead to unfettered individualism and tended to undermine congregational life and cooperation beyond the congregation. In response, Disciples leaders turned to the biblical idea of covenant to balance the message of freedom and link congregations with other forms of church without creating hierarchical systems. If, as some have suggested, this is a movement whose time has come, then it is important to understand the movement's identity and core values, which have been formed within the fulcrum of the tension existing between freedom and covenant.

Book The Royal Law of Liberty

Download or read book The Royal Law of Liberty written by Darwin Chandler and published by Trafford Publishing. This book was released on 2003 with total page 512 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a frontal assault on all law based, obedience oriented religion. Most Christians carry a load of spiritual bondage, condemnation, guilt and shame. Some are deeply despondent and depressed because this load is too heavy for them to bear. Few Christians are truly confident in their personal relationship with God. This situation exists because: 1) Christians are generally unable to distinguish between actual sin versus mere human opinion about sin; 2) Christians do not understand that Jesus set them free from obedience based religion; 3) Christians do not know how to decide for themselves what is truly moral; 4) Christians have no real experience of "Christian Liberty." These issues are examined in sufficient detail to enable one to understand the radical nature of the "freedom for which Christ set us free," (Gal. 5:1). The author's goal is to destroy the roots of religious legalism so Christian believers can live the life of freedom which is their spiritual "blood-right." Beginning with a development of the "Master Key" to Biblical morality, the nature and implications of Christ's "Law of Love" are thoroughly explored. Next, the author discusses the true nature of morality, answering the question, "What exactly makes a thing sinful?" Careful attention is given to the concept of "defilement" or "uncleanness," with a bold look at Paul's revolutionary statement that "nothing is unclean of itself," (Rom. 14:14, 20). In Part Three, Legalism is exposed in all its ugliness. This section details the Biblical method for determining what is truly sin, and what is merely human opinion. Part Four destroys the bitter root of Legalism with persistent emphasis on the fact that Jesus Christ ended the rule of law by His life, death and resurrection. Part Five looks at the theology of Galatians, the Christian's "Emancipation Proclamation," closing with pointed illustration of how this all affects a Christian's liberty to exercise personal choice in what (s)he will or won't do. Five appendices explore several specific issues raised by the preceding study. These include: Conclusions About Christian Liberty "Contradictory" Scriptures? Christian Liberty and Sexual Issues The Necessity Of Experiencing Freedom The Non-Negotiables of Bible Study This is the only book on Christian Freedom written by an ex Fundamentalist. The author was raised in an atmosphere of extreme legalism. The first half of his Christian ministry was spent preaching, defending and even debating the concepts that he now seeks to destroy. The author lived in legalism forty years. He understands legalism. He therefore knows how to attack its vulnerable spots. His goal was not to write a book, but to give to anyone who is interested, information that will set them free from bondage to legalism and open the pathway to self-government under the rule of love. Book In God s Shadow

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this eagerly awaited book, political theorist Michael Walzer reports his findings after decades of reading and thinking about the politics of the Hebrew Bible. Attentive to nuance while engagingly straightforward, Walzer examines the commentary of the ancient biblical writers and discusses the implications for such urgent modern topics as the nature of political society, hierarchy and justice, the use of political power, the justification for and rules of warfare, and the responsibilities of clerical figures, monarchs, and their subjects./divDIV DIVBecause there are many biblical writers, and because they represent different political views, pluralism is a central feature of biblical politics, Walzer observes. Yet pluralism is never explicitly defended in the Bible—indeed it couldn't be defended since God's word is one. There is, however, an anti-political teaching which recurs in biblical texts: if you have faith in God, you have no need for particular political institutions or prudent political leaders or deliberative assemblies or loyal citizens. And, Walzer finds a strong moral teaching common to the Bible's authors. He identifies God's decree for ethics and investigates its implications for just policymaking in our own times./div

Book excerpt: No matter your circumstance, everyone is born with a birthright and an inheritance. God has promised this inheritance to each and every one of us, although many of us may not know how to access our birthright—and some of us may not even know what we will inherit. Birthright of Freedom is an in-depth Bible study centered on the Old Testament book of Judges. It focuses on seven major oppressors of Israel during that period, explaining their origins and the generational sins that typified their relationship with Israel. The study looks at the importance of covenant, covenant blessings, and consequences of covenant violations. There is opportunity to discover contemporary manifestations of those same generational curses, using the biblical model to deal with generational sin. Alongside each curse, authors Doyle & Rebecca Musser look at the covenant blessings God has given us through the redemptive gifts and the redeemer himself, Jesus. As Jesus proclaimed, we are all heirs to the throne of the kingdom of God, and he has given us the freedom to claim our place alongside him in this coming kingdom. By identifying the specific areas that hold us back from the freedom God intends, you too can apply the Word to your life and begin following kingdom protocol.
