Book Four Super Gay Plays by Sean Abley

Download or read book Four Super Gay Plays by Sean Abley written by Sean Abley and published by Plays to Order. This book was released on 2016-02-02 with total page 186 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Four comedy plays by award-winning playwright Sean Abley: ATTACK OF THE KILLER Bs - While visiting their mother's grave in the cemetery, Glen and Barbara are attacked by the dead risen from the grave to feast upon the living. Glen is killed, but that doesn't stop him from coming back as a zombie to rescue his sister and flee Night of the Living Dead come to life. From Reefer Madness to Glen or Glenda, from Friday the 13th to Nightmare on Elm Street, from Attack of the 50 Foot Woman to Invasion of the Body Snatchers, Barbara and Glen battle their way from one B-movie menace to the next. Will they survive? BITCHES - Bitches is a unique comedy in that all the roles are women ... all played by men As she enters her senior year, Sindee Sandstone rules Susan B. Anthony High School. So when newcomer Angelatina Vindechi takes her place on the cheerleading squad, relegating the queen bee to dreaded "alternate" status, Sindee vows revenge. Driven by her overbearing mother, Charlene, Sindee coerces her fellow cheerleader Carmelle into killing Angelatina. Local talk show host, Paula DeMarcato, catches wind of the scandal and descends upon Tubbville to cover the story with tragic (and by tragic, we mean hilarious) results. CAMP KILLSPREE - 1970: Deep in the forest at the Hard Log Men's Resort a terrible murder takes place: The resort's owner catches his lover in the arms of another man and cuts them to bits with a chainsaw. 1984: Twenty years later (you're right, it doesn't add up), Hard Log has been renovated into Camp Community, a summer camp for gay teenagers. As soon as the group of hot male counselors arrive to open the camp, the clothes come off, the sex and pot smoking begin... and so do the murders by a mysterious masked killer. Sexy and hilarious, CAMP KILLSPREE is the perfect late-night gay horror sex comedy for ballsy queer theater companies. L.A. TOOL & DIE: LIVE! - A classic, pre-condom, gay adult film...live on stage! Follow Hank, the masculine working man, and Wiley, the shy (but masculine) cowboy as they make their way across the Heartland to Los Angeles. Along the way they meet many hot, handsome and (dare we say it?) masculine men, whose clothes seem to fly off at the drop of a hat. This ain't your father's late night comedy show! Based on Joe Gage's classic gay adult film of the same name, L.A. Tool & Die: Live! contains nudity, sex, and laughs in equal measure. This ain't your father's late night comedy show!

Book excerpt: It’s a faraway age of hope and inclusivity; in other words, it’s 2015. When a tight-knit circle of married gays and lesbians – comfy in the new mainstream – see themselves through the eyes of their rakish transgender pal, it’s clear that the march toward progress is anything but unified. With stinging satire and acute compassion, Jordan Harrison’s pointed comedy charts the breakdown of empathy that happens when we think our rights are secure, revealing conservative hearts where you’d least expect.

Book The Book of More Delights

Download or read book The Book of More Delights written by Ross Gay and published by Algonquin Books. This book was released on 2023-09-19 with total page 243 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From bestselling author of The Book of Delights and award-winning poet, a book of lyrical mini-essays celebrating the everyday that will inspire readers to rediscover the joys in the world around us. In Ross Gay’s new collection of small, daily wonders, again written over the course of a year, one of America’s most original voices continues his ongoing investigation of delight. For Gay, what delights us is what connects us, what gives us meaning, from the joy of hearing a nostalgic song blasting from a passing car to the pleasure of refusing the “nefarious” scannable QR code menus, from the tiny dog he fell hard for to his mother baking a dozen kinds of cookies for her grandchildren. As always, Gay revels in the natural world—sweet potatoes being harvested, a hummingbird carousing in the beebalm, a sunflower growing out of a wall around the cemetery, the shared bounty from a neighbor’s fig tree—and the trillion mysterious ways this glorious earth delights us. The Book of (More) Delights is a volume to savor and share.

