Book Fractal Analysis and Chaos in Geosciences

Download or read book Fractal Analysis and Chaos in Geosciences written by Sid-Ali Ouadfeul and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2012-11-14 with total page 186 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The fractal analysis is becoming a very useful tool to process obtained data from chaotic systems in geosciences. It can be used to resolve many ambiguities in this domain. This book contains eight chapters showing the recent applications of the fractal/mutifractal analysis in geosciences. Two chapters are devoted to applications of the fractal analysis in climatology, two of them to data of cosmic and solar geomagnetic data from observatories. Four chapters of the book contain some applications of the (multi-) fractal analysis in exploration geophysics. I believe that the current book is an important source for researchers and students from universities.

Book Fractals and Chaos in Geology and Geophysics

Download or read book Fractals and Chaos in Geology and Geophysics written by Donald Lawson Turcotte and published by . This book was released on 1992 with total page 221 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book introduces the fundamental concepts of fractal geometry and chaotic dynamics. These concepts are then related to a variety of geological and geophysical problems, illustrating just what chaos theory and fractals really tell us and how they can be applied to the earth sciences. Petroleum and mineral reserves, earthquakes, mantle convection and magnetic field generation are among the earth's properties that come under scrutiny. This is the first book that covers these topics at an accessible level; the concepts are introduced at the lowest possible level of mathematics and are consistently understandable, so that the reader requires only a background in basic physics and mathematics. Problems are also included for the reader to solve.

Book Fractal Models in Exploration Geophysics

Download or read book Fractal Models in Exploration Geophysics written by V.P. Dimri and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-07-17 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Researchers in the field of exploration geophysics have developed new methods for the acquisition, processing and interpretation of gravity and magnetic data, based on detailed investigations of bore wells around the globe. Fractal Models in Exploration Geophysics describes fractal-based models for characterizing these complex subsurface geological structures. The authors introduce the inverse problem using a fractal approach which they then develop with the implementation of a global optimization algorithm for seismic data: very fast simulated annealing (VFSA). This approach provides high-resolution inverse modeling results-particularly useful for reservoir characterization. Serves as a valuable resource for researchers studying the application of fractals in exploration, and for practitioners directly applying field data for geo-modeling Discusses the basic principles and practical applications of time-lapse seismic reservoir monitoring technology - application rapidly advancing topic Provides the fundamentals for those interested in reservoir geophysics and reservoir simulation study Demonstrates an example of reservoir simulation for enhanced oil recovery using CO2 injection

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Just 23 years ago Benoit Mandelbrot published his famous picture of the Mandelbrot set, but that picture has changed our view of the mathematical and physical universe. In this text, Mandelbrot offers 25 papers from the past 25 years, many related to the famous inkblot figure. Of historical interest are some early images of this fractal object produced with a crude dot-matrix printer. The text includes some items not previously published.

Book Applications of Fractals and Chaos

Download or read book Applications of Fractals and Chaos written by A.J. Crilly and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 312 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Applications of Fractals and Chaos presents new developments in this rapidlydeveloping subject area. The presentation is more than merely theoretical, it specifically presents particular applications in a wide range of applications areas. Under the oceans, we consider the ways in which sponges and corals grow; we look, too, at the stability of ships on their surfaces. Land itself is modelled and applications to art, medicineand camouflage are presented. Readers should find general interest in the range of areas considered and should also be able to discover methods of value for their own specific areas of interest from studying the structure of related activities.

Book Fractals and Multifractals in the Geosciences

Download or read book Fractals and Multifractals in the Geosciences written by Behnam Sadeghi and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2024-06-03 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fractals and Multifractals in the Geosciences details the application of a wide range of multifractal methods, including many novel ones developed by the author, along with the assessment of uncertainty in sample classification and stability of spatial patterns. This book also provides criteria for selection of the most effective combination of data pre-processing and multifractal modeling to extract desired features or signals in the data. The book specifically aims to introduce, apply, and test novel multifractal models that account directly for changes in relationships between variables, as well as the effects of distance between samples and the source of anomalous metal contents in geoscience samples. Linked to this will be assessment of the effects of different pre-processing of data prior to application of the models and quantification/model uncertainty in geochemical anomaly maps, associated with sample classification and spatial interpolation. Gaussian simulations such as Sequential Gaussian Simulation and Monte Carlo Simulation will be applied to the new multifractal models developed and a suite of existing models, including (simulated) concentration-area, spectrum-area, singularity and other models. Fractals and Multifractals in the Geosciences will be invaluable for mathematical geoscientists, geostatisticians, exploration, applied, urban and environmental geochemists, computational geoscientists, data scientists, and GIS professionals who need to better understand fractal geometry, along with its theory and applications in geochemical anomaly classification to generate maps that are helpful for decision-making for follow-up sampling and explorations. Provides a comprehensive overview of the use of fractal and multifractal modeling methods, with a detailed assessment of uncertainty quantification in samples and classified models Specifically includes novel multifractal models, as well as uncertainty quantification and decision-making methods for use in geosciences and especially geochemistry Includes case studies showing the application of the fractal and multifractal methods detailed in the book
