Book French Scientific and Cultural Diplomacy

Download or read book French Scientific and Cultural Diplomacy written by Philippe Lane and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2013 with total page 153 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: France has long pursued active cultural and scientific diplomacy, historically aiming to both ensure and celebrate the international presence of France in language, culture, communication, higher education, and research. French Scientific and Cultural Diplomacy asks whether such diplomacy is in danger. Examining the network of embassies, cultural institutions, and various agencies across a range of sectors, it asks whether and how French diplomatic efforts aimed at helping artists, cultural professionals, teachers, researchers, and intellectuals can be improved, arguing for a coherent foreign policy that better connects disparate sectors and promotes stronger partnerships.

Book Je T Aime Moi Non Plus

Download or read book Je T Aime Moi Non Plus written by Lucy Mazdon and published by Berghahn Books. This book was released on 2010-11-01 with total page 301 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A series of limiting definitions have tended to delineate the Franco-British cinematic relationship. As this collection of essays reveals, there is much more to it than simple oppositions between British critical esteem for the films of France and French dismissal of ‘le cinéma British’, or the success of Ken Loach et al. at the French box office and the relative dearth of French movies on British screens. In fact, there has long been a rich and productive dialogue between these two cultures in which both their clear differences and their shared concerns have played a vital role. This book provides an overview of the history of these relations from the early days of sound cinema to the present day. The chapters, written by leading experts in the history of French, British and European cinema, provide insights into relations between French and British cinematic cultures at the level of production, exhibition and distribution, reception, representation and personnel. The book features a diverse range of studies, including: the exhibition of French cinema in Britain in the 1930s, contemporary ‘extreme’ French cinema, stars such as Annabella, David Niven and Jane Birkin and the French Resistance on British screens.

Book Balance of Power and Norm Hierarchy Franco British Diplomacy after the Peace of Utrecht

Download or read book Balance of Power and Norm Hierarchy Franco British Diplomacy after the Peace of Utrecht written by Frederik Dhondt and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2015-05-19 with total page 648 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Balance of Power and Norm Hierarchy: Franco-British Diplomacy after the Peace of Utrecht offers a detailed study of French and British diplomacy in the age of ‘Walpole and Fleury’. After Louis XIV’s decease, European international relations were dominated by the collaboration between James Stanhope and Guillaume Dubois. Their alliance focused on the amendment and enlargement of the peace treaties of Utrecht, Rastatt and Baden. In-depth analysis of vast archival material uncovers the practical legal arguments used between Hampton Court and Versailles. ‘Balance of Power’ or ‘Tranquillity of Europe’ were in fact metaphors for the predominance of treaty law even over the most fundamental municipal norms. An implacable logic of norm hierarchy allowed to consolidate peace in Europe.

Book The United Kingdom s Defence After Brexit

Download or read book The United Kingdom s Defence After Brexit written by Rob Johnson and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-09-25 with total page 269 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This new work examines how the European states, the United Kingdom and the United States will approach the defence and Security of Europe in the medium and long-term. It is often assumed that Brexit, the United Kingdom’s departure from the political and commercial European Union, would affect defence and security profoundly, but the basis of that assumption is rarely analysed. Bringing together a panel of specialists from Europe, the UK, the EU, and the United States, this volume evaluates the relative position they play in Europe’s defence in the era of Brexit. It examines the arguments, challenges, and problems in European defence, and tests them against the residual commitment, cohesion, and capabilities of the states concerned, including Anglo-French military co-operation, the silent Anglo-German partnership, the US-UK Special Relationship, and the emergent Northern Group.

Book France and Britain 1940 1994

Download or read book France and Britain 1940 1994 written by P. M. H Bell and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2014-09-25 with total page 310 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the second volume in Philip Bell's study of Franco-British relations in the twentieth century It covers the period from the Fall of France in 1940 to the opening of the Channel Tunnel. Philip Bell views the half-century as a long separation - with France committed early on to a new concept of Europe, in partnership with Germany, whilst Britain stood apart. The tensions and resentments it has generated have kept French/British relations at the very heart of the burning question of Britain's place in Europe. Yet the story has another side, to which Philip Bell also does justice. Much has been achieved by the two countries together and alongside their European partners. For all their divergencies and antagonisms, the French and British know and understand each other better today than at any other time in their modern histories and all these developments are fully explored in Philip Bell's engrossing and often amusing, account.

It analyses major trends and developments in cross-border post-secondary education in North America, Europe and the Asia-Pacific region. It identifies the rationales of stakeholders and the major approaches to cross-border education. It then focuses on the main challenges that the rapid growth in cross-border education presents for policies both at the national and international levels.

Book International Students in French Universities and Grandes coles A Comparative Study

Download or read book International Students in French Universities and Grandes coles A Comparative Study written by Cui Bian and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-08-22 with total page 275 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book mainly investigates the challenges that confront France’s unique dual system of higher education in facing internationalization and the recruitment of international students. This book focuses on the development of the institutional strategies in two groups of higher education institutions: University and Grande École in responding to the opportunities and stresses of both Europe’s Bologna process and globalization. The research data presents in this book was collected from four local institutions, two Grandes Écoles and two universities, one of each focusing on the social sciences and the other on natural sciences and technology. Interviews with major stakeholders in the institutions, including personnel from international offices, faculty/researchers and international students were adopted as principal methods for data collection. The thematic organization of the findings in each chapter covers views from three levels of stakeholders’ and interprets the results within theoretical frames, such as institutional theories, world-system theory, international academic relationship theory and branding theory. Readers will find this book both practical and innovative in four key ways. Firstly, in knowledge diffusion, revealing the mysterious veil of the unique French dual higher education system. Secondly, in new knowledge production, exploring a new subject of research and filling the blanks from previous studies of the two groups of institutions. Thirdly, in presenting new interesting sights into current reforms in Frances’s higher education and how far principles of path dependency will ensure strong continuities with the past as against a tendency to homogenization in response to pressures from Europeanization and global ranking systems. Finally, in exploring the dimension of interculturality and the interplay between researcher’s identity and research process.