Book excerpt: (Applause Books). Applause Theatre & Cinema Books is proud to announce the publication of the first collected anthology of gay and lesbian plays from the entire span of the twentieth century, sure to find wide acceptance by general readers and to be studied on campuses around the world. Among the ten plays, three are completely out of print. Included are The God of Venegeance (1918) by Sholom Ash, the first play to introduce lesbian characters to an English-language audience; Lillian Hellman's classic The Children's Hour (1933), initially banned in London and passed over for the Pulitzer Prize because of its subject matter; and Oscar Wilde (1938) by Leslie and Sewell Stokes, a major award-winning success that starred Robert Morley. More recent plays include Mart Crowley's The Boys in the Band (1968), the first hit "out" gay play that was the most realistic and groundbreaking portrayal of gays on stage up to that time; Martin Sherman's Bent (1978), which daringly focused on the love between two Nazi concentration camp inmates and starred Richard Gere; William Hoffman's As Is (1985), which was one of the first plays to deal with the AIDS crisis and earned three Tony Award nominations; and Terrence McNally's Love! Valour! Compassion! (1994), which starred Nathan Lane and won the Tony Award for Best Play. The other plays are Edouard Bourdet's The Captive (1926), Ruth and Augustus Goetz's The Immoralist (1954) and Frank Marcus' The Killing of Sister George (1967). Forbidden Acts includes a broad range of theatrical genres: drama, tragedy, romance, comedy and farce. They remain vibrant and relevant today as a testament of art's ability to persevere in the face of oppression.

Book Awkward Stages Plays about Growing Up Gay

Download or read book Awkward Stages Plays about Growing Up Gay written by John M. Clum and published by Cambria Press. This book was released on 2015-08-10 with total page 578 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The plays in this volume, written by men (some of whom are the most celebrated playwrights) who were in their late twenties and early thirties, affirm adolescents as subjects active in same-sex relationships. Sexual identity is important to the young men in their plays, in great part because they must define themselves against the prejudice and sanctions of family and social institutions. In some cases, the experiences dramatized in these plays are examples of the "gay pathos." Some boys, like Benjy in A. Rey Pamatmat's Edith Can Shoot Things and Hit Them, were severely punished by their parents for expressing their sexuality. Others, like Chris in Daniel Talbott's Slipping, are terrified of anyone, particularly his peers, discovering his sexual relationship with another boy. Dennis, in Michael Perlman's From White Plains, has never recovered from the anti-gay bullying he and his best friend endured in high school. At the same time, most of the plays in this book depict joyful expressions of gayness. Much of Edith Can Shoot Things and Hit Them is the story of two teenage boys discovering sex and love on a remote Midwestern farm despite the interventions of parents. On his twelfth birthday, Ricardo Bracho's Sissy discovers and celebrates his inner queen. Yet not all adolescents can feel that joy. Eli, in Slipping, connects sex and desire with cruelty, first suffered at the hands of the conflicted lover Chris, then projected onto the sweet boy with whom he becomes involved in Iowa, and finally inflicted upon himself. The young men in these plays are all unique characters. Affirmation of their sexuality in a time and places where homophobia is still a reality is only one problem each faces. Like many works about adolescence, these plays depict the blurry no man's land between childhood and adulthood. All of these plays have received powerful productions at theatres across America and demonstrate the vitality and variety of contemporary American drama. This is an important book for all collections not only in LGBT studies and theater studies, but also education and sociology because of how it deals with adolescent homosexuality and homophobia, as well as bullying. • Author : John M. Clum
  • Publisher :
  • Release : 2013
  • ISBN : 9781604978421
  • Pages : 596 pages

Download or read book Gay Drama Now written by John M. Clum and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page 596 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a collection of seven contemporary American plays (six of them by gay playwrights) that depict the lives of gay men in the years before gay liberation and in our own time. All of these plays have been successfully produced by major American theaters and all have received critical acclaim. The first three works in the collection-Robert O' Hara's Antebellum, Joseph and David Zellnik's Yank , and Jon Marans's The Temperamentals-demonstrate gay playwrights' impulse to share the history of oppression and liberation gay men have faced. The remaining four plays-Guillermo Reyes's Deporting the Divas, Stephen Karam's Sons of the Prophet, Neal Bell's Spatter Pattern and Jose Rivera's Pablo and Andrew at the Altar of Words-offer depictions of the ways in which gay men have and have not assimilated in the twenty-first century. These plays also deal with larger sociopolitical issues: racism, war, immigration, unemployment and same-sex marriage. They also dramatize experiences common to everyone: illness, grief, guilt, and familial and romantic love. As these seven plays dramatize a variety of personal and social issues, they also demonstrate a variety of dramatic styles, from realism to flamboyant gender-bending to musical theater. They offer a good introduction to the stylistic richness and variety of contemporary American theater. In addition to a general introduction, each play is preceded by a critical introduction. In most cases, the playwrights have also provided statements about their work. Gay Drama Now offers a sampling of the best of contemporary drama about the gay experience in America. Written by some of the most celebrated playwrights working today, from veteran playwrights like Jose Rivera and Neal Bell to younger writers like Stephen Karam and Robert O'Hara. It represents the work of African-American, Latino and white playwrights. This volume should appeal to readers interested in American drama, particularly drama of this century. It will also appeal to students of gay and lesbian studies.

Book Queer Shakespeare

Download or read book Queer Shakespeare written by Goran Stanivukovic and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2017-07-13 with total page 420 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Queer Shakespeare: Desire and Sexuality draws together 13 essays, which offer a major reassessment of the criticism of desire, body and sexuality in Shakespeare's drama and poetry. Bringing together some of the most prominent critics working at the intersection of Shakespeare criticism and queer theory, this collection demonstrates the vibrancy of queer Shakespeare studies. Taken together, these essays explore embodiment, desire, sexuality and gender as key objects of analyses, producing concepts and ideas that draw critical energy from focused studies of time, language and nature. The Afterword extends these inquiries by linking the Anthropocene and queer ecology with Shakespeare criticism. Works from Shakespeare's entire canon feature in essays which explore topics like glass, love, antitheatrical homophobia, size, narrative, sound, female same-sex desire and Petrarchism, weather, usury and sodomy, male femininity and male-to-female crossdressing, contagion, and antisocial procreation.

Book 40 Tall Tabloid Tales and 4 Super Short Stories

Download or read book 40 Tall Tabloid Tales and 4 Super Short Stories written by Scott Ware and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2005-09 with total page 98 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Do you like reading those hilarious tabloid "news" stories about Aliens, Bigfoot, dumb crooks, super-powered household pets, and "incredible but true" current event stories from tabloids? Do you also hate all the raunchy pictures, perverted stories, Hollywood gossip, and ads for implants, piercing and psychics? Me too. Instead of paying $3 to wade through all that garbage (that your kids will read also) to get 2 or 3 amusing stories an issue, why not get 40 funny, bite-size tales that can be consumed in a few minutes each? These are laughs you can share with family, friends, and co-workers. Pastor Pete, Sister Sally, and even your in-laws won't be embarrassed. The 4 short stories require 10-30 minutes per read. "A Real Life Superhero" is the inspirational account of a kind-hearted loser who always dreamed of being a superhero. Would people ever appreciate his life of good deeds? "Not Just a Cat" may be just a tad out there. The protagonist suffers a debilitating on-the-job back injury, which results in lying around the house, and taking pain pills complements of Workman's Compensation. After a few months, he thinks his cat is talking to him. All's well that ends well in this tale of temporary delusional hijacks. "Missy's Bear" is a refreshing (compared to my other stories) bedtime story I made up for my own daughters when they were young. A precocious little girl befriends a talking bear. There you have it folks. 44 original stories to keep you chuckling through the day.

Download or read book The Nance written by Douglas Carter Beane and published by Dramatists Play Service, Inc.. This book was released on 2016-05-16 with total page 69 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: THE STORY: In the 1930s, burlesque impresarios welcomed the hilarious comics and musical parodies of vaudeville to their decidedly lowbrow niche. A headliner called "the nance"—usually played by a straight man—was a stereotypically camp homosexual and master of comic double entendre. THE NANCE recreates the naughty, raucous world of burlesque's heyday and tells the backstage story of Chauncey Miles and his fellow performers. At a time when it was easy to play gay and dangerous to be gay, Chauncey's uproarious antics on the stage stand out in marked contrast to his offstage life.
